I've been here a few times before over the past few years, but will not be coming back.
I called last week a day in advance to make a mid-day appointment so that I could come in at a specific time and not have to wait around for too long.
I would have been fine waiting 5 or even 10 minutes, but waiting 20 minutes when you arrive before your appointment is unacceptable. The guy that was supposed to cut my hair decided that it would be okay if he squeezed another guy in during my allotted time slot. I understand that you want to make more money and cut more hair, but please don't do so at the expense of my time!
I ended up waiting to get my hair cut 20 minutes past my scheduled time and had to come back towards the end of the day due to my busy schedule.
When I get there the second time, the guy that was supposed to cut my hair tells me that he only takes cash; it was pretty frustrating because I noticed that they had an ipad and I assumed that they were using the Square app. I asked why they had an ipad at the front counter if they were only taking cash and the barber had no good response for me.
I get that you don't want a paper trail, but at least put a sign up that says "CASH ONLY" or something to avoid confusion.
Overall, the head barber was polite, but no one there is professional; the barbers pretty much ignored me while I was there and were talking among each other about personal matters.
I work in a separate industry, but I like to engage with my clients because I feel like if they're paying me for a service, then I should treat them with respect and make them feel comfortable; well that's not how the Barber's Garage treats their clientele; they will ignore you and talk about what's happening on each other's Snapchat feeds instead.
They have an attitude that you're replaceable because they have so many people coming in; I could go to Supercuts or Great Clips and be treated better than they treated me. The funny thing is that they probably only have so many people coming in because of where they're located and not because of the quality of the service that they offer.
The haircut itself was a 5.5/10. The barber didn't listen and cut too much off the top and he messed up the sides. Overall, he was not very skilled and took 30 minutes to do a haircut that could have easily taken a seasoned barber 15 minutes to do.
When I paid the barber, he charged me $23 and when I gave him $30, he asked if I wanted any change back. My problem with this is that I understand that you want a tip, but please let me make that decision and don't pressure me to tip you. Instead of asking if I want any change back, give me my change back and let me decide if or how I want to tip you. Also, charging $23 for a haircut is a little too much considering the quality of the haircuts that they're offering. I could have gotten the same haircut for $18-19 anywhere else.
I will not be coming back here again and would not recommend this place to anyone.
My recommendations for improvement are:
1- Keep your appointments and respect the time of your clientele; having a trend of making people wait for 20+ minutes on Yelp shows that you are not managing your time properly.
2- Implement a standardized system of receiving payments so that there isn't any confusion among how your clientele could pay.
3- Talk less about personal matters while you're at work because I'm not paying you to hear about your personal life (and be more professional).
4- Engage with your clients and make it seem like you care about them.
5- Don't always expect a tip because you might not always deserve one. read more
