Ashley was our waitress, she was super helpful and friendly. The food was made from scratch we really enjoyed the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, fried okra and squash. My husband and the tossed salad instead of squash and it was very fresh. The pies looked amazing so we took a piece of chocolate cream & coconut cream pie to go. Cute 50's dinner inside , but outside looks like sh .. ! Great home cooking. I had fried catfish which was delicious and was serve in big bite sized chunks. Fried gizzards are exceptional. Soft and tender.. fried chicken is also very good. Unfortunately, they may not be available every day.. you get a selection of three sides with a good selection of vegetables. My wife loves the pickle beat. Small, local diner with big, delicious burgers! Driving through and wanted a small, hometown place for lunch. This fits the bill! It was spotless, and the service was great. The burgers were thick and juicy, the fries were good too. And that great-tasting generic store-brand ketchup. We shared a piece of chocolate pie. It was yummy! Was on my way home from Walmart in Madill, believe or not Tishomingo doesn't have a Walmart. I still haven't decided if that's a good thing or bad...I had expelled all of my energy at the grocery store so decided to pick up a few dinners for our Saturday or Sunday night, can't remember which. I ordered the all you can eat (fried chicken) plus the salad bar. It was really good and I'll definitely be back. The fried chicken breast were cooked to perfection and I know because I don't eat much or at all really, fried anything. I was delighted the chicken had very little grease which means it was fresh grease they cooked with and the cook knew his business. The sides were great, green beans and squash. The salad bar was fresh as well, I HATE SOGGY LETTUCE that's been wet and not dried properly which is usually what I deal with when purchasing the salad in a bag (they inevitably make me pick out the fresh lettuce pieces) not with the Country Kitchen, it was crisp, and fresh with anything you can imagine to top it off. I love sesame seeds and croutons on mine and there were plenty of both. Anyway, thanks for the fresh food, I appreciated everything just the way it's supposed to be when your looking for a good dinner that you don't have to cook...I'll be sending the hubs over to pick up dinner now that I know it's worth the trip. read more

Had a very strong late breakfast/early lunch (would not call it brunch per se, but it was in that time frame) at Country Kitchen on a Sunday. The place was steady but not packed when we arrived around 11. We were able to sit down as soon as we arrived. There were only 2 servers, so they were working hard. But, food got out in the appropriate amount of time and we did not have to wait long on drink refills or the check. This place is no frills, doesn't even have central heat and air. But, it is comfortable and serves good food, and that is really all you need from a restaurant, isn't it? I initially planned on getting breakfast but when I saw the lunch specials menu I called an audible. I went with the chicken fried steak, which comes with 3 sides for around $9 I think. i may be wrong on the price, but I know it was great value for the amount and quality of food you get. For my sides I went with mashed potatoes and gravy, okra, and potato salad. I also tried the pancakes and scrambled eggs off of my son's plate. The steak had slightly too much breading for my tastes, I would prefer a better steak to breading ratio. That said, the steak was fork tender and not greasy, which means it was cooked correctly. The gravy was a good consistency but needed some salt and pepper. The potatoes were not overly gummy but were good classic mashed potatoes. The okra was the winner for me, it was also prepared correctly and seasoned well. Not overcooked or greasy, this was a very solid version of fried okra. The potato salad was under-seasoned and while I would not say it was bad it was definitely the weakest part of my meal. The pancakes look traditional but they are a little denser than normal pancakes, which is a good thing. There is also something in the batter I cannot place, but it gave the pancakes more taste in that they actually tasted like something. Most pancakes are simply a vehicle to get syrup into your mouth, but these were good on their own. I am a waffle guy usually, but these were really good. I will absolutely get them again. This place does classic country food well, which is unfortunately become rarer and rarer. Very glad I stopped in and will do so again as soon as I am down that way. read more

Dinner was very mediocre, and service was slow. Never could get a refill on drinks. Buffet was not the "recommendation" it should have been.

I rolled into town on my way south and darned if the road wasn't blocked for their homecoming parade! It was past time to do a stretch so when I saw the open sign on this tiny place, I said "Self, let's stop!" I ordered the catfish dinner (and it came with 3 sides, not 2). Sorry I ate the side salad and a few bites of the other before I remembered to take a photo. When I bit into the hush puppy I said I need to stop and write a review! These are huge hush puppies but the best things are the grilled onions and jalapeño slices embedded therein. The cook came out and in conversation told me they were his personal recipe. They used to use prepared frozen but once he fixed some of his for the owner, that was the end of the others! I highly recommend this place when you come thru Madill. read more

Stopped by around 2pm a few weeks ago on a Saturday, not too busy which was good, however, it still took us a while to get our food. Fried jalapeños and pickles were really good! I ordered a country fried steak with a side of onion rings, mashed potatoes, and corn bread. Food was great but my Dr. Pepper, sadly, was very flat. We took our extended family to this place because we were in the area and decided to give it a try. Others came in after us and got their food, ate and left before we were even served. It took 1 hour and 15 min for our table to get served. The sliced brisket was nothing but fat with tiny bits of meat attached. The potato salad tasted horrible. The rolls could have rivaled Ellie Mae's. The only redeeming factor at all was the fried okra. Not one person at our table was satisfied with their meal. Not one person apologized for the wait time and only one person at our table got a drink refill. The wait staff hid out behind the counter. So sad to see a place operated like this. read more
