I ordered a pair of glasses and in less then 7 days they called me in, adjusted them and they let me go home with those glasses. The next day I went out of town for the next 2 1/2 weeks and while driving on the freeway my right lens fell out of the frame. We stopped by the nearest Costco and the optical dept. checked the glasses. They tried to tighten the screw but it was still loose. The optician found out that the lens was too small; it did not fit with the frame. I was asked to leave the glasses for 7 days, but of course I said, " NO" as I was in another city. The optician tried her best to temporarily fix the glasses at least so I could use them.
Upon my return home, on 6/23/15 I went back to Aurora Village Costco in Shoreline WA, where I bought the original glasses. I told them the problem, and asked them if it was possible to get a loaner pair of glasses as I was getting headaches without my glasses. The optician immediately responded, "NO! You have to buy another pair." I was not financially able to buy an extra pair of glasses. In addition, this was not my mistake but Costco's error.... it made me feel like Costco did not care about me, the customer, having a headache or not. The optician stated that since it was a re-do job, they could make it faster......maybe 4-7 days. Five days after I placed the order, I called Costco Optical and they basically told me, " DON'T CALL US, WE WILL CALL YOU WHEN THE GLASSES HAVE ARRIVED". So I waited patiently until the 10th day and still nobody called me. Now I was getting impatient....so I called the manager of the Shoreline Costco Optical department and told him my story. He said, "Wait....wait ...let me check if your glasses are here or not....don't hang up...I will be right back with you." Several minutes later he came back on the phone and said, "Oh yes your glasses are here and just come straight here and ask for me (Bill-the manager). Do not take a number, as I will help you right away." I hurried to Shoreline Costco on July 3....so busy everywhere...hard to find a parking space... but finally I got there and asked the optical department for Bill the manager as he had asked me to come in right then and that he would help me immediately. Nobody knew where Bill was. Thus I decided to take a number anyway as perhaps this was faster than waiting for Bill.......Number 32 was on the display and my number was 34 so I thought, "Not bad." When my number was called and I told the optician that I wanted to pick up my glasses, she looked and looked......loooked.......loooooked ......looked, but could not find them. I told them that maybe Bill had them, so the lady tried to find Bill in his office and tried to page him....to page him again.....but no answer. Finally somehow she found my glasses in Bill's special place with a note stating that only Bill could give these glasses to the customer. So nobody could help me except Bill and he had disappeared from the optical department. At one point the lady found him in a different office but he had a special meeting.......so I had to wait for him...waited....waited 10 minutes....15 minutes.... and finally after 20 minutes he showed up with a very unhappy face ......because he had a conversation with one of his employees....possibly a problem. He did not greet me or apologize to me for waiting. He just said, "Samuel?" and started adjusting the glasses. Bill did not say much; it seemed like he had a lot of things on his mind. After finishing all the adjustments, he gave the glasses to me without saying a word. He did not say anything like, "Have a nice day" or "Thanks for coming in". NOTHING! It seemed really odd to me that a customer service person did not say these things anymore.
Therefore I decided to say something to him about the problem. He immediately got very defensive and stated that no one in his department would tell a customer that glasses would be ready in 3-4 days. Everybody knew it took 7-10 days. I agreed and stated again that the optician that originally helped me said possibly 4-7 days because this was a re-do job. The Costco in California told me that the glasses would be finished in 7 days???????????? NOT 10 days?????????
Finally I think this department needs some changes, especially professional customer service representatives who care about each customer's needs. Not making the customer suffer with a headache due to a faulty product and then having the customer jump through so many loops just to get the job redone. read more
