Whether you're taking Uber or driving your own car, just getting to and from work adds up fast, especially with a long commute from Wahiawa to Kapolei and Waikīkī traffic. Plus, I love driving around the island casually like I'm still living in Texas. 30 minute commutes are normal for me. Costco Wholesale is my gas station of choice because it's usually about $10 cheaper to fill up compared to other spots. If you've got the membership, you might as well use it. The wild part is I filled up two days ago for $67... and here we are again. Living far from work + frequent stops + island traffic = $400-$500 a month just in gas. Long story short: island life is beautiful, but gas is expensive. Costco helps with that. read more

Costco Kapolei gas station This review is for the Costco gas station at the Kapolei Costco store. It is on the opposite end of Costco, away from the Costco store's warehouse. As with all other Costco gas stations, you'll need to be a Costco member in order to use this facility. Generally, Costco gas prices are the same across the island of Oahu and are significantly cheaper than regular gas stations. If you are on a trip and are a Costco member, you will be allowed to fill your vehicle here too. They sell 87 and 92 octane gas here. I've been coming here for gas for years. It is a large yet smaller facility than the Iwilei operation in Kalihi. What makes it smaller is there are two gassing stations (for lack of a better name) at either side of each fill line rather than three but it does look like if needed, they could add more stations. You put your membership card into the gassing machine and then your payment card (which must be a debit card). If your membership card is your payment card, then you just continue on to press the gas octane you want and put the fill nozzle into your vehicle's gas reservoir. The digital display explains all that you are to do. They now have nozzles that will autostop to help customers not have to depress the fill level the entire time the gas is filling. There are at least a couple of a few gas attendants walking around ensuring that gas fill problems are quickly resolved. Call to them if you need their help. Once done, you return the gas nozzle back to the fill machine, close your gas tank reservoir cover, and return back to the machine display where it will ask if you want a receipt to be generated. Once you retrieve your receipt, you are free to go. Always nice and clean, spic and span. There are large trash receptacles at each gas line at the center areas. If the entire line appears to be finished about the same time, the drivers will wait for both vehicles ahead to vacate the line so they can drive into the furthest or first gas station. Pull up to the line depending on the side that your gas tank reservoir is on, and wait for the ppl ahead of you finish self-filling their cars. Kapolei Costco Gas my personal favorite out of the 3 on Oahu. Very clean, equipment very well maintained and clean. Quality of gas is comparable to name brands. Their regular gas is Ethanol free! Premium still has the Ethanol. Price is lower than the major gas stations. They're undergoing renovations for the next 40 days. Looks like they're adding more pumps and extending the canopy. Should reopen early November. read more

Out of the three Costco Gasoline Stations on this island, Kapolei's prices are supposed to be lower than Honolulu's and Waipahu's prices. There were 8 lines of 2 pumps each = 16 pumps There are no indicator lights (above) to tell you which pump is open... just get into any line and take your turn! Everyone cooperated and moved along. More so than ever don't let this place pass you by, though unlike it's cray cray townie cousin this more laid back location it's much cheaper and is right next to the warehouse has it's line different using the parking lot so you need to be aware of where which line is which if this is your first time lol! Not sure what the whole hype is. There is always a huge line here so after a few years as a member I was passing by and needed gas and there was no line so I was like time to find out! You have to swipe your Costco card first then credit card (Visa only) then pick your gas. They only have regular and premium. Also, the prices are the same as Safeway without having to pay for a membership. And Safeway has ways to lower gas prices through a rewards program and offers other types of gas. read more

My main goal is to avoid waiting in line, and I've managed to figure out the best times. I've visited this location twice now - once last night before closing and this morning at 10 AM. Evenings seem to be the best since there's less traffic all around, but 10 AM wasn't too bad either. I just discovered that Costco gasoline opens at 5 AM, but the attendant mentioned there's already a line by then with about a 15-minute wait. I'll stick to going at 10 AM or in the evening since those times have been consistently quick. It's convenient for me since the location is close to my new house. I mean they are all the same right? #1 Here they have a minimum of 8 gas lanes on both sides. #2 There's always a long line and there's no convenience store to pop into for snacks. I know you read my Sam's Club review. #3 Slide in your Costco membership card before your CC. Cash and AX not accepted. You can honk your horn for assistance. In my case, my Costco card is digital so I need the attendant to swipe their Costco card for me to use the pump. Yes I'm the reason for the long lines. I've made it a routine to stop here every other weekend morning after walking the lagoons at Ko'Olina. What's really good are prices are generally 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon than a normal gas station. They also open early - 530am weekdays and 6am on weekends. Perfect time for when I'm done walking and before grabbing some groceries at Foodland. The best thing about this location vs. the other Costco Gasoline locations is that the lines are always shorter, no matter what time of day you get here. There are 8 lanes to choose from and even in the middle of the day, you usually have no more than to cars waiting in a lane. In town? Funk Dat! The lines to wait are commonly all the way to entrance off the street. When I get here early on the weekends, I always pull straight up to a pump. Nice. One thing that irks me, which is not the fault of the station, is that it seems 90% of cars have their gas filler spout on the driver's side of the car like mine. That means everyone is looking for the pump that's on the driver's side. Costco gasoline will always rate higher for me solely because it's less expensive then the other gas competitors. It's not unusual the lines this morning were long, assuming people are off and have time to fill up their tanks! Usually I'm either pumping on a weekday whether it's the Kapolei or Waipio locations. Overall, there's no discrepancy for any visit I visit the local Costco to fill my tank! On a side note, the supreme and regular gas prices are cheaper than "on base" or where you have to be military to even step foot onto the facility. If you are wise, choose Costco instead. Costco is one the best things to come to the West Side. The hours of operation works well for most who frequently purchase gas here and although the lines are long they move pretty quickly. Plus if you use your Costco Citi Bank card you can get cash back at the end of the year. That's a BIG +. I put gas in my truck every weekend at Costco. The price is good and I like earning cash back. There are two gas pumps on four islands. Each gas pump services two vehicles. Costco members are able to purchase their gas cheap since it's non ethanol gas. Most gas stations outside of Costco has ethanol and a bit more expensive. My first time at Costco Gasoline in Kapolei I was with my pops. It was in the early evening before heading out to Ewa Beach. Costco gas is always the lowest priced on the island. But might not be the most convenient. Kapolei, Waipio, and Honolulu are the only gas stations I know of on island so being near one when you need it... doesn't always happen. Since I'm always in the Kapolei area, this is my second most used location. This location and the Waipio locations have the best layout for the gas station. Unlike the Honolulu location, there's lots of space within the lot to form a queue and not have to hang out on the main road. It's pretty much the same as other locations, only cards are accepted. The lines at this Costco station aren't as long as the one in Iwilei. I counted 16 pumps. They have some of the best rates on the island. It was $1.99/$2.19 for today. I can't remember the last time gas was under $2. They don't accept cash. It's debit or credit card only. They take only certain credit cards. Right now, it's American Express. However, two months from now Costo will terminate their contract with AMEX. I believe they will be using Visa or MasterCard instead. You also need to have a Costco membership. read more
