    Uniqlo - inside

    Uniqlo

Uniqlo has finally opened in Bayshore! Uniqlo is a Japanese casual wear retailer, known for its…read morehigh quality clothing. The majority of clothing sold at this store is pretty much just wardrobe essentials; plain longsleeve tees, active zip ups, plain shirts, jackets, etc. This store is focused on the concept of "timeless basics" rather than chasing the current fashion trends. For some reason, I always thought this store was a lot cheaper than other stores but it turns out that unfortunately no, it is not. I bought a zip up for $50 and a plain longsleeve tee for $25. Not that it's expensive, just not a store that I would label as "cheap," but more "affordable." I love that this store is wide and spacious, and it didn't feel crowded even though the store was pretty busy. The coolest thing about this store, though? They have self-checkouts instead of a cashier, and not the normal self-checkouts you're used to, either. It's the kind where you place all your items into this bin, and then everything's instantly & automatically scanned. Then you pay and it prints out your receipt. Mind you, there was around 5 of these self-checkouts so there wasn't a line you had to wait in to pay for your items. Something to note: Uniqlo also has a Uniqlo app, where you have access to app-exclusive discounts and special items that aren't available in-store. I'd recommend downloading this app prior coming to the store, because the reception was weak when I tried to download it on-the spot. All in all, a great new clothing store to check out!

If you love cheap dress pants, modern blazers, sheer embellished blouses, peplum tanks and leggings, then this store is for you! The only downside is that the racks were PACKED! A month later.... Today I decided to treat myself and get some much needed work clothes. I found a couple of items that I wanted to try on, and then was approached by a sales associate. She asked if I was doing OK. I asked her for a specific item, and her and her coworker both said that they did not have any, which I later found on a rack. The two associates working tonight really did not look like they enjoyed their job. They both looked M-I-S-S-E-R-A-B-L-E, and were more concerned with giving customers dirty looks and gossiping. I really just wanted to get my items and get the hell out of there. One associate did check up on me when I was trying on clothes, but it was not sincere, and it was forced. I could tell by her tone. I must mention they make their clothes a little big. I am usually at least a large or XL for bottoms, but I left with a size medium bottoms. I think their sizes are made larger, if that makes sense? While checking out, the cashier gave her whole speech on why I should sign up for their store card and it will only cost me $10 more dollars. I cut her off 2 minutes into her whole speech and told her I would pass, which seemed to pissed her off even more. You know that feeling that you get after you purchase an item? You know, that instant gratification, happy, excited feeling? Yeah I love that feeling. Unfortunately I did not get that feeling this time. The staff just killed that feeling for me. Minus 2 stars for customer service. I guess it goes to show that a place can be good one night depending on who is staffed, and it could be a total miss another night if you have grouchy, unhappy workers. I have a new appreciation for online shopping!

The three stars are for the clothes, which I really like, as it's totally appropriate for 20s-30s without being too revealing OR too fuddy. I could do without the vanity sizing, though - walking away with a size Small dress when I'm usually a medium feels disingenuous and I have no idea what size the truly small / x-small among us buy at Suzy Shier! The two stars removed is for the customer service. I've never been treated badly, but the staff always looks miserable and totally uninterested. It's not fun to shop when you feel like you're bothering someone by asking them to open up a dressing room for you.

Actually, this location opened after…read moreall the Danier locations closed, so it's not an original location that survived the closures, it's a new location. Once upon a time, Danier had many locations across Canada, they were in most major malls. Then one day, all the locations closed without much fanfare. Then one quietly popped up in Oshawa - imagine my surprise as I was milling around at the Oshawa Centre and spotted a Danier store! Then one day, stores started popping up again. They now have 12 across Canada. Much less than in the past (around 80). Anyway, this one at Bayshore Shopping Centre is the only Danier store in Ottawa. I'm still not sure what the story was/is with them, but I'm glad to have a Danier store to shop at again. Danier sells leather goods. They sell mostly leather jackets (men's and women's), purses, wallets, gloves, and belts. They also sell non-leather goods, like wool sweaters. I have several Danier jackets and they have nice styles and all sorts of colours beyond black and brown. I have a super cute pink leather jacket from them, lol. Their sizes run large, a small there fits a size 6-8. So I'm an XXXS (3XS), which sounds freakishly small, but it's not, it's like a size 0-2. I'm glad to see Danier back in business in Ottawa :)

They don't quite have as much stock on the floor as they did in the old shops, but they had a nice variety although they did not have cloth scarves. The clerk was friendly and helpful. There was a 25% off special, apparently, but it wasn't well advertised. Let's see how well the store stands the test of time - no easy feat in these COVID times - or if they'll end up being a pop-up shop.
