The store itself has a good selection and the items either have prices similar to other places or quite often, have some pretty amazing prices. The overall service is decent enough. They are open week ends Saturday 8 am to 9 PM subdays 8 am to 8 pm for shoppers! (My complaint I was getting hot dog & coke : paid lady for items & given cup to fill up while she got my dog. Ordered everything omit: came back plain. Then had to get back in line to pick up my hot dog? Who designed this? The app is AWFUL and the employees are even WORSE. Express Pay has a 40 item limit so I paid for the first 40 items so that I could start a new ticket for the remaining items but that doesn't work. I got in line at the cashier to pay for the remaining items but she told me I have to go to Self Checkout because she won't help me. When I scanned the remaining items in Self Checkout it wouldn't show the coupons I would have been able to use in Express Pay. I called for help and the same cashier came over. She acted very exasperated that I needed her help. It was quite difficult to apply my coupons from the app in the Self Checkout. The Loss Prevention man at the exit acted confused about how to check my receipts. When I explained what had happened, he told me I should go tell it to Customer Service because it's not his job to hear about it. read more

I've been to BJ's twice the day I signed up, and yesterday. The lady who signed me up was so helpful and welcoming. My first day I was a little confused on how to clip coupons and another employee was extremely helpful. He got me a coupon book because I didn't clip them in the app, but he also took time to show me how to do it going forward, and so did the lady who signed me up. My son-in-law, Steve Howard, is a member of BJ's Wholesale Club. I go with him to BJs in Madison, Alabama twice a week. I have been living with him since January 2025 so my experience with BJs is by no means limited. At the Madison, Al store they have a snack bar where you're supposed to be able to ger a hot dog from 11:00 AM, previously earlier. Since I have been going to this store with Steve we have not been able to get a hot dog on time ever. They are late opening from 10 to 45 minutes every day. Today, March 20th, we tried to get a hot dog at 11: 45 AM, they weren't ready. The sign says 11:00 AM. Is this perennial opening late a failure of management, I would have to say yes. I have ended my working life, I am 79 and retired, in 65 years I was never late once, If I was getting paid I considered it a moral imperative to honor that social contract to be ready to start ON TIME, not 45 minutes late. If the people you have running this small convenience have more important things to do, you should cut them loose to do those things. Starting your shift when the Spirit moves you is unacceptable. read more

BJ's opened its first location in Alabama today! The BJ's team was ready and promptly welcomed the long line of eager customers through the doors at 8 am. The store was in pristine condition with every shelf and display perfectly arranged...probably the last time we will see that. I estimate that BJ's is 80% the same as Sam's Club with 20% unique items. The Sam's Member's Mark items are Wellsley Farms at BJ's. The prices appeared to be about the same as Sam's and Costco's, but the special discounts today were welcomed. I do like that BJ's has a liquor store, something that Sam's doesn't have. Also, BJ's has a large number of coupons that are easily accessed via their app. I think I will stay with BJ's and not renew my Sam's membership. read more

I've been a BJ's member for a while, but I'm seriously reconsidering because of how aggressive the in-store sales tactics have become--especially at the Madison, AL location. It used to be just the AT&T reps constantly flagging me down as I walked by, which was already frustrating. But now I've had people actually walk up to me while I'm grocery shopping trying to sell products. It's intrusive, uncomfortable, and frankly, completely out of line. I'm there to shop, not to be harassed. BJ's, please do better and respect your customers' space. read more

I went to the opening of BJ's wholesale club. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. I found the prices cheaper than Costco. BJ's offers the same types of products and services as Costco but at better prices. The best feature/advantage of BJ's is the location. No more driving into downtown Huntsville. Great addition to the Madison/West Huntsville area. Comparable to Sam's Club but with a smaller feel. They carry bulk products and some private label brands like Berkeley Jenson and Wellsley Farms (comparable to Member's Mark and Kirkland Signature. Staff was friendly and helpful, and they have a great app for coupons and a scan and go feature. Because of the smaller format, some areas of the store can feel tight to navigate. The music was also super loud when I visited - like loud enough that you had to speak over it for people to you hear you. They have a fuel center, tire center, and spirits store. read more

SPECIFICALLY FOR TIRE CENTER: Will definitely change my rating if they fix this within the month but this is my 2nd day in a row where I just wanted to refill my propane tank at the tire center. They listed their hours on a piece of paper & it specifically said they're closed 6pm on Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays. Tell me why I showed up both times, at least 1-2 hours prior to closing and they were closed. Called their customer service line and either got no response or that they were closed. Why put up hours of operations for them to not honor their hours? Really wanted to support BJs but they need to get their customer service ratings up or I fear this competitor of Costco & Sam's will just close down a shy after their 1 year of opening. We finally went to the new BJ's store, now that the grand opening fever has died down. Impressive. It seems like a pretty good addition to the Madison area. Very convenient to our home. The store is clean and BEAUTIFUL, and seems to have all kinds of great stuff available for purchase. I can't tell yet, how it compares to Costco and Sam's Club. I'll need a shop there a few times and compare prices and products. We had to cut our first trip to BJ's very short, though, due to an unsettling incident with an employee. As we were entering the store for the first time, the door "greeter" was unexpectedly rude to us. It was a pretty bizarre encounter. First of all, she didn't "greet" us. She said nothing as we approached her at the entrance. She just stared at us. So, I greeted her, and I told her that it was our first time at BJ's and asked if we have to show a membership card as we enter. She didn't answer. I held up my phone with the app loaded and asked how to find the proof of membership part. Without saying a word to me, she reached out and attempted a take my phone from my hand TWICE (presumably to show me where to find the proof of membership in the BJ's app). I pulled my hand/phone back both times and said "I'll do it, if you tell me how." So, instead of explaining it to me, she stepped back and said in a very loud (almost mocking tone), "If you're gonna do it, DO IT." and just stood there staring at me. I was a bit dumbfounded. Then she said it AGAIN, just as loudly. "If you're gonna do it, DO IT." I asked her for help again, but she kept talking AT my daughter and me in a very loud, unfriendly tone. I finally found the membership thing and showed it to her and went inside, but our first experience there was kinda ruined by that employee's bad attitude. My autistic daughter was stunned and frightened by the experience and she wanted to go home, so we couldn't stay in the store very long. Perhaps that particular door "greeter" needs some additional training in basic FRIENDLINESS and customer care. In situations like this, I'm a big believer in identifying the offender BY NAME. Unfortunately, I was so taken aback by the experience that I didn't think to look for her name tag. Everyone else we saw or encountered while there seemed pretty friendly. It's probably just that one woman "greeter." She's got a brand new, well-paying job in a sucky economy -- and she's already a bit too "salty" for her own good. **Whether they correct that woman's behavior/attitude pretty fast or not, is a pretty good indicator of the store manager's level of commitment to excellent customer service. read more

We use grocery pick up because it's convenient, and due to working so much it saves us time with a full house of kids. This customer service is disappointing in many ways. They usually forget half my order every time ,which I pay a membership for that convenience. I have to call and battle with someone about picking it back up, and waste a 30 minute drive back to the store to pick up the items. They are rude, I've been made to load groceries myself, and the supervisor has a bad attitude. He isn't professional and never even cared when I told him that this keeps happening. Short story, it is not worth it. I'm the customer. I should not be treated poorly because they didn't do their job correctly. They should at least apologize and want to help. They don't. read more

We're in Limestone County, so the location had us looking forward to the opening. Costco in Huntsville is great, but a long drive. We bought the $110 Club+ membership, which included an $80 reward, so we were looking at $30 net to check it out. The selections are not nearly as good as Costco, nor are the house brands. Toothpaste and shampoo options are very limited. Kirkland wine is always very good for the price; Wellesley Farms is crap. The toilet paper texture is OK, but the rolls are noticeably smaller than Kirkland. For the record, a detailed online review found Costco prices slightly cheaper overall. BJ's gasoline is cheaper, though, and the Club+ card got us a 15 cent discount off the posted price, which was already low. So, we can probably recoup the $30 in gas savings over the year. But we won't renew next year - why would we when Costco is opening in Clift Farms next year? read more

We were looking for an alternative to Costco, the prices seemed competitive and the gas price was better. After your initial visit and buying our BJ's membership we completed our first purchase of 8 items only to be told after the transaction we could have saved some money if we had used our coupons. I asked if we could return our purchases and get the money back we could have saved. The manager said it was to close to closing time and we would need to return everything and re buy it. Second visit we carefully jumped through all the hoops to be sure we got our coupons. Bottom line, it's not worth the drive or the huge hassle, we will stick with Sam's and Costco! read more
