My pup loves being here, I trust them and he's always happy going and coming. He has always come home worn out with happiness. When I first had him, I brought him to a different day care. When he started refusing to get out of the car, I started looking for somewhere else. He now LEAPS out of the car to get to the wonderful loving staff. I don't know what we would do without Cottonwood Kennels. We have had 3 dogs over the years and they have all gone to Cottonwood for daycare and boarding. Our first dog had extreme anxiety and Shannon worked with her one on one. The two dogs we have now love going. I cannot say enough about the staff and the owners. When I went to pick up my dog, the old man in charge yelled at me for being late. It was 5:58 and they close at 6. I literally don't think they could have been ruder in the 5 minutes I was There. Not to mention that they fed my dog the wrong food the whole time he was there, and he's on a strict diet because of stomach issues. My dog Rose absolutely LOVES cottonwood kennels. I think the owner and staff are wonderful and I never have to worry when on vacation as Rose is so well taken care of while she boards. We are so thankful for Cottonwood Kennels. My boyfriend and I have a strong dog that is a hit-or-a-miss with other dogs, can pull on her leash, and can get quite anxious at the kennel. She is an absolute sweetheart with a fun personality, aside from those things. In the past we had boarded her with our vet and I never felt very comfortable with her there, knowing it was smaller, more inclosed quarters, and while staff takes dogs to the dog park nearby, our alpha dog could not there, and we didn't trust she was getting enough exercise. After she received a UTI (her first at 7 years old; my gut told me they didn't take her out enough) and two kennel staff made snide remarks about her strength (seemingly annoyed with our dog) while we were on vacation last summer, we really felt we needed to find a kennel that we could trust would give our dog what she needs-- more physical space, longer walks, and more understanding. Fast forward to today and we've brought our animals (our cat as well) into Cottonwood Kennels on three different occassions and I can't say enough good things about the staff or the facilities. We love that our dog can have an indoor/outdoor kennel and it means so much to us to find people who appreciate our dog, even with her anxieties and strength. It is a little more expensive to board her here, but it's priceless to know she's being taken well care of, and it's *really* nice having that peace-of-mind that your animals are okay while out-of-town. read more

My pup Mason's favorite place away from home. I've boarded him several times and they always do an amazing job. He gets to have his own little vacation while I'm having my mine. I love how they have different sizes of playgroups and other options for dogs who may not want to be social. And since I'm the kind of dog mom who likes to be able to check up and see how his doing I like that there is a phone I can call and they give me an update on how his doing. I feel very confident when I decide to take a trip and I can't take my pup with me that I have a place like Cottonwood Kennels to take my Mason to. read more

Cottonwood has a great set up and the staff was great with our two dogs. However, they were not specific about drop-off/pick-up times and ended up way over charging us! I showed up half an hour after the (undisclosed) pick-up time, and paid dearly for it. Our two dogs were there less than 48 hours, but we were charged for 3 days totaling $300. Yikes. Never again Cottonwood kennels, unless you're planning on feeding them lobster! Service was fine, price was completely absurd. read more

If their goal is to insult owners and dogs then they did a FANTASTIC job! Took my rescued boxer/bull mastiff dog in for a week. He has a sweet temperment and has passed intermediate obdience training. She takes a look at him and says "oh, he's strong. To protect the other dogs, we won't allow him in the play group." She went on and said several things about aggressive behavior, so I assume she's thinking he's a pit bull. I said he wasn't a pit bull. They called back and said they won't allow a bull mastiff in the play group. I appreciate the fact that they are trying to protect the dogs, but to me, that's presuming a dog's behavior based on the reputation of the breed. I'd much rather them have an open mind and try it until the dog shows agressive behavior. In fact, I think I deserve that for the price they are charging. When I picked him up, they bring him out and I get to greet him for 5 seconds before the handler says "ok, we have dogs coming in so we need you to take him to the car." She follows me to the car and tells the lady bringing in a dog to "wait. you never know what can happen with a dog on a leash." Here's the irony, as I'm loading him in the car, she says "He is a big sweetheart." I felt completely distrusted and unwelcome. read more

We have an older dog with a fear-aggression issue, in that he bites people when he's afraid and he can't escape and his hips are so bad that he can't usually escape. As you can imagine, this makes boarding him extremely difficult. He doesn't like new places or new people, but he LOVES going to Cottonwood! His tail starts wagging when we turn down their driveway! Cottonwood takes fantastic care of him, making sure that he gets handled by the same people and putting him in the play group with smaller, slower dogs. When we pick him up again he's always happy and healthy, and we love the "report card" that tells us what he did during his stay. I highly recommend Cottonwood for those special pets, it's worth the extra money to know they're getting the type of care they need. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. We board our dog and we never had an update, photos on how he was doing. Then after two weeks we called to ask info about it and they candidly said that our dog was a couple of days that he wasn't eating, refusing the food. WTF they were waiting for to inform the owner...idiots. Now we picked him up and we just found out that he's bleeding from the butt, they didn't even notice that. We are taking him right now to our vet and if there is something wrong due to their negligence, I swear to God I'm going to sue them. They never give us a call to let us know about our dog but when it was time to pay they called twice in less than 5 minutes to get the money, right away. They also asked us to contact our vet and suggested to give my dog some drugs for anxiety, this is how they treat dogs, give them medicine so they don't bother. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Cottonwood is a very nice daycare and boarding facility in east-east Boulder near 75th St. In fact, it's actually a small farm with chickens, llamas and a peacock wandering around. In addition to canines, they take felines and also all sorts of smaller critters like birds, bunnies, ferrets and snakes (not all together!). Our lab mix Brady has boarded here and also daycare couple times a month. The many staff at this local business are really nice and it's a pretty big operation for a kennel - usually there are several dozen small dogs in the small dog daycare outdoor common area and also several dozen big dogs in the separate larger area. This is where Brady really enjoys wrestling and chasing like a puppy! When weather is nice enuff (this is most times, hey it's CO!), daycare dogs spend all day outside in the "play groups", in these clean astroturf areas, complete with play props and swimming pools and hoses, etc., supervised by staff. We've toured the facilities and the individual kennels for overnight boarders are nice and kept clean. When boarding, your dog has the option of joining the "play groups" up to 3 times a day, or just going on individual walks if your pet is older or less social. You can call in when your pet stays there, and they'll provide an update on how they're adjusting, and even let you know if your pet's on their "board" for bad stool or not, lol. When we pick him up from either daycare or boarding, usually they've had time to write a report card summary for Brady on how he played and who he played with! Definitely peace-of-mind, leaving our dog at Cottonwood! And here's the best part, after playing like a mad dog at daycare all day, the pup is too tired to play WITH ME! read more

I love these people! I was traveling to Colorado to meet with a few different breweries, with a few days of camping in between. I wanted the dog on the camping part, but not the brewery touring part, so on those days I left her with Cottonwood Kennels. They took excellent care of the pooch. I toured the facility and it was clean and all of the animals seemed very happy. It was a bit chaotic, but get a few dozen dogs in one room and of course it'll be chaotic. They write little grade cards for your dog each day, and i found out that my dog is a lovebug, super fabulous, and a splash monster! They're going on my fridge. They're that cute and i'm that much of a dork. I also noticed that there is a TON of staff around, and they're giving a lot of interaction to the animals. Made me feel a lot better about kenneling my dog for the first time. The best part of my experience? I had to add a day onto my trip due to a rescheduled meeting. They had no room for an extra dog, but after some groveling on my part, they found a place for my dog to stay! LIFESAVERS! I would highly recommend Cottonwood Kennels to anybody. read more

Another arrogant Boulder business that feels customers are blessed to be able to pay them money for the services. I thought the semi-valley girl who answered the phone (Kristine?) was condescending. She had an "as if!" attitude when I had the nerve to call about availability at the end of March. Also, their pricing is ridiculous. $40-$45 to overnight a dog? I guess they're trying to keep up with Camp Bow Wow's pricing. Too bad for them that Camp Bow Wow is worth it, as much as I hate to say it. read more

After trying two other doggie day cares I finally found the BEST one in Boulder. My dog has anxiety issues and they worked with her to help her feel comfortable. We have boarded pets here for 15 years! These people get 5 stars in our opinions. The animals have been treated beyond exceptionally well. They are more than accommodating. There is a scathing review of a person complaint about staff smoking and suing the owner. My advice: get a hold of yourself. I grew up on a farm and people smoke and chew tobacco. Although they are on the $$$ side. I would put my pet up for the night in no other place (unless she went to friends or family). We have taken her here no less than half a dozen times for overnight stays. (Sometimes 3 or 4 days at a time!) and we know she is in great hands. She returns home happy and exhausted! She sure has fun on those one-on-one nature walks! The staff is friendly and know her name when she comes. They have room for cats and dogs and can fill up quick. Which make me sad sometimes because many holidays fill up quick and we have to find another option for her. Hate that. I had a really wonderful experience with the whole staff at Cottonwood Kennels, and found the facilities a lot nicer than other daycares I have toured. The dogs get to play outside and it wasn't overcrowded. The people that work there seemed passionate about dogs and were very knowledgeable, kind and patient with me as I was worried to leave my young puppy without me! I got to watch her for a while in the play area to see how she interacted with other dogs which helped to ease my anxiety about leaving her. They were also very sweet and gentle with my dog. I moved to Boulder from out-of-state 6 months ago and was totally distraught that my Basset mix's separation anxiety came back with a vengeance. Just got back from a 10 day vacation, leaving our 2 dogs at their own vacation destination, Cottonwood Kennels. I can't say enough good things about Cottonwood. We have a very, very tough and rare LGD (livestock guardian dog) breed, a completely different subset of dog than your typical pet dog. LGD's are not driven by wanting to please their handlers/owners, so they have to be handled differently than your typical lab or golden. I was very nervous leaving them. They passed their trial stay, but I was still nervous. I can't say how happy I have been with the kennel and staff there. It was so refreshing, and rare, to see such a knowledgeable staff that understands that not all breeds are the same and even with tough, aloof breeds like ours, uses love and kindness and adapts to each individual dog. When we picked up the dogs, they were jumping on and loving the staff, a testament that they earned the trust and love of our dogs. If they can win over our dogs, you know they were good. I would not hesitate to leave any dog with this loving, capable staff. We are so relieved to find a place that we can now always trust and can schedule future vacations. read more

There is no denying that Cottonwood Kennels is located on a beautiful farm but they could up their game when it comes to service- some of their employees are miserable and mean... not two traits of a person I want to leave my dog with. Also, it often feels like all the dogs are crammed into their fenced pens.. I wish they could run around in the huge field on the property. read more

They have way too many dogs for the size of the play area. Don't be fooled by the huge field, the dogs don't go out there. They stay cooped up in the small pens. They get two stars because they do separate the dogs by size and they do have pools for hot days. read more

The staff have also been incredibly knowledgeable resources about training, grooming, and healthcare related referrals and concerns over the years. In particular, Keri's love for our older pup knows no bounds, and she has always gone above and beyond to address our questions and take care of our girls. We have been boarding our cat, Skye here since we moved to Boulder in Summer 2010. We love the friendliness of the staff and the facility. They used to seem to care about clients and pets and now have the attitude that they could care less if my pets board there. Their main emphasis is to make sure they get paid in full a month in advance. They sent me 3 text messages that I had to pay in full for spring break in March by February 15 or I would be dropped and they would take the next person off the wait list. I really like this place and more important, my dogs do too. I have a very young guy and a very old guy. The older one is still in great health, just hard of sight and hearing. Unlike other situations with a lot of uncertainty, he likes and anticipates going for dog play care here. The younger one is really well-socialized from the pack of dogs playing with (and correcting) him: he's more confident and less "wired for sound" since he's been going once a week. I appreciate this place a lot, and I appreciate their pricing, too. They have separate pricing for small and large dogs, progressive pricing (second dog from same household is less per day than first). They also offer "buy 9, get one free" punch cards which are a good value. And, I appreciate the funny report cards the boys get at the end of the day. According to them, the old boy is a "love bug" and the young pipsqueak is "super-fabulous." What's not to like about someone fawning over your perfect dog, right? read more

Cottonwood kennels is a great place for pets. Our pet Simba loves to go there and always has loads of fun. They have lots of open space where pets can play together during play time. Pets can also go on pasture walks or have one on one play sessions. People here are very attentive, caring and patient. In the end, we get these report cards which are so very cute!
