This is not my favorite Costco location, however, I appreciate its convenience in proximity to others. Just fyi, if you aren't already aware, the parking is a daily outdoor madhouse. The lines are consistently long, but they usually move quickly. I prefed the self-checkout lane if I am pressed for time. The pharmacy counter is helpful if you ever have questions or concerns about a product in that area. The store is well stocked and organized, although it can sometimes feel likd a circus. read more

First of all, this Costco location doesn't sell beer, wine or liquor. That's due to outdated, protectionist, anti-consumer New Jersey State law. (While it's understandable that the owners of small liquor stores would worry about their businesses, a look at California shows that independent alcohol retailers still thrive regardless of competition.) Otherwise, this Costco offers all the benefits of any other location, a great variety of tasting samples and occasionally unexpected surprise discounts, at least if you haven't looked at their most recent circular. Of course, some values are better than others, so it still pays to do your homework around such issues as cost-per-unit calculations. (Yes, I am a nerd.) The staff has been pleasant when approached politely with an issue, and I've always had my concerns addressed in a timely manner. (Remember, they're people, too!) My one minor gripe is that the pizza department hasn't answered the phone when I've tried to call in an order, but I also recognize that they're extra busy and likely understaffed. Still, my kids love the pizza, and it's such a good price that the wait ends up being a small inconvenience. Weekends tend to be crowded, but the best time to visit is during the week, especially right before closing, as there are fewer people.While the cashier service is generally fine and I've never encountered any issues, I can't say the same for the food service--it's quite disappointing. I went to this location for the first time about 2 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised that they have more stuff available than the Edison location and the nice Spanish lady working by the Ladies coats was beyond helpful when I asked her if there was a Vince Camuto coat in size S cuz I didn't see any on display, but she came around and checked in the boxes below the table and sure enough there was size S and so I bought it in 2 colors. Seven years ago I paid around $5000 for Starkey hearing aids. I've been happy with them, but this time I hoped to pay a lot less considering the advancements and competition in this industry. Thankfully, the Hearing Center is in the back of the store away from the mayhem. I had already had my hearing checked by a doctor and an audiologist report showing my hearing in both ears. I think they can do this part at Costco. Chelsie reviewed my priorities I.e. restaurants, movies, large venues, etc. She recommended behind the ear Rexton hearing aids. Chelsea took plenty of time to evaluate my hearing and recommended Rexton. We wound up trying both Rexton and also Jabra hearing aids, but I heard best with Rexton. It's one week later and I'm already wearing my new hearing aids. They have Bluetooth and all the bells and whistles. Ii whad a great experience: the price was about $1500, they come with a generous six-month money-back guarantee if I don't like them for any reason, plus they will replace one or both if lost! Unheard of!! So, I'm very happy with their service, price and product. This Costco is just ok. It has more than most Costco's. There are some inconsistencies with employees. I do exchanges here often and sometimes they refuse to give a store credit so that I can go buy the correct item and sometimes they hand it over no problem. Everything I purchase there is the same method so it depends on who is helping with the return. Also, yesterday (a Saturday) an employee,I guess was shopping off the clock, (I knew it was an employee because she has helped me with returns before). She didn't wait in the final line to have her receipt checked. She cut to the front and shoved her receipt into the employees face that was checking. I don't care if you work there, that is cutting the line, she triggered many customers to complain and even a customer to threaten violence against her. I have worked at stores in the past and NO employees ever got line cutting privileges, If you are shopping you wait in line like everyone else. My feedback for Costco is to make sure your employees don't cut lines. They move pretty fast anyway. That was just rude. read more

This is the closest Costco to me since I've begun going to the warehouse giant a little more regularly because of deals to be had and samples. The employees are nice and if you manage catch one running around, they're generally ok with helping you out and you'll need it. By design these stores want you roll your cart up and down the aisles wasting time. The free samples are always a draw but It seems this Costco has some things others don't notably alcohol. Why? On the upside this Costco has gas, but you know what but so does the Costco with Alcohol. So it's safe to say this Costco is lacking. My biggest problem with this Costco is the parking. This can easily be solved by simply just not going here on a weekend, but man it's a hassle. Not simply finding a parking spot but getting in and out of the lot is annoying since the route 22 Traffic builds up slowing down the flow of people coming and going. Surprised and outraged at what has transpired with Costco Wholesale at this location and with customer service. On 2/8/20 there was a King Casper Mattress on the Costco website advertised for $639.99, we tried to order it but was unsuccessful. On 2/9/20 we went to the Union, NJ location and purchased the mattress. While at the check out the mattress rang up full price. We asked to speak to a manager, the uninterested manager told us to call customer service and there was nothing she could do. I did pull up the online price and showed her. We thanked her and left. On 2/10/20 I tried to order the mattress online figuring I could bring back the more expensive one and save $160.00. With the product still in my cart at the sale price, the system would not let me check out. I called customer service to tell them what transpired starting with the experience on 2/8 at the warehouse. I emailed the CSR a screen shot of what was in my cart and how it showed the sale price. Mind you, the sale runs from 2/8-2/10. The CSR kept saying, "it's while supplies last". On 2/10/20 the online mattress price reflected the same price as the store but my cart showed differently, it showed the sale price. To sum it up, after being on the phone for 2+ hours with the CSR, Costco refused to do anything. They would not honor the online price, they would not let me order the mattress for the sale price that clearly said it ran from 2/8 -2/10/20. For me, this is false advertising! How do you offer a two day sale, be out of stock at the end of day one then it's in stock on day two but you can't purchase it at the sale price because Costco jacked the price up. There is something seriously wrong with this process. I don't know about anyone else but I work very hard for my money and $160 is a lot of money to me. Feels like most Costco's with about the same layout and all the same items. The cashiers are laid out the front and the food court where you can pick up pizza or hot dog for cheap. All on the back you have the bakery the meat and the fresh rotisserie chicken. Yes they have a mini door for return items, interestingly enough. Yes, you get a deal at the cost of lots of pushy people and lines, was cut twice while in line... I'm not sure who they had to do parking lots but it's just as bad here as anywhere else that has a Costco. I've only been to a couple with worse but this is hasn't been the best terms of layout. Traffic is pretty slow and tends to clog a lot while people are loading up their vehicles and waiting for spots. There needs to be more entrances and exits. read more

I have no idea why I still come here. I guess because it's conveniently lies between my work and my home but other than that it is a terrible experience. There's rotting roadkill on my drive home from work too but I avoid that. I probably should do the same with this place. Originally I thought every Costco was like this one until I went to other ones in New Jersey. The new one on route 22 in Greenbrook is the model that this Costco should emulate. Why do I have to wait online for 30 minutes here? How about opening one of the other six unopened checkouts? Why does it take me 20 minutes to get a smoothie for my kids on the snack line at 3:30 PM on a weekday? Seriously. Don't even get me started about the parking lot. It's like the Wild West here. There are people driving speeding cars going the wrong way and I am not certain how pedestrians are not killed here. They need to do something to increase pedestrian safety here. They do give out a lot of free samples which is a nice touch. However, the store is still very hard to navigate. Items are moved to different aisles. This is part of the game that Costco of Union plays. The item you wanted was in this aisle last week but ha ha we moved it to another aisle this week. Now go & find it. I think the only reason they keep the store as it is, is to make the other Costco stores look so good. Here's what happened (Friday July 5th) I went to Costco in Union to purchase the folding picnic tables . There was only 1 in the box on floor and the sample one they used for display. I spoke face to face with a supervisor named Stephanie ... She informed me that there was 5 but they were up high and I would have to come back tomorrow at 9:30am to pick them up . Went to the Supervisor location . Spoke with a Mr. Paul.. They're not aware of any phone call from Stephanie and they said they would've put 5 to the side for me. Always a problem at checkout time, one person yelling at you to "move it on down!", while they make you stand in the line they put you in, even when you see a shorter line. One useless person walks around asking, "so what type of membership have you got?' If you see lines are backed up let that person get on a register or help with packing. Tire department needs improving. I've come here twice for tire service. First time was for a tire rotation. My car specifies 35 psi in the front and 42 psi in the rear. Tire department simply moved the fronts to the back and vice versa without bothering to adjust the psi. Second time I got tires installed. They left all tires at less than 35 psi even after I pointed out that their form had a much lower psi and they told me they would go off of what's listed on the door jamb. Oh yeah, they didn't even bother calling me when the tires were installed. I also generally dislike this location, but it is conveniently located. read more

I like this store. I have been going there for years. Recently, hours of the business changed due to pandemic (they are closing early like 6 pm) and lines outside trying to get into the store (usually takes about 20 minutes since they are letting a group of people in slowly). But, once inside its very well organized. I like going there in the morning where most of the stuff is still available, I can just grab what I need. I usually pick up roastery chicken as well, they are priced very reasonably and tasty. Since there are numbers of cashiers and they are controlling the traffic, I can pretty much walk to the cashier without any wait when checking out. One star because zero stars is not an option. I had an appointment, made months in advance, for the hearing aid center for a check up on my hearing aids. I live over an hour away. They left a voicemail yesterday confirming my appointment. I drove out here, fought Union Co traffic, dealt with the nightmare that is the Union Costco parking lot, fought crowds just to get inside the store, and the hearing aid center is closed on Saturdays. If they changed their schedule due to staffing, I understand, but to not call customers who had appointments to let them know is horrible customer service. I have been going to Costco located at 1055 Hudson Street, Union, NJ 07083 for years, but a recent experience made me look for alternatives. On Dec 14, 2019, at 11:44AM, I ordered a soda cup for my 8 year old son from the automated order machine by the food court window. After that, my son and I stood in line to wait for our turn to pick up the cup. When it's our turn at the cashier, the cashier said we needed to go to another cashier who's on the other side of the counter, fulfilling orders. I was a little surprised when the cashier said that, because the pile of cups were right by her side. She could just grab one and give to us. But I thought they might have their own rules, so we moved to the other side. In the next 10 minutes, despite we were the only ones standing there most of the time, the Costco employee who fills the order never asked what we were waiting for. But some times when other people approached the counter, she would ask what they needed and helped them. At first, I thought other people were ahead of us in the order queue, so we waited patiently for almost 10 minutes. That's when I noticed even people who placed order from the first cashier later than we did were given the ordered food, yet we were still waiting for a cup, which didn't need any additional processing or handling. So I asked the person who filled the order "we've been waiting for 10 minutes now for a cup, when is it going to be our turn?". She said "I called long time ago, no one answered", which is a lie because we were always by the counter, never heard her calling. When I said "we never heard you calling", she shot back "stop yelling at me!". I was afraid of making my third scared, so I said calmly to her "can we just get the cup?". She just kept yelling "stop yelling at me!" at least three times, before she handed a cup to my son. During the 10 minutes or so waiting, I noticed she would only ask people who have similar skin colors. That explains at least partially why we were ignored for 10 minutes there. I am disappointed that though Costco as a good company, who takes care its employees well, its employees are not trained enough to treat its customers in a professional way. It might be the person who filled the order was racially biased, it might be she lacked the diversity training from the company, or it might be Costco never had any program training its employee. In either case, I am very disappointed, and I will start looking for alternatives to your store. Having said that, I still hope Costco can improve so at least other people can benefit. I have been to many different Costco's in a number of states and have never had a problem with any of the warehouses. The Costco in Union, NJ,however, was very disappointing. I bought a rotisserie chicken - they are great for $5 and a quick meal. So I get home and reheat in the oven with some stuffing mix. Upon cutting it open the chicken looks horrible- like it was sick. I had to throw it all away. My brother had warned me about this Costco and I agree with him now - stay away! Friday, June 22, at 2pm came to get my tires rebalanced and installed by Costco Tire Shop located in 1055 Hudson St. Union, NJ. Even though it took 2.5 hours to perform the work, mind you I was there with three kids and one of them is a newborn, I didn't complain as it needed to be done, we were planning to go on a trip to Toronto, Ontario a week from then. After speaking to Robert Bien about the work done and receiving a receipt along with recommendations, I and the kids were on our way. Two days later, Monday, June 25, we went to the beach in Long Branch, which is 34 miles away from my home in Rahway. On the way there I felt the vibration, however, that was expected as per Robert as my rear right rim was a bit bent. On the way back, approximately at 8pm, on HWY 1, I felt a different vibration coming from the front and in my steering wheel and minutes later, just before I could do anything, I felt the vehicle dropping to the ground, and left front wheel bouncing off onto the southbound, over the fence, and off the bridge. I was going at 45 MPH, three kids in the back seat, 10, 6 and newborn. The vehicle was towed by AAA back to Costco, silly me thought they would take care of the tow bill. The vehicle stayed there for three days and then Costco brought it back to me saying that they installed the spare and its driveable. Well, they forgot to mention that driveable means that it drives, not that its not safe to drive. I'm glad that I managed to pull over and no one was hurt physically. Unfortunately, my oldest witnessed the whole accident and is in a state of shock, I still can't convince her to get into any vehicle. Having years of experience in the automotive industry (I was a service advisor for many years), I know that such incident could not have happened if all the wheels were tightened properly. What really upsets me is that nothing can be done as per many attorneys that I've spoken to since all are alive and physically not hurt. I was offered to have myself and my kids treated at a rehab facility and then even maybe have some surgery done so that we would have a case and then file a claim against Costco. I refused. Costco manager did contact me and I did fill out an incident report. He did mention there is a video somewhere, that shows their tech performing installation of the tires as per manual, however I was never shown the video. Now, let me tell you the real consequences, even though no one was hurt, get into my shoes just for the time of you reading this. The vehicle is damaged and can't be fixed/used safely, it hit the ground so hard, that the skirt, fender, healthshield as well as the muffler, bearing, rotors and who knows what else got damaged. Tire plus the rims, nuts are gone. Since it was a 2007 Toyota Matrix, insurance found the car not worth fixing, thus it was scrapped. CAN I GET ANOTHER VEHICLE that is safe to driver for a $1000? NO, I CAN'T! Can I get reimbursed for my daughters psychological trauma? NO, I CAN'T. DID I GET reimbursed by Costco for the Towing? NO, I DIDN'T I live in Rahway, NJ that means that I'm 3.3 miles away from Wholefoods that I do 30% of my shopping and 13 miles away from Costco, where I do the rest 70% of my grocery shopping on weekly basis. The closest grocery store around is 2.2 miles away.... which is an hour walking. I used our car for grocery shopping, for getting around... for traveling, etc... I'm a single mother of three kids and once again, one of them is a newborn, thus I'm not able to perform all the activities above anymore. I"m disabled! I can't even buy milk for us, I can only use online shopping which is costing me an arm and a leg. I can't take my kids to the beach, I can't take them to the pool or zoo, I can't do many things planned this summer. I can't go grocery shopping, we can't go see our family doctor since she is located in Brooklyn and it takes 2 hours to get there by train and subway, plus all the cost of the train tickets. I had to cancel my trip all the planned activities in Toronto, Canada. We actually had to reschedule and we are traveling by bus now as the only other option available. I had to get my dog into boarding as the bus can't take it. So, not only I'm out of the vehicle, and I can't afford to buy another one. I have to change my whole lifestyle, my LIFE just because Costco didn't install my tires properly and because I have integrity and won't go through the whole rehab BS, as advised by lawyers. I feel mistreated, abused, lied to, cheated on, devastated, helpless, depressed and hopeless... how would you feel if you couldn't provide food for your kids because some big, important corporation made a mistake but didn't do anything about it. So, to sum it all up, for 22 dollars including tax, my tires were re-balanced and installed just to fly off the vehicle 50 miles later while driving on the hwy with three little kids in the vehicle, leaving me without a car read more

I have yet to find a Costco that is near West Orange (aside from the East Hanover branch), so this Union branch is my go-to. The prices are great, granted you buy in bulk for certain items. Pros: A lot of items that the West Coast stores take off the shelf after a month are regular items here, such as lobster bisque and chocolate truffles. If you're coming from a different state or different place in general, you'll be glad to know that the common Kirkland products are here, everything from the Angus burger patties to the value packs of condiments and the clothes/jackets. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and not beat up, at least the ones I was browsing through. The raw meat section was stocked well; the meats had a nice bright red color. There's plenty of parking spaces (if you're willing to walk a little bit). Inside the store, people that work here are very friendly. Cons: The raw meat section does not have certain cuts of meat that I need; I did not see any kalbi ribs, tri tip, or strip steaks. They also need to stock up on their t-bones as I was not able to buy the amount I needed. As for their fruit selection, while they were fresh, the selection and origin aren't that great. The California fruits, especially those from the Central Valley, were sweet and had a nice color to them. Unfortunately, many of the fruits from Miami were sour, such as the pack of blueberries that I bought in particular. They weren't moldy but just too sour. The 25ct or 30ct rolls in the big plastic bags were already a couple of days old but were still being sold. The hot food area is odd. If you order from the cash registers, you still have to take the receipt to the cashier in the hot food area to put in your order. What's the point of ordering from the main cash registers if the cashiers can't submit your order in the first place? You might as well just line up anyway. Lastly, the location blows. It borders 22-E. You might as well make a left on Chestnut, then a left on Caldwell, then all the way up to 82/Morris to get yourself out of that mess. read more

In the past 3 months, I've had problems with refrigerated items. I opened a container of ricotta cheese 3 weeks before the expiration date and it had already gone rancid. Yesterday, I purchased a container of cilantro lime shrimp. Again, funky. I live a few miles from the store and keep my refrigerator at its coldest setting, so I'm sure that the food stays cold. I've noticed too that when I buy a container of Earthbound Farm spring salad, it goes bad quickly. When I purchase it from Shoprite this doesn't happen. Costco Wholesale - Almond butter! - Wholesale Stores Near Me - Union, New Jersey

I am a true costco fan in every way. Love the gas station, the stores, majority of the stores are a pretty big and they just seem to flow harmoniously all on their own. Arriving at costco and trying to get gas at this location was somewhat a complicated manuever, the gas station is all the way on the back of the store, passed the tire parking/ entrance area. Although service at the gas station was quick for a sunday afternoon. Going back to the front of the store was a challenge as i found a lot of shopping carts taking up parking spots and that made it difficult to avoid a parking spot in which my car wont get dented from either passenger or drivers side. Stepping into the store, i went straight to the watch display and they had a very limited selection. Most costco stores jave rolex, cartier, omega among the watches at display, of course here at this location they had none of those brands. So, moving on to the main stream area my experience was a average. I did shop and found some good bargains on mens sports wear, pants and shorts. I did not see a liquor store within the store. At my favorite location in Edison, they have the best wine, spirits and beer program and the liquor store is located within the warehouse. So, yes i was dissapointed as i was looking to load up my wine cabinet. Overall, parking and lack of a liquor store will not bring me back to this location. I guess the Edison location can spoil costco members. In case you wonder, the Edison location had a huge parking lot, wine and spirit available to costco members along with the kirkland brand of spirits!! Plus there is a super Wal-Mart store next door. I like this Costco over the other Costco in NNJ. I come here during lunch time to avoid the crowds. The people/customer is nicer here. The self checkout is a nice touch. Too bad most people are too dumb to use it. read more

I know it Costco policy when you apply fir a membership the 2 people lives in the same house !!! But why I had 2 different membership and we both showed our driver's license which states your address it was never a problem before they gave it to me no questions asked ! Now I am on my 3rd membership called the day before to see what was the Procedure that I had to follow with my sister-in-law was adding me onto her membership they specifically told me to bring ID and they were gladly put me on her membership and I also will be taking a picture to get my own card that was fine go there the next day I had my brace on my name to go there to go back-and-forth with the manager who then tells me it's always been Costco policy that the members had to live in the same house so I was trying to explain to her in a nice simple tone very nice voice if you look at my previous memberships you say I had one with my girlfriend who lives in a different house so I had one with my niece who share the same last name who lived in a different household and now I'm here with my sister-in-law who we share the same name and we live five minutes apart now it's a problem now I can't be added on to her membership when I called corporate the lady that spoke to me was not very nice she wanted to tell me how long she has worked for Costco's and wanted to tell me their policy which I understand the policy but I was trying to explain to them this is my third membership and he was ready to put my niece on my membership this time and I said in front of a manager she doesn't even live with me she lives at a different address how is this possible I've been going back-and-forth cannot speak to the corporate anymore because they do not have any customer service skills I went back-and-forth with about three people or to get turned back around for me to call the store and talk to the case head manager there and then he can help me I went and I paid my $63 for the membership I should have went to BJ's way you get treated with respect and people do not talk down to you at all this is unacceptable and I probably would not be going back there so that particular Costco's in Union will have to drive miles away to go with his better service and unfortunately people who come to work there will have common sense and it will not talk down to people like they are children I am very very disappointed in Costco's I'm very disappointed and they woke us I'm very disappointment in management that's a shame I have to drive miles out of my neighborhood to go all the way out to a neighborhood to get treated with respect this is unacceptable read more
