I live in Sumter and drive here once a week. What's not to love about Costco. Weekends have bigger crowds. The Bakery does a job with cakes. They need to bring back whipped frosting. The wine selection has a variety to choose from. Wine tasting different labels help with purchasing something new. Totally love this. I wish it was closer but it's not. read more

My husband and I love Costco and shop there at least once a week unless we are out of town. Today made the second time I had the most shameful times of them all. I was seriously discriminated against not by my skin color so to speak but because I don't appear to be a First Responder or over 60 years of age. I arrived shortly after 9 am needing to pick up a few items but before I could even reach the shopping cart this white older guy walks up and tells me I can't enter unless I am like I stated a first responder or 60 which I am neither but like I asked who is he to determine who or what a person is? On the board, it states if your disabled or have disabilities ,that's where I come in. So my is why are you not stopping anyone where and you also did this a few weeks ago and turned both my husband and me around and we nicely left but not this time. He pointed out all the details except the disabled which I pointed out and then he agreed. By now I am so upset actually having a panic attack after he cuts me off , I ask for a manager , he walks off , So I ask if he could get one but he just pointed in the direction of the store. By now I am actually shaking and starting to cry a little once I walked in a Black lady at the Register who was busy stopped and asked if I was okay and I told her no that I needed to speak to a manager.She asked if she could sense she was in fact a Supervisor and I went on to tell her how this man not only turned me away once but was trying to do it again today. I told her I am disabled but who business is that, did I need my Social Security Paperwork to prove it? No one else was being checked so why was I . She apologized and offered to get me a shopping cart after seeing I was struggling with emotional Bigtime. She also stated that in her 20 years she has never experienced this and wanted to understand this is not how Costco Treats people. I thanked her for the apology and a manager was called to assist me. This younger white male walks up and as soon as I start to tell him what had taken place, he replied by saying well you don't look 60 , Here we go again I don't look disabled either , but I have paperwork and illnesses to proof it. My main one is Social Anxiety so the fewer people in the store I am able to sometimes shop along but most of the time I have to have one of my family members to assist me. After it was obvious he was siding with the older employee. I started to walk off but then asked for a name or number of someone higher up and he stated that they actually had someone in the store. Next came WES a manager of sort I am assuming which he never stated but instead in fact just like the male before started to justify the older male actions , which really none of them should have. I can read just fine and even though I make not spell all that great , I was Discriminated against not only by color but because I didn't look a certain way. WES never even apologized or even tried to do anything to fix this. We pay our membership faithfully the Executive one I might add. I was humiliated today and almost couldn't even drive myself home after having a second panic attack on the way home. This was just wrong and really sad, now this going to only make matters even worst for me to try even to leave home. FABULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE We went to Costco yesterday specifically to buy a television. And is often the case we shopped for much much more than just a tv. By the time we reached the cashier we had a few thousand dollars worth of stuff. Unfortunately, none of us knew that Costco only takes VISA. Our cashier worked so hard to help find a way to get our items paid for. Finally, Jessica suggested I open a Costco VISA. Brilliant. It took a little while, but everyone was so kind to us while we left our pile of stuff at the register and signed up for my VISA. Kyle was great at member services. Kevin, the membership manager, went over and above to help us resolve the payment issue. And Vernal was kind enough to find me a place to sit and then give me a tutorial on the motorized cart. A fun way to travel through Costco no question about that. The bottom line is that in a huge store where things can get crazy the customer service was just phenomenal. I've never had such great service at a Costco. Thank you Jessica, Kyle, Kevin and Vernal for being so great to my family and me!! read more

If you are in need of the best highest quality of food in bulk , shop at Costco . This a very professional, clean, friendly club to be a part of. The free samples are awesome.... to try before you buy is a wonderful motto. The staff is helpful and kind. The in store bakery, meat department, deli, and cafe are excellent in all aspects. We love Costco and we maintained our membership when we moved to Columbia anticipating the grand opening of the Midlands' first Costco. We went the opening day expecting chaos. The lot was full and there were a lot of people under a large tent pitched out front signing up for memberships. Inside, there were a lot of people, but all the merchandise was orderly and well stocked. We were through the checkout line quickly and everyone working there were in good moods. We bought the Costco rotisserie roasted chicken among all the other stuff like bathroom tissue, paper towels, etc. The chicken is better than what we got from Costco when we lived on the West Coast, and it tastes better than the chicken from the Charlotte Costco. Not sure what they are doing differently in Columbia, but it is great. We are so glad that Costco is now in Columbia. It was long overdue, and now we don't have to drive up to Charlotte to make Costco runs. read more

So I came in here to check this place out to see if a membership was worth it. It was just like Sam's though. The only difference I saw was they had more free sample stations set up. The staff was friendly and the place was clean so that was nice. Its nothing special in my opinion. If you already got a Sam's Card I wouldn't even waste your time here. read more

I appreciate having low gas prices and it still meeting the Tier 1 standard. I do not like the tax rate being 8% because of being in Richland county compared to Sam's being 7% since it is in Lexington County. read more

I've been waiting on Costco to come to columbia for a long time!! I am very happy they have. It is a lot like Sam's except for the choices in organic items. They have a huge selection from vegetables, meats, dairy and bread. It's the cheapest place to find Udi's bread. They have a really good grass fed, organic Hamburger. I've been very pleased with Costco. I only wish we had the same liquor store the do in the other ones. The Costco brand liquors are good. But they don't carry them in the store here. read more

Not sure why anyone would go anywhere else for prescription eyeglasses. The selection of frames and the quality of my progressive lenses are stellar. Bought one pair of designer frames and got the other 40% off. Both pair of progressive lenses and designer frames for under $400.00. Wes and Lisa were professional and very helpful. I went to the Costco Tire Center today, they quoted me a time of an hour and a half, it took over 4 hours, an they were supposed to call when it was ready. I did not get a call. I had to call them at 5:55 then realizing they actually close at 6 on Saturday's. I asked if 15-20 minutes was okay to come get it since I've been waiting for them and when I picked up my car they had already closed an the guy was not the friendliest!!! read more

This was my first time in a Costco. I had read so many great things about Cosco that I couldn't wait to join/visit the store. Well, I was in for a big disappointment. I found the selection of many items limited and, most importantly, many prices were either not as cheap as a regular store's sale prices or were the same as a regular store's prices. My one-star rating is directed at the Automotive/Tire Center. We had a flat tire on our sedan and needed only one tire. The mechanic tried to upsell us to four tires when we only needed one. I asked for a manager and after that, they grudgingly said they could do two tires, but not one. They kept pressuring us to buy more tires that we didn't need so we took the car to another garage in Irmo that mounted the tire (we already had our own tire pre-bought) for $20. I would give 0 stars if possible. Went shopping for my mom but they gave me trouble because i was using her card. They don't care if you are trying to help out family. The manager eventually let me through because he said "it's Christmas" but believe me, I won't be back. He was very condescending. I have a zero tolerance policy for jerks, especially those in customer service. read more

We appreciate Costco for bulk items that we buy including paper supples, cosmetics and vitamins. We have also purchased good dips. This week we bought a cheese pizza. It was not even as good as cheese toast! There was nothing on it but cheese. There was little if any pizza sauce. This was a great disappiuntment. Please rethink this and add more sauce. read more

I was so pleased to discover that Costco had finally opened in Columbia! I just moved here about a month and a half ago and I was already missing Costco where I shopped before I moved! The store was laid out just as my old Costco was so it was easy to find everything I wanted. They have gluten-free rotisserie chickens which is a staple part of my diet. And because of their samples I found gluten-free turkey bacon. Just had some this morning, it's delicious! I shared some of my other products with my sister and her husband who live nearby. Everything comes in large quantities so it's easy to share! And for me one of the best parts is the ease of getting someone to help get your groceries to the car. read more

I went to Costco today with an elderly handicapped member, who is a stroke victim to assist him. The staff in store was nice, but when we got to the cash register, the cashier was rather rude to me, as I purchased a couple items using my friend's card. So happy Costco is here. The shopping experience is great. Staff is friendly. I love the $1.50 hotdog deal!! I find it easy to get into and out of the parking lot. And you can't beat the gas prices.
