Can't tolerate some of the sample employees. Costco shopping experience is always excellent until my kids want something that they are sampling. Lately it is very often that some of the ladies are purposely withholding or delaying the samples. Today, a young man was sampling out brownies. My son had one piece. My daughter had to wait. He told her to come back in 15 min. We came back & nicely he said 2 more mins. Then shift got switched. The new lady said to us 15 more minutes. I tried to convince a 6 y/o to leave but failed. 10 minutes have passed & the lady said 10 more minutes as people were going by. So, 15 min turned to 35 minutes. We patiently waited with no complaints of course. I have it all on video. Costco should re-evaluate their contract with these people! Or just don't sample out anything. Used to love Costco but their covid practices are less than acceptable. UPC codes up so no contact at registers needed, and multiple staff, three times in a row, have handled my groceries. When today I had three items, every one was touched. Receipts are touched when exiting. Staff pushes carts in by the front, yet only cleans handle. Gas attendants hold the cleaners and stand and chat rather than clean the touch screens. Costco started out being overly cautious and I appreciated that but now I no longer feel they are clean. They started as one of the strictest stores but have relaxed more than I'm comfortable with. read more

I only shop about once a month. I take advantage of the sales on my staples for my pantry and freezer. Good safety for Covid practices and I also sanitize hands and wear a mask.. It works both ways folks! Staff is friendly. Don't liked that I have to find my own boxes. Never had that at the Flagship store in Kirkland, WA. Since Senegal left as CEO they are more lax on packing ones groceries, but I am guessing some is Covid policy changes. I value my Costco experience and savings. Great values! Costco seems to be a step up from Sam's. I'm still not sure how big of a step up but I do prefer their baked goods. The family especially likes their chocolate tuxedo cake and I'm pretty fond of it as well. Very similar to the tuxedo cake at Pasta House but without having to endure mediocre Italian food as a prelude to their dessert tray coming around. Like all of these places, the rotation of inventory can be maddening but you are relatively certain that if you buy their house brand (Kirkland) of something that it will continue to be available. Anything else that you love may or may not be there again on your next visit. I understand their buying strategy but it can get really inconvenient at times. A slice and a soda is a great way to have a quick meal in conjunction with a shopping trip but it is important to remember that their snack bar operates on a cash-only basis. If you don't have cash you will do better on Manchester Rd. at one of those places. Fuzzy's is the first alternative that comes to mind. Parking and ingress/egress to their parking lot can be a complete nightmare. I don't know why the local zoning board ever allowed (or possibly even mandated) such horrible traffic flow. They really need a capital improvement project to fix that mess!!! Price of gas is typically in the lowest tier in the STL area but rarely the least expensive. read more

BEWARE check out guys wear Latex gloves!!! If you have an allergy do not give them your receipt to touch. I almost grabbed it back when I saw the glove and had to relinquish my receipt to him. I believe when in the general public no one should use latex due to the high rate of allergy to substance. I do not fault the gentleman but def need to say something. Optical department woman kept trying to call the blemish a scratch, and refused to call it what it was. Took the glass into Dr. Steele's office (since it is separate from the Optical Department) and was told that it looked like a problem with the coating and that it looks like a manufacturer error. I love, love, love Costcos!!!! They have sooo many great items and deals. Some of my favorite items are the cheese danishes, can't beat a tray for $4.99, they're large, flaky and delicious. The pizza is amazing and $10.73 for a 18in is a steal. The Morton's pot roast is amazing!!!! The mango salsa and jalapeño artichoke dips are wonderful. The pretzel bread with butter is delicious. I frequent this Costco, call me a "regular." I have been often surprised by the level of kindness & "going the extra mile" shown by employees. To provide examples of this: bakery personnel have rescued me when I have placed a cake order incorrectly, cashiers are quick & efficient while also engaging & kind, and front of the store employees insisted on cleaning up when my children broke an item creating a huge embarrassment, mess & expense. I find this store clean, well stocked and well staffed. I also visit Dr Steele in the vision center & find him and his staff to be extra kind, patient and helpful. I highly recommend him if looking for an optometrist. read more

Want to get used to the layout a lot of times items aren't where you would think they would be but the employees are friendly and ready to offer help locating items, all you have to do is ask. Once you get the basic layout figured out it's pretty quick moving through the store. And it's big, which is nice no real areas where it's jammed up waiting around nobody can get through, and bulk purchasing does keep the price down provided you got a place to the nine extra of the thing you only needed one of...lol going to run another day and try and find a tablet seems like they had some deals on them when I was up there last time... read more

I've been a Costco member for almost 2 decades and live in Southern California. There, the employees fall over themselves trying to help you. I visited this one while visiting family and I have to say, it was not like any Costco I've been to. I asked an employee where to find a certain item and he sent me to customer service. They VERY slowly helped the 3 customers in front of me (one for each employee) then, when it was my turn after 12 minutes of waiting, the woman walked away from her register over to another to help a customer that was just walking up! I then just left and asked another employee for help, she pointed 'it might be there'. It wasn't, of course. I finally found another and he just looked at me with a stupid look on his face and said he didn't know. I gave up and while walking out, another employee was very snotty to a person in front of me Once I got to my car, a customer let her cart run into my car. I politely laughed and said, '"It didn't ding it, did it? It's not my car." and she yelled "it's not a big deal!" I was totally easy going about it and even playful even though it's an expensive car with 9,000 miles on it. I really hate to say it, but it seems people here are really lacking in both manners and intelligence. Now, having said that, I've been to nearby areas of downtown St Louis, Central West End, Brentwood, Florissant, Lafayette Square and Tower Grove on this trip, and everyone was extremely nice and seemed bright. Maybe it's a 'county-thing'? Who knows? But, Management would do well to have higher expectations of ethics, manners and customer service for their employees. read more

Every weekend feels like black fri...long lines, crowded parking lot, grouchy patrons. Food samples...forget about it! I have been delighted with Costco during the pandemic! Their deli prepared meals have kept us well fed and happy for nearly two years. LOVE the shepherd's pie and am disappointed that seems to be seasonal. That said, this past week I ordered, for the first time, gorgeous looking chocolate cakes, six small beauties that looked scrumptious and appeared to be entirely sealed. I gave them as a gift and when they were snapped open, a parade of ants came out (happy and well fed!). It is certainly ant season, but this was a surprise! Be sure to check baked goods when you open them, lest you accidently ingest some unanticipated protein with your treat! read more

I cannot stand this place. The lines and people who work here are just ridiculous. I have called a pizza order in here 3 times on my way- giving them a good 20-25 minutes notice. Never has it even been assembled for the oven when I show up. I've stood in line at the food bar, ordered my pizza, shopped for 30 minutes, come back to get my pizza, stood in line again, and come to find they haven't even made it yet or they "gave it away". Today I had to call in AND order it again when I got there and it still wasn't ready 30 min later. I've ordered pizza at the beginning of a shopping trip there 10 times, it was only made and ready to go 30 minutes later 3 of those times. No employee there has ever offered to make it right. I talked to a manager and he didn't give a damn either, just said sorry. Offered no compensation, no excuses or explanation. They are just so disorganized back there. I seriously give up. read more

I have never been to Costco before. My friend who happened to be in town this week decided to take me since she has a membership. She used to have a Sam's membership but switched to Costco. I was thinking about doing the same. But not after today. We went to this location--at 141 near Manchester--since we were already in the area. I bought two bottles of a champagne, a bottle of red wine, a big salmon fillet and a lobster tail since it's almost New Years and I am going to be celebrating with my neighbors. The customer service in the store itself was good when I was picking out champagne and getting the seafood. The champagne lady is actually a contractor so she doesn't even work for Costco but she was super sweet and helpful. I guess that's what saved this from being a 1 star review which is ironic considering the best part of my experience wasn't from a Costco employee.... As soon as we got to the checkout line, that's when everything went downhill. My friend had lost her wallet a few days ago and we've been searching for it ever since. She happened to have her Costco card in her car so that wasn't the issue. But since she wasn't the one PAYING for the alcohol but she IS a member (and I am not) they gave us so much trouble. Obviously if she had her driver's license she would have just paid for the alcohol but she didn't have it on her, and the DMV won't be open until Tuesday, I had to pay. And it was for me anyway! So that's beside the point. It was mostly the way they handled the situation that pissed me off. We were in the checkout line and there was a ton of people behind us, so I felt extra annoyed that the checkout guy was so douchy about it. He was flat out rude to me and my friend, and gave us a lecture about how she needed her ID because she was the one with the Costco card and not me and blah blah blah and why didn't we know about that, etc. etc.?! Also he was totally careless on purpose and knocked over all three bottles of not-so-cheap champagne and wine. This was blatant neglect because I could tell he was being pissy about it. He had to call over some other guy who didn't look like a manager just another clerk and was like "you deal with them." WOW. Uh thanks? Is this really how you treat your customers? Both guys avoided making eye contact with us and constantly had this look of disgust like we just kicked their puppy or something. I am NOT getting a Costco membership after this because I do not want to deal with rude cashiers. The cashiers at Sam's have never given me trouble when I was using my membership for a friend who wanted to buy alcohol. Maybe it's just their policy but the way they handled the situation was TERRIBLE. They even made it seem like they were doing us a favor by letting me pay for it. AND on top of that I wasn't ALLOWED to use my debit card for the booze, just for the food. Thank God I had enough cash on me. I think I saw an ATM so I could have always gone to their ATM to get cash but that would have held up the whole line behind us and made everyone mad. And I told him to put the food on my debit card because I wanted to have cash in my wallet and he went and only put half of it on there which depleted my cash supply. The only option for cash back was $20 on the screen which also annoyed me. Is that normal to only have the option of 20 for cash back? Or am I just hallucinating? Some of the worst customer service I've had in a while. Obviously it pissed me off because I felt the need to Yelp about it--not just something to shrug off. I am hoping that if I ever go to the Costco in St. Peters that the people who work there are friendlier about things. Also the food and wine itself from Costco is not bad at all, so it's not like I have issues with the products--just the people. So, I figured I'd better trade in my Sam's Membership for one at this raved about establishment, even though neither location is on my beaten path. I trekked out to West County---just getting to the Costco Parking lot from Manchester is a little bit of madness. I took a couple of wrong turns and ended up in other parking lots before I made it to the top of the hill. Getting to the membership desk was a hassle. I went in the Entrance. Was told to go through the Exit. Waited in line for a bit. Super friendly manager-guy asks me a bagillion questions that at first seemed conversational and then I realized they were set ups for the upsells in membership he was going to make e.g. how many people in your family, what do you like to shop for, etc, etc. The whole process took what seemed like eons. I had to listen to info about insurance, travel, prescriptions, etc. FINALLY, as we're getting to the end, I realize that the only way to pay is with cash or THEIR AMERICAN EXPRESS card! What? No Mastercard? No Visa? I said, "Sorry. You've lost me!" And left. I know you can write checks---but the whole sign up process felt so hassle-heavy that I figured I won't know what I'm missing. read more

I am reviewing the optical dept which I am sure is chaotic in all their stores. There is no rhyme or reason to their queue. The sales people (2) had to keep verifying with themselves and the waiting customers who was before who. I asked why on earth there was not a numbering system and the salesperson snapped back that they tried but it didn't work. ?????? How can a numbering system not work??? I hate this store. One thing that I truly hate about this store and think that it's nasty and disgusting are the birds flying around inside the store. I don't appreciate being randomly bombed with bird shit, or picking up something in the store that has bird shit on it. It can be a problem with the bread because every once in awhile, I find something where it's obvious that a bird pecked at it. Management doesn't seem able to eliminate them or perhaps they don't care enough to do something about it. Their bird situation is truly disgusting. UPDATE 12/16: Somehow, they got rid of the birds. Last time that I was there, they were gone. Some managers there on different occasions are not helpful and rude. Some of them are outright bitchy. Other managers are very helpful and that if few and far between. Some of them act like they are God's gift to the world. The regular employees like the cashier clerks are nice and helpful, but some of the managers act like they have got the sense that God gave a green grape. The merchandise that they have depends on what they bring in and what they want there, it seems. The prices are too expensive when they can be bought for less at other stores that are not Costco. The only reason to go there would be to buy something that they have that no one else has in there store. Quite often than not, they leave pallets of merchandise on the ends of the aisles which are stacked three and four pallets tall and that creates traffic jams when customers are trying to go through there. I think that doing something like that is an OSHA violation. The best part of this Costco is that the gas is less expensive than any of the other gas stations in the general area. If you must shop there, beware. Watch out for rude and ignorant managers and beware of congestions near the pallets at the end of the aisles, especially when it's busy and other people are trying to get through. Otherwise, avoid this place all together. read more

I love Costco! yeah that's right even a twenty something year old loves Costco!!! I Always have and always will. I always had a membership in CA and when I moved out here, I was devastated (dramatic) that the closest Costco to me was 25 ish minutes away..I settled for a Sams Club membership and I only have one word to describe that membership "NIGHTMARE" Once our membership expired we bought a Costco membership despite the drive and locations. We typically go on on the weekend, every other week. This location is clean and organized. The people that work here are always very friendly and helpful. I like the quality of the Kirkland brand a lot. It exceeds my expectations and the price is easy on my wallet. I like that Costco carries gluten free snacks and food options that I can buy in bulk. Its easy to spend a few hundred dollars coming here but for me Its worth it. We buy our dog food from here too because they carry a grain free version that is equivalent to Taste of the Wild. If you are looking for Almond Butter, Costco carries the big jars for $7.00. You get more for the price compared to the jars at Dierburgs or Trader Joe's. We did splurge and got the executive membership because every time we came here we would spend $100+ so it was just worth it to get the executive card because of the cash back insensitive. Clearly, I love this place given the number of times I am here every week and the amount of money I spend. Let me tell you what I love about Costco..... As a wine lover I can tell you that Costco is a great place to buy wine. They have what is tantamount to a wine shop within the store; a really nice wine shop. I have purchased some really great wines here that are not your run of the mill, I can buy it at Shop N Save or Schnucks wines. Costco has a wine program that is very sophisticated in having the pulse on what is trendy and what people are buying. They carry some expensive wines and some inexpensive wines. They even have their own label, Kirkland, that I have tried and it is really high quality. Wine aside, I love Costco for other reasons too. They have some food items that I don't find at other places that are wonderful such as Chicken Florentine Burgers, Jalapeño Yogurt Dip, wonderful REAL Mashed Potatoes, Rotisserie Chicken ready to eat. While everything is sold in large portions, if you like the product and use it regularly this isn't a problem. They also have some wonderful deals on household items, home furnishings, lawn & garden, electronics, clothing, gasoline & produce. In addition to having wonderful merchandise they have great practices as an employer. They pay their people well, have hours that allow the employees to have a life, and provide great benefit packages. The employees always seem happy and are very helpful and hard working. They also have really great samples throughout the store while you shop. Costo offers services like automotive, travel, cabinet installation, window treatments (Blinds through Hunter Douglass) and garage doors. If I had to compare Costco and Sams Club I would say that Costco is the Ritz Carlton and Sam's Club is the Holiday Inn. Get a membership at Costco! You will be glad you did. read more

Multiple lines, no organization whatsoever, people cutting in front of me and trying to avoid getting run over by people pushing full carts going out the door. I *hate* disorganization like that! I sucked it up and made it through the line and the masses of people. Then I spent way too much money on things I never knew I needed three dozen of. The credit card roulette game is getting old. I never minded that they only take Amex as I already had one of those but now they are forcing Visa? Pay on March 31, 2016 and you can only use Amex, pay on April 1, 2016 and you can only use Visa. Sorry, not getting a new credit card every time you find a better deal.....time to move on. Additionally in September we renewed our membership (and they didn't bother to tell us we would not be able to buy anything after March). They charged our card but did not actually renew the membership, went in to shop today and got "sorry, your membership has expired, please go wait in the DMV style line at membership while your food spoils". This is my Costco. Always a decent enough experience. This is where I buy basics like diapers, tp, paper towels, dog food. Want an enormous bag of Doritos? (Who doesn't?) They have it! $4 something! Also, as parents of an 8 month old, Costco cheese pizzas (4 pack, $9.99) have been lifesavers. Quick and really, really tasty! Annoyed, however, that they evidently stopped selling Homerun Inn pizzas which are 100% fact the best frozen pizzas and literally one of the driving forces behind us getting a membership. BOOOO! Bring back the Homerun Inns! Bring back the Homerun Inns! Other good buys: beer Tropicana orange juice kefir Oh! And please do try Costco bakery's chocolate chip cookies. You will never condescend to eat another Chips Ahoy or Keebler again. In fact, you will scoff at them, make fun of them and make them feel 2 inches tall....er....1/2 an inch tall! I'm a Costco-head fer-sure. I really like this Costco and ever since it opened down the road from my go-to hotel in St. Louis - well, in Fenton/Valley Park - we usually stop in for a few staples, or for gas, or just to check it out just because we are COSTCO-HEADS. First impression....wow, what a big parking lot - we don't have to fight people for a parking spot! Me likes - me likes very much...well, except for this one woman who gave me the crook-eye cause I was in her way, everyone else has been very nice (like most people in the LOU) and this store is so nice and clean and they give really good BIG samples - on this particular trip we got some cinnamon rolls with Cinnabon frosting samples - YUM, and being the suckers that we are, we bought two containers! This was the first Costco we went to that had self check out - years before the Chicago area started bringing it to their stores. I love it! Sometimes walking around this very organized, very prettied up and manicured Costco - I feel like I am on the Stepford Wives set .... but I guess that's better than what I feel when I go to the crazy cuckoo Costcos in my area where people are rude, there are no parking spots, lines are crazy and I just want to rip my hair out right? read more
