TLDR: Smaller Costco, no gas station, but great customer service. So I finally did it: I got my own Costco membership. Once upon a time, I used to go to Costco with my brother pretty regularly (he has a membership). It was part of our hanging out time, and I loved it. I remember once a few years ago I was in a mall and there was a kiosk set up to sell Costco memberships. They were giving out free stuff, so I had to stop and take a look, haha. The man asked me if I was a Costco member and I said no, but my brother was and he'd take me every week or two, so I was familiar with Costco. He told me if I got my own membership I could go anytime I wanted, but if going to Costco was this thing my brother and I did and it was our quality time together then I shouldn't get my own membership and just continue to go with my brother. I thought that was such a lovely thing to say. And he ended up giving me the free cookies or chocolate or whatever it was they were giving out anyway, lol. Well fast forward to present day and my brother is super busy with his kids, his work and other stuff and we haven't been to Costco together now for several years. He still goes regularly, but on his own right at opening on a weekend (he's on the other side of town, and I'm not an early bird, so I definitely don't go with him). He still buys me stuff when I ask him like Craisins, pumpkin seeds and almond butter (staples in my house), but I don't get to browse and see what's new in the warehouse. What precipitated me getting a membership, believe it or not, was a jar of avocado mayo. I love avocado mayo (I'm talking 100% of the oil used is avocado oil, not the Hellman's Avocado mayo that's mostly canola oil with a bit of avocado oil mixed in) but it's expensive as hell at grocery stores (like $15 for a tiny 355ml jar). When I saw in the Costco flyer that a 946ml jar was only $9.49 I immediately asked my brother to buy it for me. However, it's only available at regular Costcos and my brother only goes to the Costco Business Centre these days. What's an avocado mayo loving girl to do in this situation? Get her own Costco membership and buy a jar herself! My husband and I were in Kanata for an afternoon function, so we decided to head over to this Kanata Costco to buy a membership and the avocado mayo. We were served by Ziny at the Customer Service Desk, who was very courteous, informative and helpful. We got our memberships and headed into the warehouse. This location is smaller than most Costcos and their food court area is also very small. They don't have a gas station either. Anyway, we found the avocado mayo and it was even $0.50 less than advertised ($8.99). Score! We picked up a few other items too. They were giving out samples of various items, but most of them were either not of interest to me, or there were hoards of people crowding around. Now I like free stuff, but my dislike of crowds is stronger, so I kept going. I did manage to get a sample of some S'mores clusters ;) It was my first time at this Kanata Costco. I heard that the plan is to close it and open a new location at the Tanger Outlets that will be bigger and have a gas station. There is no timeline that I know of, and it's just what I heard, so not sure if it will happen. Anyway, that's my Costco story. This location is across from the Kanata Centrum. Oof, this place is dangerous. I make a list and try to stick by it. Parking is coocoo, I try to go at off times. Mid day or just before close. Employees are always kind at check out but I wish there were a few more on the floor. It's a big place and I can never find what I need the most! Things get moved around so much or get discontinued so if you see something great, buy it! Samples... ugh. I'm always hungry as I get so busy, I forget to eat. Yum. I love everything they serve. Unless egg or mayo related. Customers are usually friendly and one has to be understanding in this place as the shopping carts are huge! I love looking at seasonal items, avoid the sweets, clothing and books. And the cold rooms, brrr! I tend to buy all my paper products there and am addicted to their croissants. Sooo many in a batch tho so I like to give some away while fresh as they don't freeze well. I buy hamburger and cut it 4 times to freeze as I am an expert now at pasta sauce for my lasagna and chili. I bought recently a heated blanket I'm in love with and want another one but I think they are all gone now. Its costco perfect what can you say more?! Everything here is like a well oiled machine. Always pick a left lane and a female checkout. They're more responsive and move things along. Disney did the million dollar research and you can you use it to your benefit. No one picks the left line for some reason and so its the empty one that gets you thru. read more

This is your standard big box store from this U.S. chain, but although this is supposedly a smaller outlet than the first one built in the city of Ottawa, I've heard that people from the east end like the west end outlet better - - for the smaller lineups! I don't know that you could convince me of that on a Saturday though ;-O !! This store is big enough, thank you very much! I've heard they are building another one too (Barrhaven? Not sure where...) One service they have added which I found very helpful and useful is a wireless booth which advertises many different providers. It is very difficult comparing the different advantages of all the providers, but this wireless shop has its advantages too, being located inside a Costco! Beware though that if you are an Apple fan, you won't get your fix here: Apple will not give Costco a sufficient significant discount, so Costco will not sell any Apple products at all in any of their stores. With just the 2 of us, buying in bulk doesn't always work, so we have to shop wisely if we don't want our purchases to go bad. I have done a lot of shopping here for the Social Committee's snack shack, which has proven to be very popular. Aside from size 10 batteries - 30 of them for just $10, they also offer easy dinner ideas, a variety of clothing for the family, and of course furniture. What a combination! Love going shopping at Costco, though my wallet hurts with every trip. The stores carry a wide range of products from produce to electronics, eyewear to household supplies. Keep in mind that you will be paying more upfront, but the savings come because you are buying in bulk, so the per unit cost is less than what you would pay for in regular stores for the same amount. This particular location has all the amenities that you would find in the other Costco locations (eyewear, photo printing, cafeteria) with the same pricing, though I find they don't carry a lot of the products other Costco locations in the city do, but that could be because this is a smaller location. One downfall of going to this particular location is because it services basically all the West end, it can get packed very quick. The parking of this particular location is also extremely poor. If you do not like large crowds or having to wait to find parking I would avoid this location during anytime after 11am or on the weekends. read more

I used the Costco photo Canada web site and created some gifts for the 80th birthday of my aunt . I was able to check out and enter the shipping address. However, I got stuck at the Billing page since I live in the US and the web site did not let me enter the US billing address. I then called the Costco photo support number and talked to a support person. (I did not get her name) She was not helpful at all and was rude. So I still could not order the gifts yet. Very disappointed with the Costco photo service of Canada. I have been using the photo service in US before and never had problems. This is my first negative review on Yelp. No way Jose to the Merivale and Innes location!! But yes way to the Kanata location! Yes, all Costcos are busy all the time, some days more than others but the Kanata location has so much more room for parking! We have been on the busiest day and parking was no problem! Checkout lanes always seem long but the lines move quickly. One thing I can't stand is cramped parking - that's why I rather drive a bit out of my way instead of having my property damaged in a tiny parking lot of a huge and major warehouse. Price wise - Some items are really not worth getting in bulk even if you have a big family or office staff, etc. it's just better getting it from your local supermarket. read more

Have a list of what you plan on buying, go in and buy just what was on that list, and get out! LOL Walking around you'll want everything because everything's a deal in there. During the busier times they have more sampling for you as you walk around. A wonderland for a guy to shop at! I hate shopping - but I love Costco! I shop like once a week and for whatever reason, the cart rings-up like $100-$200 each trip! Pros: Straight-forward aisles and organization, no coupons, great prices, no more than like two options for similar products (e.g. Kirkland Salsa, Old El Paso salsa) bulk quantities to never have to buy anything too often (example - enough shampoo for a year+). Great staff at this location - super-friendly and helpful. Some products, I can't even imagine paying non-bulk prices! Rewards credit card that I just love and use everywhere. Membership easily pays for itself! Cons: Sometimes produce isn't as good of a price, so some items I forgo, or I just buy it so my wife never asks me to buy it ever again (so another Pro). read more

My friends and I were walking to somewhere in Kanata, ended hungry, so landed ourselves at this Costco for a bite. I felt sick after eating there, but figured it was caused by eating too much sugar. On my way home, I started feeling really thirsty. Kept drinking water, no relief. Woke up in middle of night, spent 6 hours vomiting non-stop, and when there was nothing left in my stomach, was just painful dry-heaving. I couldn't go 5 miutes without throwing up. This is a basic Costco. The good: Actually very clean and the areas well spaced for numerous carriages at the same time. Lots of cash registers opened so we did not wait for long. Cashiers super friendly. Lots of boxes. The bad: Eggs section not cleaned properly, traces on floors and the ones on palettes ready to drop. It's Costco, you love it, or hate it, or resign yourself to making the best of it. Found this store to have a similar layout to ours at home so that made it easy to find what we wanted. Staff were able to answer our questions and seemed happy to do so. You really have to adjust how you shop in Costco, especially with food. What starts out as seeming like a good deal when you buy in bulk, loses it's benefit when you end up through most of it out because you couldn't use it all before it goes bad. read more

I went in for a quick bite only, so this is a review of their food court only. I had a deli Montreal smoked meat sandwich with a drink which came to about $6. The hot dogs were cheaper, around $2 or $3. The sandwich came with a large and tasty pickle, the deli meat itself was very tasty and juicy. The bread was decent, nothing fancy. It's also worth noting that the sandwich was quite large and made a rather large lunch. One thing I would recommend is to not look over this sandwich just because it's from costco, it is actually quite tasty. It has better quality meat then subway and quiznos. Costco also has a very strict hygiene policy which is great. So why the three start rating? Well because the eating area was like a crowded flea market, tables were dirty. This review is about the tire centre. This morning the 26th of October 2018 I went to the Costco Tire centre on Silver seven road in Kanata to get four previously ordered tires installed. My appointment was for 8 AM and it was suggested I get there 15 minutes before my appointment. I arrived at 7:40 and stood in a lineup till 8:08. The guy behind the counter shouted anyone here with an appointment, I held up my hand, the only one in the lineup BTW. It didn't make a difference I still had to stand in the line. He must have liked to hear his own voice. My car was finally finished at 10:10 pm that's over one half hour per tire. I went to ask for finish time for my car and was told to stand in line again I explained to the ignorant person my story and he said and I quote " I don't care about you or your car stand in line". I'm a senior and a longtime executive Costco member and I think the treatment I received was deplorable. I left the tire centre and only upon reading my invoice did I realize I am supposed to return for re- torquing of my wheel nuts after driving 40 Km. This is not only wrong to be treated this way but it's dangerous There was one other fellow behind the counter at the tire centre who overheard my exchange and went to check on my car for me. He returned with my invoice and car keys. I thanked him and we had a short conversation where he basically said the tire centre was a circus and appointments don't make much difference. I went back in the main store to speak with the manager but was told he was not in yet. read more

My prescription wasn't on file or among the incoming faxes, he contacted my doctor's office to have them re-send the prescription and he CALLED ME BACK (!) to update me on the status! Overall, the warehouse is good. Good service, friendly staff etc. However, the pharmacy is frustrating, to say the least. They make so many, many mistakes. Called on Friday for a refill, was supposed to be dine for Saturday afternoon. I didn't have time to go then, so I call this morning (Sunday)to check if the prescription was ready, and guess what? It wasn't done! When asking for my refill, I was told to go there in two hours. Two hours, after they had two days to process my request....... So, so frustrating. And this is not the first time it happens. The pharmacy management is incompetent. I will take my prescriptions to another pharmacy! read more

I would like to send a complaint about the Tire Centre in Kanata, Ontario COSTCO. I bought winter tires last November and have had to return to the tire centre x3 as each tire has developed a slow leak. This has been time consuming and difficult as I do not live near a Costco (about 30 minutes drive each way). My 4th tire has also developed a slow leak yet I didn't return to Costco to fix it. Each time I went there I mentioned that All 4 Tires need checking yet, only one was amended each visit. I was not heard. Another complaint I have is that my winter tires will not come off my vehicle. I have tried 3 times now to take off my rear tires with a variety of tools and at the 3rd attempt the rear wheels finally came off. Only to find that the front wheels, refuse to. The reason for this has simply been bad fitting from the Costco Tire Centre. Rims need to be cleaned before being placed and anti-seize needs to be applied. Both actions were not taken by Costco Kanata Tire Centre. I realize that I can have free service from the Tire Centre but that should not mean lower standard of service. Now, I have to contact the Tire Centre again (if they ever answer their phones) to rearrange another appointment so that they can take off my tires. However, I feel increasingly anxious about being served by Costco and angry that I cannot rely on a proper job done. read more

I placed an online order to COSTCO for a garden shed on May 10, 2019. Tracking information showed that SAMEDAY WORLDWIDE picked it up in Vaughan Ontario on May 13. It's May 23, ten days later and the STATUS shows 'PICKED UP'. I tried to contact COSTCO's CHAT Line but their CHAT was unresponsive. So, I called SAMEDAY at 1-877-726-3329 and within a minute or so I was being helped by 'Jennifer'. At first it seemed to me that she couldn't find the shipment. I got the impression that they had indeed 'picked it up' but that it had been forgotten and was sitting at the back of some warehouse collecting dust. However, Jennifer asked if delivery this Saturday, May 25, would work for me...and I said OK. I checked the tracking information on the SAMEDAY site (twice) today and it still shows 'picked up' with no indication of a delivery date. Should I be worried? Should SAMEDAY be worried, COSTCO? Do I hear the giant sucking sound of AMAZON? read more

I was severely disappointed by one of the staff members being very pushy for a membership as I was there with a friend. I felt very harassed by her as she continued to harass me throughout the check-out. I have not been to Costco for years and was very excited to experience the deals available to me. Overall there were some deals that were worth the trip and others were not. I spent close to $400 easily because I was buying in bulk. read more

I mean...who doesn't love Costco? I've been coming here since way back when I first knew it as Priceclub. Among the Costco's in the Ottawa area, I've got to say this one's my favourite. It's got great selection and the staff are really helpful. The hot foods area does pose as an obstacle because it's location right in front of the checkout counters so when it's busy and there's a lot of people, it's difficult to find where the food line up is. Very disappointed by Costco Kanata handling of COVID19 situation. Some of the employees are acting in a very impolite way at the cash, directing you to step next to a X mark on the floor yelling at you as if they were talking their child. They only care about protecting themselves, not the members. How can it be safe to have 3 employees at the cash, each has gloves on, one unload you card, the cashier pass the items through the cash, the third reload the card and repeat with the next member with the same gloves on. Each member touched its grocery before putting it in its card, 3 employees touch each members grocery before giving it back to you to deal with whatever crap they put on for you. All the precautions you take by disinfecting your hand and getting the items way behind that others could not have touched, are erased at the cash putting you in danger. they even do it at the self cash that is no more. I found it to be disrespectful to the members, not protecting at all! read more

Well, it's Costco. What can I say. Good deals galore, but plan on spending lots of $$, as it seems the bill always creeps into the hundreds. I think we still have that tub of basil we bought in 2003! I use the optometry section, and I have been pleased with the service and product... although sometimes the wait can be long on account of all the people. The propane is a great deal - much better than the local gas station, and definitely better than the scam that is returnable containers. Service has always been friendly and the hot dogs/ice cream on the way out is a winner of an idea when tight on time and the kids are in need of sustenance. read more

Great store ..my favourite! Staff are friendly, parking is great & their meat & veggies are always fresh. This place turns over a lot if volume! Only two down falls I've noticed is 1) their tire department isn't overly efficient or friendly & there isn't always someone at their customer service desk (Tire Dept). 2) I wish their fod menu offered low sodium alternatives. read more
