We showed up at the meeting location for a surf lesson on time and there was no one here. We had…read moregone to the shop before heading to the meeting site and checked in and the woman said you're all checked in and apparently never alerted anyone that they were checked in. After I called the surf shop to advise them that there was no instructor at the meeting location, I was told who we were supposed to have as an instructor apparently "had a mixup in his schedule" is what the young lady said when calling. This isn't the first time this has happened. When we did this last year same situation of a schedule mixup. The young gentleman at the shop where you pick up your wetsuits are very pleasant and helpful. I was later called by one of the managers to let me know that they were refunding for the full cost of the lesson and that we would still get our lesson. They said they were refunding to apologize for the inconvenience of waiting over 30 minutes past our lesson time for an instructor to arrive.

I went in the morning to buy wax and the guy and girl working there helped me out right away- Then I went back after my beach session the same day and they immediately recognized me with friendly faces, which made me feel less embarrassed about going in the store for the second time. I went in because I hated my cheap wooden skimboard that I got somewhere else and asked for their recommendations for a better one. I couldn't have been any happier because both were extremely helpful and informative. I'm a beginner and the guy especially took his time to explain the differences between boards, which ones were best, tips on skim boarding in general, etc. I really appreciate that kind of chill and nice vibe because most people just try to sell to newbies rather than engage in conversation about a common interest! He ended up going in the back to get me a really nice fiber glass one that he actually was going buy for himself, but let me have it. Thanks!!! Both workers have been skim boarding for a long time and they know what they're talking about! The girl also gave me more tips and recommended beaches for all skill levels for skim boarding. 5 stars for actually caring about a beginner like me and encouraging me to know this sport better! They also repair boards and help install traction pads. Definitely going back for the track pads once I get better and also when I feel like trying out surfing! (They do rentals and lessons, yes)

The cost was super inexpensive, and Joey my instructor was very informative. He wen't over pure basics to advanced knowledge of surfing technique. I also bought some schwag from the shop, and the prices are very reasonable. Typical surf shops you pay a premium for brand-name gear, but they offer great sales. By the end of my lesson and day I was up on the board, and there is no better feeling. Dominic, the friendly owner, took us 3 (total novices with 3 pretty distinctly differing ability levels) out, made us feel safe, gave us fantastic guidance, and taught us key skills that enabled us to have a great experience. This was summer 2020, mid-pandemic time, and we felt safe as far as protocols and were very grateful we could still rent the boards and enjoy a lesson. We took the 2-hr option and found it perfect for our novice needs. There was nothing I was looking for that I didn't find there and nothing I'd have changed about the experience. You need to save up for one of their boards but they totally seem worth it. Plus, some of their skateboards are from an eco-friendly company that plants 1 tree for every certain number of boards sold. The employees were also really chill about me having my service dog and didn't really ask any questions (they just said "hello" to him and told me how cute he was).
