I am writing to express my disappointment with the customer service I received during my visit to…read moreThe Optical Center today. A couple of weeks ago, I visited your store and was assisted by Chelsea. That experience was outstanding. She took the time to carefully select several frames for me to try on, made recommendations based on fit, and provided the kind of attentive service every customer hopes to receive. There was also another friendly gentleman at the front desk who, at Chelsea's request, looked up my records from when Jeff Lees owned and managed The Optical Center. I mentioned to Chelsea that I had purchased several pairs of glasses from Jeff years ago when I lived in the Firestone area. I also explained that I now live in Highlands Ranch, over an hour away, and had driven all the way to Longmont because of the positive experiences I had previously enjoyed at your store. After narrowing my choices to a couple of frames, Chelsea told me she would contact me with the frame details and pricing. A few days later, Chelsea called me at work and asked whether I could come in that Friday. I explained that I couldn't make it that day but that I would come the following Saturday while the shop was open. When I arrived today, however, the experience was completely different. The moment I walked through the door, I was met with one of the coldest receptions I have ever received from a retailer. Chelsea's facial expression and tone were noticeably unwelcoming. Thinking perhaps she didn't recognize me, I greeted her and said, "Hi Chelsea, I'm XXX XXXXX, the gentleman you spoke with on the phone a few days ago who was interested in purchasing the frames you selected for me." Even after introducing myself, her demeanor did not change. Having driven over an hour to your store, I asked if I could use the restroom. Instead of allowing me to take a few steps through the small office area to the restroom--as I had done in the past when Jeff Lees owned the business--I was instructed to leave the optical center, walk all the way around through the hallway, and enter from another direction because the office area was "for staff only." While I understand businesses have policies, the interaction itself felt unnecessarily cold and unaccommodating. When I returned from the restroom, the interaction became even more uncomfortable. Without any greeting or welcoming attitude, I was asked, "What do you want? Do you want to see the glasses or what?" At that point, I was genuinely taken aback. I found myself wondering what had changed since my previous visit. I had come prepared to purchase one or possibly two pairs of glasses, but after being treated in such an unfriendly and dismissive manner, I simply said I would think about it and left. I work hard for my money, and I choose to spend it with businesses that appreciate their customers. There are many excellent optical shops much closer to my home that provide friendly, respectful service. Unfortunately, because of today's experience, The Optical Center has lost a loyal repeat customer. Please remove me from your email list, delete my phone number and contact information from your records, and do not contact me in the future. I wanted to share this feedback because the difference between my first visit and today's visit was so dramatic that I felt management should be aware of it. My hope is that no other customer has an experience similar to mine.

Though we could not fix my expensive Silhouette frames due to the risk of making them worse, Sara brought them to the back to try and also checked to see if they had an extra temple they could replace it with. Being an out of towner I was not sure what to expect and I can tell you that the service was exceptional, friendly and professional. We had the frames wearable until I was able to get back home to order the new temple. If I was in Boulder long enough, they would have done it for me there, but this happened on my last day in Boulder before heading into the mountains.

I can't remember where or how I first came across silhouette brand glasses frames, but I fell in…read morelove. While they offer a variety of styles, my favorites are the frameless with titanium sides. These are comfortable, diminutive, and stand up to accidents like sitting on them (they bend but do not break). They also are pricey. I had a pair a couple of years ago, and when my prescription changed, I decided to go to Costco and find some attractive frames for a good price. The problem is that these more traditional frames BOTHER me EVERY DAY. Plastic gathers sweat and grime at the nose. Metal is particularly rigid and more uncomfortable. I can see the edges of the frames in my view, which doesn't really impact my vision so much, but it makes the world less real. So, when I finally had the opportunity to get another new set of glasses with a new prescription, I went on the hunt for Silhouettes. It is not easy to find a place that deals with Silhouettes, but I knew that Aspen Eyewear sold them. As it is difficult to comparison shop eyeglasses, or even shop around, really, I noted the expected high price of a frame I liked at Aspen, enlisted the help of a knowledgeable assistant, and decided on a gorgeous frame. When we sat down to pull together the necessary additions--anti-glare, anti-scratch, transitions, etc., they put a quote in front of me. More than double the high cost of the frame! Yes, I did a double-take, my jaw dropped, I took a large GULP. I guess he could read my reaction, because the assistant asked if that price was OK, and if not, maybe we could consider dropping some of the add-ons. I asked him if there were any silhouettes on the clearance table, or if they ever go on sale, and the answer was "no". I know what I want, and this is apparently what it costs, so on we went with the purchase. After reading Aspen Eyewear's Yelp reviews, where many talk about their high cost, I started to wonder if it would have been worth my time to comparison shop the one other place nearby that I found that carries Silhouettes. But, you know what? This frame is an expensive frame. The lenses are definitely quality lenses, and I've been wearing the glasses now for two months, and I LOVE them. I got what I wanted, and I'm happy I did it. The people that helped me at Aspen Eyewear were very nice. They were knowledgable about the product(s) and how they fit different people, spent the time with me that was necessary, and no inappropriately long wait times. My only suggestion is that they provide a bit more detail with regard to glasses care when you pick up your purchase from them. I think there are some special instructions and care required for Silhouettes, which I kind of expected them to go through with me. Also, how do I get a lens completely shiny new clean? I have always struggled with this, and I found some Zeiss lens cleaners that I thought must be perfect, given that Zeiss is a prominent lens maker for premium products. Upon further research, it seems that they have alcohol in them which can damage the coatings I paid so much money for on these lenses. Also, I have no warranty information, although one associate mentioned to me in passing something about a 60-day lens replacement (I think). I have no documentation of this, and nothing is mentioned online, so if I damage my lenses in the first 60 days, due to ignorance, do I have the opportunity to try again? I don't know. Conclusion: Aspen Eyewear is not the budget eyeglass vendor, but they do offer a premium product with premium lines that are difficult to find elsewhere. If you want a premium eyeglasses product, Aspen Eyewear is worth a visit.

Last week I dropped in with my goggles as I'd had some issues with the lenses over this past winter. To be honest I hadn't done the best job keeping them safe while commuting to/from the mountain so the lenses had started to pop out every now and then. Apparently my #1 ski buddy did too good of a job popping the lenses back in at the end of last season as the staffers couldn't find a single thing wrong with them. Thankfully I had dropped in because Zeal was running 50% off of many awesome goggles. The staff shared which was their fave (of the sale goggles), I snagged a pair that caught my eye and the trying on began. I settled on a pair with a flashy purple band and sashayed on up to the register. It must have been my lucky day as the goggles also came with an alternate lens. I was thankful to be told the options along with what each alternate lens would best be used for. I settled on a pair for those snowy low visibility days. Score! Took my new goggles out for a spin the following day and am happy to report that they certainly delivered (and I looked pretty cool too)!

I wear them all the time for good eye protection outdoors. The sunglasses do a good job of not muting or changing colors too much outdoors and the polarization is good at looking at water. I love the ski goggles I got here as well! The lenses automatically change colors depending on the outdoor conditions and are amazing quality. My mom recently accidentally broke a really old pair from here and they replaced them for free with a new model because they don't sell the ones she had anymore. The service is awesome and I wouldn't buy sporty eyewear from anywhere else.

The new lenses were a little off. They made me a little dizzy walking around with them. I told the optician my concerns, but her responses were repeatedly a dismissive "weird" and "interesting." Only saying they were the same prescription. Fine, but I could not see as well as the original ones. Even after I mentioned that I've had glasses not right at other places, they had been able to adjust them perfectly, and could she try that? She made a slight adjustment to the nose piece and told me to wear the lenses for a few days. That was silly, as I should be able to see through them as perfectly as the originals...and they made me dizzy! The fact that she was so unwilling to help was incredibly frustrating. Ultimately, I had to refuse the new lenses and have my old ones put back in. Her immediate "okay" showed a complete lack of concern. I am disappointed that spending $700 gets me this kind of customer service. If I could have seen clearly, I obviously would have walked away with them. I drove from Boulder to get them. She was completely unconcerned that these did not work for me. Glasses are expensive. Go somewhere where your vision is important to them.
