We went on the NJ Wool Walk to this store it's alot of fun to do a Wool Walk but this store was not only poorly laid out with very little yarn but the staff was absolutely the most unfriendly nasty group we have ever run into. I'm only giving one star because I can't give it zero. I was told my service dog could not enter the store. If I was to order yarn and arrive for a pick up, he would not be allowed in. I informed the store this is again the ADA (Under the ADA, State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go.) The woman told me she knows nothing about that but he can't come in. I will shop somewhere else. I respectfully disagree with the owners response. I understand the store is closed due to Covid. Unfortunately the conversation did not go as you are reporting. I was specifically told that my dog was not allowed in the store. There was no mention of me not entering, only that my dog could not. I don't post a lot of reviews, but am, more in response to the review of this shop earlier today, from AnneD, which I find perplexing, and basically hard to believe. I'll drive over three hours from Boston to shop here. The yarn selection is phenomenal, as is the customer service. The owner Karen is an avid supporter of independent dyers, crafts people and small women owned businesses in general- just like hers. I was just at her grand re-opening two weeks ago and the beautiful store was loaded with yarns from many dyers , a beautiful assortment of accessories, great trunk shows, and the place was packed with very happy customers and a lot of staff to help. Everyone was having a great time- like one always does when they shop here. All staff were pleasant, and they always are in my experience. They are also awesome on the phone , and will send me photos of yarns to be sure I get skeins I want. I don't know how much more someone would want from a store . If a customer is unhappy about an issue then talk to the owner to rectify the issue . I find the Do Ewe Knit owner, Karen, and her staff to always be accommodating . Anyone slamming a small business in such a way - its just wrong. I mean really ! What could have possibly happened In a frigging yarn store to make someone have to go out of their way to create a nasty post. Good lord, why be a hater ? In my experience people like this either they have an axe to grind, are jealous of a successful business owner and likely didn't go into the business at all. People like this need to up their meds. THIS IS A GREAT STORE !!! I'm an avid knitter , and a proud yarn snob. This is one of the best fine yarn stores for great yarns and great inspiration. I'm updating my review because the store has changed locations and made some really positive changes. The selection of yarn is much more diverse and colorful, but still on the more expensive side. I'm okay with paying for good quality fiber, especially when this store stocks indie dyers from across the country that literally no other stores in NJ carry. The staff is so friendly and beyond helpful with picking colors and yarn for projects. The only reason this review doesn't get 5 stars is because of a harassing message someone associated with the store sent me back in February regarding my first review - she told me I was a liar and that I should go buy acrylic yarn to rub on my clients. After that she found my business page and left a 1 star review with some pretty nasty remarks about myself and my office that I had to have removed, as she has never been a client of mine. It's too bad too, because I really like the store and this entire interaction has made me Re-think where I spend my hard earned money. I wish that woman hadn't crossed the line, professionally speaking. Otherwise I'd have forgotten all about this in time and been a happy and loyal customer. Customer is not always right with this business! Several months ago I called to order a kit that was displayed on Facebook as I had been doing throughout the beginning of the Covid lockdown. I had laryngitis and had a hard time talking. Whoever picked up the phone told me to call back when I had a voice. So rude, so nasty that I e-mailed the owner, Karen. Customer from afar. I don't live in commuting distance but am able to order on the phone. I am avid follower of their Instagram. Sure ordering on the phone isn't as quick as online but you get to have interaction with the staff. Patience is key, there are lots of people who also love the store from afar and are ordering on the phone. Great selection, unique items, and beautiful indie dyed yarn! Simply beautiful! I recently visited Do Ewe Knit for a shawl workshop with Stephen West, and Karen's wonderful shop far exceeded my expectations! I should mention I already felt like a friend when I arrived, as Karen is one of my Instagram favorites, but it literally just felt like home walking in the door. The shop is bright and colorful, stocked with some amazing yarns I hadn't yet had the pleasure to see and feel in person, and everyone was buzzing with excitement and so friendly. I live an hour south, but will make every effort to attend as many events at Do Ewe Knit as I physically can, and find myself considering a quick road trip most weekends! Oh. My. God. This was an outstanding yarn shop experience. Karen curates an incredible selection of indie dyed yarn and has such a cute place to house it all. Plan to spend time here. I stayed from 11-3:30, brought some knitting with me, and had one of the most enjoyable days ever! My haul was pretty epic, and because Karen brought it all into the store, there were no shipping fees or wait times for these goodies to be dyed up. My only regret is not bringing the pattern for the project I bought with me so I could dive right in. This was an easy trip from Port Authority via the 113N bus. read more

This is a beautiful yarn store with lovely, helpful staff! We have enjoyed several knitting classes there and the teacher is great!

I visited Do Ewe Knit today for the first time and was very disappointed. The yarn is lovely - what there is of it - but very expensive. I wouldn't have minded that so much if the selection had been wider and the owner had been welcoming. Instead, she was downright chilly. She was so busy with the groupies in the shop she didn't even offer to wind the $25-a-skein yarn I bought. I've been knitting for years and have been to yarn shops all over the country and in Europe. Im not surprised to find so many negative reviews For do ewe knit... I am even less surprised that most of the negative reviews are related to poor customer service from the owner. I took my mother to this store because she is experienced in knitting and crocheting... but she has not been involved in these skills for some years... I tried to explain what we were looking for to the owner... and almost instantly her eyes glazed over and she came up with any excuse to avoid helping us... even suggesting that her yarn was too good for us... and That we couldn't afford it. She signaled her growing disinterest by repeatedly checking her phone. Her lack of interest in cultivating new business makes it appear that she is not running a real business , but rather that the store is a front to coverup Money laundering (only kidding). I suggest not to waste your time here... on a side note...we went to Knit-a-bit in Fanwood later that Day ... and were able to get all the help and supplies that we needed and the staff was wonderful! If you love exclusively Hedgehog yarn in exclusively neon colors, then this shop is for you. Otherwise, you're out of luck. There is so little variation in brand and color, it's baffling. Even the handmade examples were all knit up in blinding pinks and yellows. At 27, I'm no old lady complaining about loud colors, but it was overkill times ten. Since it's billed as a "luxury" yarn shop, the pricey Hedgehog makes sense, but you'd think there'd be more options even in the same price range... I visited last week and barely got a "hi" and "bye" from the owner, who was too busy gossiping away to some friends about her podcast to ask if I needed help or point me in the right direction. I was the only one shopping but she still absolutely ignored me. Usually yarn shop employees make me feel welcome--but not here. I'll recommend other yarn shops to friends in the future. read more

This was my second time in the store and it definitely confirmed what I originally thought! Unfriendly, snobbish, unpleasant owner!!!! I've been knitting for many years and have been to many stores including the one previously located in this location where I was always warmly welcomed. If this was the last knitting store anywhere I would give up knitting rather than buy from her!!! Only sells expensive hand dyed yarns and looks down on you if you do not want to spend upwards of $30 per skein. "Doesn't sell what those other stores sell." In this case I was looking for a simple baby yarn and did not wish to buy expensive hand dyed wools. I've met many fellow knitters who share my sentiments exactly. This shop is small and the yarn is haphazardly packed into shelves. At least half the store is dedicated to one "indie" dyer's yarns. If you look at the bits and pieces of other yarns carried, the bitter, critical owner will steer you towards her pet Hedgehog Fibres. There's an enormous amount of badmouthing of of other yarn companies and she's super jealous of other, well-loved shops. Her prices are a fair bit higher than better-stocked, welcoming shops. Also, forget about sweater quantities of yarn; you won't find them. Don't waste your knitting joy here. read more

After I moved and consolidated all of my yarn I realized how long it had been since I'd knitted. Almost 2 years!!! I started knitting with my 16 year old she. Do Ewe Knit was in Hoboken. I drive out to Westfield because no matter how stupid I feel my novice mistakes are anyone who happens to be in the store knitting to is so happy to help! Hmmmmm....... The lower reviews do no justice to this lovely shop! If you are looking for some crazy colored and hard to get yarn in the US then DoEweKnit is your Hedgehog Fibers HQ! I didn't have a daunting or rude experience... In fact it was quite lovely! I went in there knowing that I wanted HH yarn and my mother was able to ask questions and receive help. Is the yarn pricey? Yes! Good yarn is expensive! Is it worth it!? Yes! Karen and her fiber team are fantastic, friendly, and supportive. I traveled from DC to meet her and buy her supply of HHF! Despite a nice selection of supplies, the owner's attitude is so nasty that I would not return to this store. I came in one day and chatted with a nice employee about crochet lessons. She told me that the series had already begun and I could pay a pro-rated fee. The following week I returned and took a lesson. When I went to pay for the lesson and the crochet hook, the owner asked me for the complete series fee. I said that I was told the fee would be pro-rated. She got indignant and said they do not do that. She told me the series was continuing and I would make the missing lessons up. I'm not able to attend classes at that time, but she didn't care about that. The employee who told me about the pro-rated fee was right there and tried to intercede, but the owner shut her right down. She did not honor the policy that her employee told me. She was rude, arrogant and loud. I was so embarrassed that I paid the entire fee. There are plenty of other places to learn how to crochet. I feel sorry for the people who work for her. read more

This was my first time there and I LOVED it! The owner is so helpful and sweet. I met some regulars and they were so welcoming and friendly. The owner took some time to speak to me and she was great! Look, the yarn is very trendy and fun, though extremely limited if you want to do something more tame. But, after two very disparate experiences with the owner- one where she was acting like a manic 13 year old at her Bat Mitzvah and the other where she was miserable and complaining about how stressful her online orders were- I will not be giving her any more of my business. I've spent north of $500 there and was treated like I was invisible, though I did get a big fat rubber stamp on my receipt warning NO RETURNS ON SALE and NO EXCHANGES ON HEDGEHOG (which is easily 75% of their inventory). They never offered to wind my yarn, didn't even bother to say goodbye or thank you. Her employees fear her and I just don't have the patience for an adult woman trying to become a social media celebrity.
