Be aware that the initial consultation to provide an estimate may cost $150 or more. This fee was not communicated to me in advance, and only came to my attention after I began receiving calls from the accounting department requesting payment. I had assumed (incorrectly) that the initial inspection was complimentary. The technicians who visited my home were professional, knowledgeable, and spent approximately 30 minutes taking measurements and inspecting the chimney cap. However, they left only a handwritten sheet with basic dimensions and no clear documentation of costs or next steps. The invoice was sent two days later from an unfamiliar email address that did not identify the company or the technicians, which added to the confusion. Finally, the companies accounting department reached out, leaving multiple voicemails to address payment due. When I called to address the charge, I expressed my concerns about the lack of upfront communication. The accounting representative was polite and apologetic, and I do believe the company values customer service, however, there was a clear shortfall in transparency regarding pricing. Given the unexpected inspection fee, as well as the high estimates for additional work and concerns about communication, I have decided to pursue services with a company that places a stronger emphasis on clear and upfront pricing. read more

Scheduling is easy, pricing is transparent, communication is outstanding. I was referred to Cougot's after smelling something foul in my chimney. When the technicians came out they weren't able to access it because of the way our chimney was built. They recommended a new liner and damper to remove the critter, keep future ones and rainwater out, and make future cleanings easier. As a new home owner I'm clueless, but my mom happened to be in town and said all of that seemed reasonable! They came out on two separate occasions due to the weather and were able to complete almost everything (they'll have to return in the spring to finish the mortar). I also asked them to clean my gutters while they were here. Both technicians were professional, wore masks without being asked, and removed their shoes when entering without being asked (if you have light colored carpets you know this is appreciated). They were able to make a few recommendations about our gutters that they noticed while they were cleaning them (nothing they can do, but things to call another company about). Thanks guys! read more

They came out to clean my chimney and they were very polite but then they broke off the GAS valve to the gas fireplace. They had to turn off the gas for the whole house until a Gas plumber could be sent out to fix the broken valve because they can't fix things like that. I was told by both the woman who runs their office and the general manager that they would refund me the $100. I have been waiting since 10.3.23 and I have left multiple messages but no one calls me back. Yes they cleaned my chimney but there unprofessional behavior after breaking the gas valve to my gas fireplace makes have warn people away. If a company tells they are going to refund you your money and then they don't and worst duck your phones calls when you try to resolve the issue then they are shady and should be avoided. read more

Asked for a quote on installing a pellet stove in September, earliest that they could come out for a quote was something like a month away, as they were very busy. In October, they came out, was told I'd get a quote after the weekend. No quote, for appx 3-4 weeks left repeated voicemails/sent emails just asking to either receive a quote or tell me that they were too busy to handle my job. Eventually in mid November received a highball and kind of half-thought-through quote on the job, which was not really realistic or considering any questions that I had asked when employees came to assess the job. Maybe I'm missing something in terms of how much it would really take to complete what I wanted, but I wouldn't know because a follow up email asking specific questions was met with no response. The thing is that the significant delay in the process (into the cold season when it's not a good time to start a project) has left me in a freezing house for another winter, when this could have been addressed before it became cold months ago if I would have just been told that they were too busy to handle my job. Not recommended. Probably good at what they do, but need to get things together in terms of customer service. read more

When we purchased our home in August of 2014 we had them out to do fireplace inspections (was done Nov 2014). We needed to move in Aug of 2015 and the buyer had them out to do another inspection. When they came through in Nov 2014 they inspected two chimneys and gave the all clear that there are no issues, except for some minor stuff. When they came back through Aug of 2015 for the buyer, they now stated that both Chimneys are have major gaps between the joints and two flu liners need to be added. One of the two Chimneys we NEVER used. The house is only 7 or so years old built by a very reputable high end builder in Richmond. When I called the owner to speak with him about this, he mentioned that when he did his video inspection he could see "orange" which is the terra-cotta and that means it has cracked and crumbled, according to him. But when he sends his report, pictures and outline, he fails to mention "orange" or anything to this effect. He only shows pictures that are massively blown up to misrepresent gaps. So with this information, we need to get a second opinion just to make sure. If they do in fact need to be replaced, its a must do to keep my family safe. So we get another Chimney Sweep company to come out. They do their video inspection and we watch the results on site when he is done. He sees NOTHING wrong on either. So now we have two conflicting reports, so we get a third. They again go through and video inspect both and find nothing of substance except it needs a cleaning, which we know about. In talking with our realtor and their agency on this (they are the largest in town) they begin to discover other "discrepancies" from this company when they are doing inspections, from what I am told, and they are going through their own internal process. This cost me approx $6,500 at closing as a credit due. STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THEM. read more

Work completed was external chimney repair and cap replacement. In the future may have some other work done and Cougot's would be top of the list. read more

I recently had a water leak due to failing mortar on my chimney. I asked around the neighborhood and got mixed reviews on Cougots but decided to call them anyway. I left a message and they were very prompt at calling me back and getting me on the schedule for an estimate rather quickly. I unfortunately was not able to be home the day they came to give the estimate and they left it for me in the mailbox. I was impressed with their estimate and called them the following day. I left a message telling them I wanted to get put on their schedule but had a couple questions regarding the estimate and asked them to please call me back. I waited 48 hours and then called and left a second message telling them I wanted to have the work done because I had an active water leak and would appreciate it if someone called me back. Well, needless to say, its been a week and I've never received a call back. Very poor customer service if you ask me. I was trying to give them my business but my guess is that they were just too busy to deal with my repair (which was only estimated at around $700) but still, that will be $700 not in their pocket because I've had to take my business elsewhere so I can get my water leak rectified. I understand people are busy with all the weather we've had lately, but the least they could have done was return my call and tell me they could no longer be of service. I should have listened to the neighbors that warned me about them. **edited in response to owners response - they did NOT try to contact me and if they did then they were calling the wrong number! And wait until SPRING when I have a MAJOR ACTIVE WATER LEAK bringing water into my home?! Certainly doesn't sound like a company trying to help someone. Shame on you. read more

Great customer service!!! I had a cap put on my chimney. Later that day I heard an animal scratching inside my chimney, presumably trapped by the cap. So I called Cougot right away. They sent someone out that day, who took the cap off, cleaned out my chimney, and made sure there were no animals inside. He did all this while being friendly, thorough, and informative. We had Cougot's come out the other day to inspect the chimneys of the house we are renting. The man (who's name I forgot I am terribly sorry) who came here was polite, professional, kind, and personable. When it comes to fireplaces, and chimneys, wood stoves etc. You can never be too careful! The man was super nice to our dog, and was careful with our carpet which is a very light color.
