For those not familiar with Joe Fresh it's a Canadian brand that in Canada is sold exclusively at Loblaws (a grocery store), Loblaws affiliated stores (e.g. Real Canadian Superstore, Atlantic Superstore, etc.), and of course in their free-standing Joe Fresh stores. They've expanded to the USA with standalone stores and they were sold at JC Penney's for a while, but not anymore, so they might be in other stores in America now, I'm not sure. The designer behind the brand is Joe Mimran of Club Monaco fame (his wife is Kimberly Newport, founder of Pink Tartan). Despite these big names though, Joe Fresh is cheap fast fashion, not designer duds. When the brand first launched at Loblaws in the mid-2000s, admittedly I thought that buying clothes at a grocery store was weird, but the line is very successful and so much so that they built free-standing stores. I like the casual styles of Joe Fresh, but quality control is not great in my opinion. I've noticed skewed hems, loose threads, and some of their stuff shrinks very oddly in the dryer. However, they have really good sales and I've gotten jeans for less than $5 and dresses for less than $10. I mostly wear their stuff to loaf around the house or to run quick errands. They also have athletic wear in cute styles, so I wear Joe Fresh to the gym too. Their sizes run a bit big, so you'll likely have to size down. They don't have petites or tall, but they have plus sizes (up to 3X). They sell men's, women's and kid's clothes. Regular clothes, workout clothes, outerwear, sleepwear and underwear. This location is large and has more selection than at the grocery stores. Lots of free parking since it's in an enclosed mall.

This store is huge, very brightly lit, and caters to everything from baby clothing, men clothing, girls clothing and especially woman clothing and accessories. I originally was not going to go in, but then saw a huge sign that said 30% off everything and just had to check it out. I really got that whole GAP, slash H&M vibe from this store. I was pretty impressed. Their items are mid priced, but not cheap, i.e $39.99 for a top. Thankfully for their 30% off Pre Black Friday Sale, I snagged a pair of pajamas and a cardigan for just over $40.00. Customer service was alright. The associate on the sales floor acknowledged me, but the cashiers were not the friendliest (maybe it was because it was super busy and they were stressed...who knows?) I am still trying to separate Joe Fresh, from Loblaws grocery chain, but I think its neat that their clothing line came this far.

The cuts are usually very flattering and they often have an asymmetric element to them, which is totally my style, lol. They only have regular sizes here, no petite or plus sizes. They often have sales of 20-60% off clearance items. I've gotten really cute pieces here for less than $10. This location at the Ottawa Trainyards is big, with lots of selection. Their fitting rooms at the back are unisex. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

My review is for my visit to the Trainyards location earlier this afternoon where I browsed the sales racks looking for a couple tops. I tried a couple on and selected 2 tops. One had a stain on the back of it. I was going to ask about a possible further reduction on the price. There appeared to only be one clerk in he store and she was busy with another customer. By the time she was finished with the other customer I had started to browse the store some more and decided I really didn't want to buy the tops I had selected, so I left.

I would describe the aesthetic as fast fashion casual and business-casual wear for 30 somethings. They have some cute pieces, but nothing really unique or fashion forward. Quality is satisfactory for the price if you get it on sale. In my opinion, the regular prices are too high for the quality of the items. They have 3 lengths for pants, short (30" inseam), regular (32" inseam) and tall (34" inseam). Their sizes start at 0 and go up to 18 (so does cover the "plus" range of 14+). I find their sizes run big. I can sometimes wear a 0 but sometimes even the 0 is too big (my jeans size is 24 to 26 depending on cut and brand, so I'm not THAT small). Same goes for their lettered sizing (runs big), which ranges from XS to XXL. If they are going to do this vanity sizing then they should carry 00 and XXS. Anyway, this location has a good selection of items and they always have lots in their clearance section.

I need spring clothes anyway! The Ricki's caught my eye with their splash of spring colours and If that wasn't inviting enough, they had huge sales on too! There was a selection of clothing at 40% off, and Tees were BOGO - buy one get one free - and these were nautical in design. Very nice! I have to say, the staff was stellar - all of them! Very helpful pointing out the best sales, finding the right sizes, and stocking up my dressing room. There was only 1 minor glitch: the 40% off sale didn't present itself on my bill correctly, and I didn't realize this until after I had returned home. So, I returned to the shop the next day, and the people who had helped me were not there that day - it was someone else. So I explained the problem, and the clerk behind the counter said, brightly, "I can fix that for you!" So she did. I mean, she corrected the bill and made the refund, and signed me up for the "Pants Club" (which means: when you buy 5 pairs of pants, you get the next pair absolutely FREE!"), AND she gave me a coupon worth $10.00 off my next purchase!! The shop is chalk full of stylish Canadian labels, crafty accessories and handmade lines of jewellery. All of the designers are women and Canadian (many of which are local) which makes this store totally unique in Ottawa. Some cool labels include: Annie 50 and Soit Disant (both out of Montreal) and Dagg & Stacey whose latest collection feature tweeds in collegial cuts. There is also a funky line designed completely out of recycled sweaters! The store environment is inviting and chilled out with nice familial chatting amongst staff and customers. Something else worth noting is the community spirit that the shops on this street seem to have. They all seem to know each other and don't hesitate to recommend a visit to their neighbouring stores for something specific you might be looking for. I find this to be a totally refreshing take on retail and a great reason to visit this store.
