A good stop after getting the rental car! Our primary focus for going to Costco on vacation was to buy a 36 pk of water It's so much cheaper to buy a case of water at Costco, than buying individual bottles at the store. At the end of our trip we only had 3 bottles of water left! Knowing that we couldn't get it past airport security, we gave the remaining bottles to the hotel front desk to enjoy. Anyway, the store itself doesn't differ too much from your average Costco. In the front of the store they have all kinds of Hawaiian favorites like candy leis, cookies, macadamia nuts, senbei (rice crackers), popcorn, etc. They also have the Kauai Coffee in the 24 oz size for $15.99. This really is a great place to get souvenirs. In the refrigerated section they have an aisle dedicated to Portuguese sausage and also a variety of poke. I wish my Costco back home was like this! read more

Can't beat Costco prices ! Definitely cheapest on the island, especially compared to Safeway. Load up on all the groceries, liquor and even souvenirs here! Make sure you also pick up a golden pineapple! It's only three dollars here. Souvenirs ranged from coffee to macadamia nuts, Hawaiian host chocolates, shortbread cookies, etc They also have furikake shrimp chips! Yummmm. Everything you would need for a lovely time on the beach. Beer, snacks, and even ice (pay for it at the checkout and pick it up from the freezer right before the exit.) I didn't see the hot dogs from the inside. They're on the outside. I just missed seeing them because I had snacks and drinks on my brain. Was hard to pass up those great deals on fancy TVs and sofa sets but somehow I persevered. The book selection had some interesting gems that weren't available back home. Kauai, I wish i could support your crazy marked up prices, but when costco is so close, it's not easy. I often find things here that are either cheaper for a larger size of the same product, or cost less and you get two of something! ORGANIC? I buy a lot of organic staples here for the house, and it's great for dinner parties and dry or frozen goods that will keep. Organic rice and quinoa, small sustainable canned fish, organic mango and berries and veggies. There's even some huge containers of nuts and oils (I highly recommend making your own nut butters. It's about 1/4 of the price of buying a sloshy, separated nut butter container from a natural food store. PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING YOU BUY HERE IS AS CHEAP AS YOU WILL FIND IT ON KAUAI! That being said, I still support my farmers markets twice a week, have a CSA farm box and hit up Healthy Hut, Hoku, and Papaya's on a pretty regular basis (and Foodland for the poke.) (Note that this review is only for the food inside costco, and not the hot dogs and pizza outside! Yuck! My opinion.) read more

This is the only Costco in Kauai, and it is always packed. The cost of living in Kauai is pretty high, but Costco is a saving grace for that. The prices, including the rotisserie chicken and food court, are on par with other Costco stores on the mainland. There is a great selection of items, and there is a section in the back with local food products. There is also fresh poke here, and it is super delicious and is the cheapest on the island. Gift items are abundant in bulk here too. Choose from a bunch of different chocolates from the well-known names such as Hawaiian Host, Mauna Loa, or Hawaiian Sun. Stock up on Kauai Coffee or boxes of Kauai Kookie. Pick up some aloha shirts or sarongs. Also, the gas station here is the cheapest on the island. At times, the gas station is a dollar a gallon less than anywhere else. Whether you are a local or tourist, Costco is the place for you to shop at. read more

My family and I have a problem and we visit any local Costco we can find no matter where we go. This Costco was no exception, it was a must stop when we got to the island. It's true that every Costco has different selections than your local one at home. This one is super crowded all the time as it's the only one on the island. They sell liquor inside this one and there are unique Hawaiian finds as well as your standard selection. The amount of seafood/poke here is amazing as well. There are a ton of Macadamia Nut selections in the snack area and it's by far the best price on the island. We happened to be there when some of the snacks were on sale during the coupon book period so it was even a better deal. I would recommend stocking up on your snacks/treats to take home here, it's the best deal you will find. They also so swimwear and sarongs for a better deal than the shops around town. There are deals and unique finds here for sure. The parking can be a bit of a hassle but it's worth it. read more

Why did the rooster cross the road? Because it was in Kauai. It's bizarre that instead of pigeons, it's roosters and chickens that wander around in the parking lots. As for the shopping, given the other reviews, I had to come check it out. It's cool seeing the Hawaiian flavor of products here - so yes, you will find your Hawaiian shirts and all things chocolate + macadamia nut. (They have Hersey kisses here with macadamia nut ... have never seen those before.) They also have poke in the meat / cooked food section. Costco is as good as it gets everywhere, but I think Hawaii deserves a special shout out. A 1/2 gallon of Kirkland vodka (comparable to Sky) was $14.99 and 24 packs of soda were $10.99. I didn't buy one drink at the resort, thanks to Costco! The rest of the prices were exactly the same as Oregon, with the exception of the specialty items. Note: I did not see a food counter. Costco - awesome as ever, only this one's special sweetness is multiplied by its presence in an overpriced paradise. I could have spared myself the hassle and extra baggage fees ($50 round trip!) and bought all of my camping gear here and at Walmart. Especially good deals for this location - gas (damn $$$ in HI) and bread (for some reason it's ridiculously expensive here, but at Costco you can get 2 close-to-artisan-style loaves for what you'd pay for one loaf of blah sliced bread elsewhere.) Oh, also they have wholesale multipacks of the "sucks you couldn't go to Hawaii like me but here's a box of macadamia chocolates" for the relatives/co-workers - definitely the place to stock up on your way to the airport. SPECIAL TIP FOR NON-MEMBERS: the food court at this Costco is outside, which means you can get the usual $1.50 polish dog + soda without showing a costco card! A must if you are time-sharing it or don't want to spend 50 bucks plus a day solely on food. The people here are super chill..back in the Silicon Valley/ Santa Cruz folks get pissy when standing in line. Not the case here. People say please, thank you and you're welcome.. I am not used to being treated so well in a Costco... usually it is each man, woman and child for themselves and their shopping cart. There were tons of seaweed salad, udon and other API food options here... made me insanely jealous....and insanely hungry... HURRY UP ALREADY SO WE CAN GET BACK AND EAT! This is your booze shop...everywhere else you go for alcohol is HELLA EXPENSIVE.. ridiculously so.... just remember... you are not on the mainland so everything is a million times more expensive.. I don't know if I have ever been t a costco that I don't like! Unlike regular costcos, this one is super easy to shop at as the island of Kauai is relatively relaxed. Perfect place to stock up on food if you are a family and staying in a condo! What can I say? It's a Costco- buy everything your frugal, deal-seeking heart desires! Including hideously cheap alcohol, TP and unnecessary junk food by the pallet. This location is clean, relatively well-run, and well-stocked. Our only complaint is that the receipt checkers (one in specific, with grey hair) take their jobs a bit TOO seriously and insist on taking 5-10 minutes interrogating every person that has the displeasure of going to her line. I saw this offender reduce a mother of two kids to tears because she couldn't SEE one item that was in the cart on the receipt, only to be told that she was entirely misreading the item name on the receipt. We almost stepped in to intervene, but her power trip was thankfully interrupted by another bystander. When corrected, she just played it off like she saved the company SO much money by doing this. Anyways....I understand loss prevention as much as the next guy but why don't we need to teach staff to put customer service before micro-management? read more

On the Mainland or in Kaua'i Costco is all around the best place to shop for bulk items! We stayed in Kaua'i for a week and rented a condo in Princeville. Several people had suggested to stop at Costco and stock up on items there. I am so glad we did! Costco had everything we needed for reasonable prices and just the perfect amount of stuff to last us for the week. I am absolutely obsessed with Aloha drinks. They sell a case of 24 for $18.99. I drank them all week long they were amazing. They had so much Hawaiian made items at very reasonable prices. Lots of Hawaiian clothes and souvenirs. We picked up a gallon of milk for just a little over $4 which was cheaper by about a $1 than other stores in the area. Gas was much cheaper here too. We paid $2.88 a gallon and the Chevron right next door was $3.33. The Costco is very close to the airport which was very convenient for filling up our rental car before returning it. We also would fill up here when we were close because it was overall much more expensive on the island. Tons of spots to stop and get samples of food and drinks. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a snack area outside with hotdogs, salads, pizza, drinks and ice cream. read more

If you're staying for the week definitely start off by stopping by this Cosco. Got a great deal on lobster tails, fish and meats. Definitely want to buy your dairy here because the price is good. I bought a really good pineapple grown in Hawaii so sweet and delicious nothing like you get in the states. If you want to eat local visit the farmers market to buy your vegetables and fruits but they do have local honey that's really good from the flower only grown there. Pretty much the same as cost goes go except the parking lot is really hard to figure out how to get into. If you didn't get enough here and you don't wanna buy Super Bowl for the week you could go across to the Safeway and there's also a Starbucks in there. If you get your gas here it's a bit cheaper but do remember the line gets long so be prepared that could totally be worth it. read more

I stopped in to get gas and had to backtrack ce from the store to get to the gas station, which is actually on the home depot lot. Maybe I was just in the sun too long, hehe. The lines weren't too long but there was really nothing special going on here, except the gas was ten cents a gallon less than the next cheapest and over twenty cents less than the average. read more

Gross!!!! This store smells like cat pee and mold. It is always a zoo to park in the parking lot to get in and check out of the store. People are so desperate for whatever they are buying in bulk amounts that there are no regard for other people. It's unfortunate that this is the only major chain grocery store on the island! It's interesting because everyone who's heard my complaint has a bad story in return. I don't know what's up these employees butts but maybe they need a token of appreciation or maybe they need to drain at least half of their staff. Anyways with covid-19 were all aware of every stores precaution but gd these workers LOVE to scream at you when you're a centimeter too close or we need to leave the toilet paper "IN THE BASKET!" I had to get my tires filled and asked an employee when i made my appointment over the phone where i should enter & he said "enter through the exit just let staff know you're going to tire service" and so I did just that. The lady stopped me (after just telling her where I'm going) asking me what I'm doing at tire service and asked if i was getting a battery because i had a cart and I explained i needed a spare tire + my scheduled appointment. i'm 10 ft from tire service and a different employee yelled from the exit "Aye you! " I turned and she said "You cannot just come through here, you need to let an employee know." I said "I did" and she replied "you need to let an employee know" I just turned around and walked to my appointment, obviously that conversation was going nowhere. Tire appointment was at 11, they call me at 1145 saying they just got the car in, I'm already done shopping and i have frozen items. Anyways, i don't get my car back until 12:30, since when does it take an hour in a half to fix a leaky tire? You don't think my time is valuable? I seriously have 5 other personal stories, all too long to post. Basically, please tell your employees if they hate working there so much they can find another job, stop yelling at the customers we don't work for you we don't know every single rule of yours and even if we do follow them we still get snapped at, also if you close at 8:30 and we come to the register at 8:10, aunty, don't be throwing my things. You cracked my eggs AND my marinara sauce. I didn't even return those faulty goods because i don't want to deal with all the salty employees. Theres been story after story and personal experiences, one after the other where employees just scream at customers, I've seen them do it to a pregnant woman and an old couple, like jeezus! take a chill pill! you guys chose to work at costco, NOT US, not the people who is giving them a job. Were ALL in this pandemic, not just you costco! We just went through check out and we had ARGEA Y. As our cashier. As we tried to check out she scanned our membership card as my other half was gonna pay she refused to let him pay stating it was my membership but we are under the same membership & we are a couple purchasing items for our household. Also ARGEA didn't even look at the photo behind assuming it was me. I know a lot of people going through checkout lines and not using their cards but using someone else's. Overall with ARGEA Y she wasn't very costumer friendly or knowledgeable in what she was trying to do. read more

Costco is even more clutch in Kauai with the high food prices - especially at hotels. $5 for the bottle of water at the hotel, or $6 for a case of water at Costco. $11 for a margarita at the hotel bar, or $9 for a bottle of premixed margarita at Costco. Even better you get some of the local flavor - taro chips made in hawaii, lomi-lomi salmon, kauai coffee company beans, etc. You can even skip packing and stop in for your sunglasses, swimsuits, shorts, etc! Costco was surprisingly not too busy on a Saturday too, totally painless as opposed to home where you need a cowcatcher on the front of your cart to make it through the crowds. read more

The price for food in bulk is the same here as the Costco on the mainland, which is good because if you go into a grocery store, you may find the prices a little bit higher (pending on what you're buying though. For example, a carton of ice cream at the grocery store can be over $10 versus in Cali, it's half that price when it's not on sale). We were shopping for just 2 of us, so we didn't get much; however, shop here if you have more mouths to feed. read more

You can't beat the options inside the store. I love Costco. The one thing that concerned me was the checkout process as you leave the store. I have NEVER had a Costco employee go through and count every item in my cart and then tally each item on my receipt. I went their on three different occasions and it happened each time. Seriously?!?! I read an article a while ago about the receipt checkout service and it is supposedly to make sure you got all of the discounts on featured items. I would say that is a solid NO. Wow a Costco nestled in the tropical mountains of Kauai and not crowded! Pick up all your food for your trip here. Stocked up on bottled water and drinks along with al the Hawaiian specialty items such as poke and all the varieties. Poke wasabi, poke spicy mayonnaise, Hawaiian Mac Salad....
