The salesman Terry showed us options for various open log kits and price ranges. When I described our system to him, he recommended that I call a repair person to see if it was repairable for about 1/5 the cost of a new system. Although we haven't determined it our old system is repairable or not, I want to point out that Terry was not at all the typical high-pressure salesman and suggested what could be a substantial savings. Just thought I'd share our positive experience.

I had assumed (incorrectly) that the initial inspection was complimentary. The technicians who visited my home were professional, knowledgeable, and spent approximately 30 minutes taking measurements and inspecting the chimney cap. However, they left only a handwritten sheet with basic dimensions and no clear documentation of costs or next steps. The invoice was sent two days later from an unfamiliar email address that did not identify the company or the technicians, which added to the confusion. Finally, the companies accounting department reached out, leaving multiple voicemails to address payment due. When I called to address the charge, I expressed my concerns about the lack of upfront communication. The accounting representative was polite and apologetic, and I do believe the company values customer service, however, there was a clear shortfall in transparency regarding pricing. Given the unexpected inspection fee, as well as the high estimates for additional work and concerns about communication, I have decided to pursue services with a company that places a stronger emphasis on clear and upfront pricing.

The fireplace wasn't a necessity so I have let it sit for the past 3 years. I received a coupon in the mail for an inspection from this place. I called and had no trouble setting up an appointment. The appointment day came and the technician came out. I don't know much about gas fireplaces, we always had wood when I grew up. He inspected the fireplace and let me know all the things wrong with it, he also told me it was just decorative as it had no blower on it. He gave me an estimate to fix it that was reasonably priced. The tech was very friendly and very knowledgeable. I have chosen not to fix the fireplace solely on the fact that it is decorative and not really needed.

It did the same thing last…read moreyear, but since we were heading for a week of 90 degree plus weather, we decided to get it fixed. Eurotech had put in a furnaces for us in a rental property this winter, so we gave them a call. One of their guys showed up within an hour of his stated arrival time. He took the cover off of the outside unit and did some testing while I watched. Unfortunately, I needed to leave so the rest of his inspection was done without my spouse watching. His diagnosis was we needed a "switch" and a fan motor which was $800, but the unit was old and we should get a new unit for $4200. When we asked if he had anything in the $3000 range, he needed to check with his office and would get back to us in a day or two. When we didn't hear back, we did a little search on YouTube and saw that the "switch" he spoke of was a capacitor ($12 locally) and that the fan motor was $120 locally. It took me about 40 minutes to install the two items. The fan would then run whenever we turned on the unit. The bad part was the air from the vents was warm. We call company 2 the next morning. Guy comes out, listens to what happened, takes a look at the unit and says that the oil on the base is a pretty clear indication that "some how" all the freon has leaked out of the system. Maybe the loose valve "just happened" to start leaking when the Eurotech person left. Less than one hour later, valve is replaced, system charged with freon, and the house is nice and cool. Still no call back from Eurotech.
