But then, some days, a stroll around the store can be just what you need to brighten your day. Walking around Target, feeling the texture of the pajama pants, comparing lipstick shades - things you just can't do from an iPad on the couch. Of course I ended up with things in my cart that I didn't go in for but I also didn't come home with what I wanted - the skim milk was set to expire the next day and the only available size of the laundry pods that I wanted would last me a year. Target is not much different than a number of stores today - finding help was nearly impossible. I used self checkout which I'm sure got me out a whole lot faster than waiting in the only open check out lane. I'm not about to give up online shopping anytime soon but spending an hour strolling around Target was a nice distraction.

Because I'm sensitive to fragrances and can develop migraines from exposure, spending extended time shopping in stores with perfume counters can be challenging. Jason was incredibly understanding, patient, and attentive. He made the return process easy and treated me with genuine kindness. I even offered to help put the dresses back on hangers, and he simply smiled and said, "No problem, it gives me something to do." That small moment really showed his positive attitude and willingness to help. Thank you, Jason, for making my experience at Belk such a pleasant one. Many of the fresh vegetables were gone. I suspect they bring food in for the weekend which is when people go there to shop. The store stocks Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai foods. I am sure they sell other varieties of Asian foods. They have a good selection of dry noodles. I did not see any yakisoba or kimchi. This store is large and was full of shoppers. There was a sale on fall merchandise. The checkout registers were 3-4 deep of customers waiting to pay. I walked past the people to see what people were buying. Well that was hard to see right away. There are aisles stocked up to the ceiling against the walls. Christmas items were along the back wall. Now I know why I can't find Christmas items in December! Some items were marked down 70% and people were buying. There was an abundance of Halloween stuff on sale too. Clocks and pictures looked to be hugely marked down. Markdown signs were all over. A shopper's paradise is markdown and clearance signs. I have friends who shop at Hobby Lobby 2-3 times a month. I see why. The store seems to have a little bit of everything. It would be very easy to fill up a shopping cart. Ok back to what I was looking for. I did find several wood pieces I could use to elevate my Kaleidoscape. The number of wood and cork items I could have purchased were tenfold what the other store had. I got in line to pay and only had 1 person in front of me. Checkout was fast and very pleasant. I highly recommend this store. It was a pleasure walking around inside and I will return.

I need to talk to someone in the garden center. I go to back to the garden center and the 2 guys there tell me I have to back outside and get the sign showing they are on sale and take it back to indoor check out. I do that... they are not convinced that sign belongs to those plants. The guys in the garden center (who have the plants in trying to buy) call someone else. He says in this instance he will make an exception and honor the price I'm stating. They want me to go back into the store, walk back to the garden center, get the plants and the sign and go back to cashier. They tell me they're not their plants, they belong to a third party vendor and they can't just give them away ! They didn't give them away. I left.

Mike…read moreJones and his Father, Ray started Mike's Merchandise as an offshoot of their family machine shop business with most of the items they sell coming from inventory reduction auctions. The machine shop and retail store shared a Guntersville space until it became a little awkward when Sak's lingerie, women's dresses, and footwear (2$-3$ each) shared the same space with greasy tools and machines. Eventually, they opened the first retail store in Guntersville and now (and have for a good while) have stores in Huntsville, Decatur, Montgomery, Muscle Shoals, and Auburn. Yeah, there is a lot of stuff in a MM!! Books, yearbooks and bestsellers, sports fan related items (think Blue Jays themed socks), nuts, bolts, uniforms, stationery, school supplies, sports equipment, picture frames, Bubba Gump glasses, barrettes, office desks, grills, nuts, bolts, tools, flashlights, live orchids - you get it. It's a bargain hunter's paradise if you don't have ADHD and can focus on getting only what you are looking for. Interestingly enough, they don't always know what is in some of the boxes they bid on at auction and once ended up with F-16 fighter jet parts that required Pentagon permission to sell. (They sold nearly all the parts, too!) Like their website says, after visiting the Guntersville and Huntsville stores, I did find myself saying, as many MM shoppers do, "I'll bet that would come in handy, if I just knew what it was for." :)
