I've been coming here for years (close to 5 years) and have done so for two reasons;
(1) The proximity. It is the closest barbershop to my home only 0.6 miles away. I can walk or bike there and do, frequently.
(2) Straight razor shaves. It's hard to find a barber that is licensed to do straight razor shaves anymore.
However, I think I might be looking for a new barber. I don't come here for the customer service. Honestly, their customer service was never that great to begin with. I would say it's ok. The ladies are always up for a chat while they cut your hair, but is that what passes for great customer service? The shop has little to no management. There's a whiteboard to write your name on so that they can keep track of who's next, but if you miss that part you're SOL. Also, there's no cash register and you get no receipt and probably no change. They only recently started accepting debit and credit cards because the bar next door that had an ATM went out of business (they used to force you to use the ATM if you had no cash). The haircuts themselves are ok, nothing special, and some times you can come out having missed a spot or having uneven sides. Despite all of this I came back at least once a month for five years. Their haircuts used to only cost $16 but they recently increased it to $18 (a 12.5% increase). Fine. I still tip, always have, and always will. I believe in tipping your bar tenders and barbers generously, especially when you frequent the establishment pretty often. I always made it a point to tip 20%. But, I guess tips aren't appreciated anymore as they have never remembered my name nor the type of haircut I get, even though it has not changed the entire time I've been a patron. Also, I hate their schedule. Most people work all week, and some on Saturdays. I do. They are closed Sunday's and Mondays (the only times I have a chance to make it to their shop before it closes) and it closes at 3 PM on Saturdays. 3:00 PM! This is what caused me to finally decide to make a change. I rushed to their shop to try to squeeze in a haircut before 3:00 and I'm told they're closed. No one remembered me or the fact that, 'hey this guy is a regular and has tipped pretty well for years. Let's see what we can do.' Granted, my fault for not coming in at 2:30 or 2:00 or something ridiculous like that for someone who has to work Tuesday to Saturday. But, that finally showed me how little they care about customer service and how little they really appreciated my consistent tips and patronage. It's ok, though. They probably won't even notice I've stopped coming since they couldn't remember anything else about me despite multiple long conversations with each one of their barbers. read more
