Madelinetosh tosh merino light in Dubrovnik and Jaded Dreams
    Katie C.

What a perfectly lovely yarn store! I stopped in for the first time on a Friday afternoon with a grumpy child in tow. Despite this inauspicious beginning, both staff were wonderfully sympathetic and kind. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and checked on again after I'd had a chance to look around. Said child sulked on the window seat for a while making complaining noises and then miraculously decided to come around. So instead having to rush shop and get out, I got to admire and pet a whole slew of sumptuous skeins. The selection here is top notch--Brooklyn Tweed, Madelinetosh, Malabrigo, Anzula, and many more. I ended up with 3 skeins of Hikoo for a baby sweater and 2 skeins of tosh merino light just because. Each base I looked at was well stocked with a wide variety of colors. Prices are in line with what good yarn costs and I appreciated the large tables to sit around and lay stuff out on. And this might sound random but the lighting was just right for comparing colors and taking a few quick stash photos for Ravelry. Truly a pleasant and welcoming experience all around. On the car ride home, the kid said that it was the nicest yarn store he'd ever been to (and trust me, I've dragged him to plenty) so it's got the seal of approval from both a knitter and a 7 year old boy. I'll be back!

Nice, friendly yarn shop in downtown Summit. Madelintosh, Brooklyn tweed, cascade and many others. Limited needlepoint section, too.

It's a real community spot. The yarn selection ranges from standard go-tos like Berroco and Plymouth, to lovely stuff from Malabrigo and Juniper Moon Farm, to indie hand-dyes. The trend seems to be toward fashion colors and styles. I'm not exactly a fashionista myself, and I still find it easy to leave with creative choices. Especially because everyone there has been so willing to help me discover something I can't wait to knit or crochet up. Right now it's a super yummy pima cotton dk yarn I'm using for a shawl, and next up I have a cozy soft 100% recycled yarn for a cardigan. (And while prices at some LYSs can get scary sometimes, they seem to have really reasonable pricing.) PS: Parking in Union can be tough, but if the adjacent smaller lots are full, there's also a big municipal lot behind the Dollar Tree. (You can walk through for a shortcut! Buy yourself a soda!)

They helped me choose a project and went out of their way to order two colors for me. Definitely a revisit for me when i'm in the area!!

I am very happy I did! The Blue Purl is a beautiful shop. It looks like you're hanging out in someone's beautiful den (who just happens to LOVE knitting with TONS of yarn on shelves). Here's the brilliant part: The Blue Purl has several preset kits you can buy as gifts. Each one includes all the yarn you will need with a card or paper inside with color photos showing you what the end product will look like. This was *perfect*! I wound up finding a set and it made for a super easy purchase. One more fun thing: the shop owners will also wind the yarn for you at no additional cost. This is probably old hat for knitters but for me this was a very cool thing to witness so I had some fun too! I highly recommend The Blue Purl if you need gifts for a knitter or need supplies for yourself.

The selection of yarn is much more diverse and colorful, but still on the more expensive side. I'm okay with paying for good quality fiber, especially when this store stocks indie dyers from across the country that literally no other stores in NJ carry. The staff is so friendly and beyond helpful with picking colors and yarn for projects. The only reason this review doesn't get 5 stars is because of a harassing message someone associated with the store sent me back in February regarding my first review - she told me I was a liar and that I should go buy acrylic yarn to rub on my clients. After that she found my business page and left a 1 star review with some pretty nasty remarks about myself and my office that I had to have removed, as she has never been a client of mine. It's too bad too, because I really like the store and this entire interaction has made me Re-think where I spend my hard earned money. I wish that woman hadn't crossed the line, professionally speaking. Otherwise I'd have forgotten all about this in time and been a happy and loyal customer. You missed a golden opportunity to turn this entire situation around...
