I stopped in here looking for a specific whiskey. They didn't have it but they had a wide variety of all spirits! I don't drink a whole lot, so I don't know much about price comparison. Not sure if they are higher or lower than other places. The staff that I encountered was very nice. She had to grab the bottle I needed as it wasn't accessible for customers. She gladly went over there and we chatted the whole time. She made jokes and such so it was a pleasant experience. It's a very calm space. I say this because it's not like a corner liquor store. People aren't hanging around or you don't feel uncomfortable here. Check them out! read more

Ok, so if you can't find alcohol here that you like then dude, you got issues. This place is quite large and has extensive liquor and craft beer selections. I'd say their wine selection is comparatively limited. Overall, very, very well organized store with very reasonable prices. I won't say you'll get steals in here, but on the liquor side of things, they compete with Costco prices and of course they have a much larger selection. They also have like 18 craft beers on tap so you can do a couple free tasters and get a growler filled. Prices on those beers run the gammut from under 10 bucks for a 64 oh-zee fill to over 20 (which was a Grimm offering the day I went in). The negatory on their growler fill station is they don't have posted descriptions of each beer they're running and the digital menu board is really small and way up high toward the ceiling. Bring that sucker down to eye level and double its size and that would help a lot. I think I hurted my neckbone and eyebone having to look so high and squint so much. Cash or debit card pricing is cheaper than credit card here and I find that weird, but take note if you wanna save some of that hard earned cheddar that your main squeeze likes to spend so much. Decent amount of beers in the fridgy fridge, but nothing crazy. Tons of room temp craft beer singles organized into different sections like "Regional," "German," etc. Worth noting, they had very few beers produced from the Northeastern part of the USA, but if you're good with national brews like Lagunitas, you'll likely be plenty happy with what you'll find here. Don't get me wrong, they have way, way more than just Stone Brewing and Lagunitas, but I was disappointed that Allagash was the only Vermont brewery represented in their collection. If you like regional crafts, Green's is your jammie jam, so jam on. read more

Staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the copious amounts of booze they offer. They went above and beyond when I asked about a specific beer from Nashville that I couldn't find anywhere. They said that they may be able to get it in but could take a little bit. A few months later I totally forgot about the beer and we get a phone call that the beer is in stock. They ordered us one case of that beer and just for us. I was extremely surprised that they followed up with the order and contacted us after such a long time. read more

I love the choices on the craft beer and the fact you can buy singles so you can try stuff without having to buy the four or six pack. Sometimes you can even find beers that are marked down! I have been here on 3 separate occasions sampling various liquors and I have to say this is the absolute WORST place I have ever sampled! The manager, Gary, is rude and has the most unfriendly staff I've ever met. I walked in today, went upfront to introduce myself and was pointed to where I needed to set up-which was in the middle of an aisle. There was no "hello, how are you doing", thank you for coming to my store, or anything. The manager walked past my table at least 15 times with no eye contact or even coming over to say "hey how is the sampling event going?" As a manager you should at least come over and say hello or offer your help! The employees walking around the store were like zombies-too scared to talk or make any eye contact with me but watched every move I made. Gary apparently didn't realize that I heard him talking about me and I heard his rude comments about my appearance! I will never ever take a sampling event at this location! They are by far the rudest bunch of people I've ever met! Piece of advice, you might want to be courteous to the brand ambassadors who visit your store to sample as they are promoting the product in YOUR store and helping to sell the liquor IN your store! You, Gary, were extremely rude and the most unprofessional person I've ever encountered! If you don't want people coming in to sample in your store then don't schedule them to come! This isn't the first time you guys have acted this way. Every time I've been there it's the same way! So no worries I will not be back! This location is large and has a wide selection of liquor and beer/wine. They have two separate stores to separate our the liquor and beer/wine. This makes it easier to find what you are looking for. When we went they also had samples of a whiskey they had a special sale on. This was pretty neat because they also provided different cocktail recipes you could use the whiskey in. Green's Beverage Warehouse is a Carolina favorite and for a number of reasons. I haven't heard it in years, but at one point this place had the catchiest radio jingle. I remember humming it in my head every time I passed the place, but that's neither here not there. Green's has the largest variety of adult beverages in the Columbia area. I stopped by on my birthday along with my best friend. We actually didn't stop to buy me anything. She was picking something up for a holiday party we were attending. On this particular visit, wine was the beverage of choice and they have a great selection. The have Red, White, Rose etc. I don't claim to be a wine connoisseur, but there was a lot to choose from. They even had this cool little cooling chamber that could chill your wine in 5 minutes. We settled on a Red wine and Sangria. Because my bestie is a beer lover, we stopped in the section to check prices and inventory. She was looking for Woodchuck, which comes in a lot of flavors. They had four packs and larger. They seemed to have any type of beer you could think of. We moved to the front to pay for the wine and the cashier was nice. She held a little brief conversation with us about how chill the place was for a Saturday night. She wasn't complaining because its football season in a College town.... Go Gamecocks. The break was appreciated. While we were waiting I noticed a small crowd towards the left side of the store and inquired with the cashier. She said they were filling growlers and that they have new beer on tap weekly. I had no idea what she was talking about and so I asked her to school me. Overall the experience was great. I learned something new about beer. I'll probably never drink it due to the calorie content and all, but it was informative. The service was great for such a large warehouse. The selection is vast. I haven't seen a store larger in terms of variety. Outside, the parking is a plenty. Inside you can get a cart or basket depending on the size of your purchase. Although I've never attended, the store offers events monthly. They have stores in Myrtle Beach, SC, Greenville, SC, and Atlanta, GA. So check them out in either city. read more

It's about time I reviewed Green's Warehouse on Piney Grove. This review is for the beer and wine side only. Ok... The Piney Grove Green's is the best of the Green's locations in SC. Hands down beats the Myrtle Beach, Greenville, and Assembly St (Columbia) locations. I've been to those locations, but not the Atlanta location. I'll also say that it beats the local competition: Total Wine, Morganelli's, Sam' Beer & Wine, and Bottles. To me, this is the best beer store in Columbia. Here's why... First the selection of craft beer is top notch. In this, one must remember distribution footprints. The prices are reasonable. All 4- and 6-packs can be broken into singles. In fact, they sell primarily singles! This is great for craft beer lovers seeking new drinking experiences. Additionally, there's a 24-tap growler fill station, which includes a crowler fill. They have everything for standards to rarities. The deals are great, too. First they have some beers 25% and 50% off in some places. They also have a discount shelf with odds and ends. Weekly, they have beers on sale. For example, they recently had $3 bombers of Southern Tier. Next, the staff at this Green's is stacked with knowledgeable beer folks. They can easily speak to the beers, help find beers to suit your tastes, offer aging suggestions, etc. In addition, the core staff are craft beer enthusiasts and support the craft beer community. For example, they offer beer tastings each Thursday and Friday (holidays excluded) with different lineups each day. Also, they take part in Soda City Suds week with special tastings and are involved in the beer fests around town now and then. The staff's focus on customer service is key. Not only is the staff friendly and knowledgeable, they have weekly newsletters (emails) with recent arrivals, specials, and announcements. There's a few other things about Green's that make it exceptional, but you need to get to know the place to understand. So, become a regular and enjoy!!! Bottom line: The Piney Grove Green's is THE place in Columbia to buy craft beer. read more

Holy crap! I yearn for a place like this anywhere within 100 miles of my hometown. Incredible selection of local, regional, domestic and imported beer. I stopped here to stock up on stuff I cannot get back home, and boy did they deliver. It was tempting to not drop several hundred dollars. The place is set up in a wal-mart-size building (OK, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But only slight), that is split down the middle into two different stores. One is all liquor. The other side, beer and wine. Prices are average (I didn't see many sales on beer, but noted several good wine sales), and again, it's all about the selection. I know that beer selection is generally limited by the distribution mafias, but this place seemed to have pretty much everything that they could potentially get their hands on, and all was reasonably fresh. If ever making another car-trip pilgrimage across the country, I'll be stopping here for sure! Also, I'm a 36-year old man who had the misfortune of losing his driver's license. All I had on me was a voter registration card with my birthdate, and a credit card with my name on it. The manager was pensive for a moment but approved it (I mean, come on, do I really look like a teenager?!). I love going to this store because the staff wine recommendations are always great and spot on, which is amazing for a 'burb location. I can come in with just about any scenario and budget, and they have something for me. A standout example was last Thanksgiving where I was looking for a wine to go with the standard turkey meal that was also accessible to a wide range of drinkers. The wine they gave me was perfect with even the non-wine drinkers giving a thumbs up. With all of the wine choices out there and overwhelming information, Green's is such an asset in that they take out much of the guess work that goes with picking a good wine which saves precious time, money and frustration that go with subpar choices at the grocery store. read more

Everybody inside was helpful. Asking if I needed help with anything and I said I was just looking. I ended up buying a case of beer, a bottle of beer and a bottle of wine. Lady at cashier was very nice. I made it out to car and dropped my two glass bottles (beer and wine) they busted. I cleaned up the mess and tossed in trash. I brought a wet red receipt back inside and spoke with manager. I told him what happened. I understood it was my fault but I was just seeing what he could do for me. He said if the bag would of broke he could of helped me. I ended up buying the same two bottles. I would understand if the bottles cost a lot of money. I get that. They were $10 bottles. I could of made up another excuse to what happened and left the mess but I was honest and told the manager I just dropped them. That customer service is awful. The manager was not helpful and couldn't reason and I get that it was a mistake on my behalf. I didn't make a big deal about it in the store. I threw the receipt away and grabbed the same two bottles, paid and walked out. I made it to my car with no problems this time. Happy I didn't drop $80 worth of bottles. I get that it's busy and the holidays and you get things like this everyday but I wasn't rude about anything and I came in with the truth. I had a couple minutes to kill before a meeting so I wanted to walk around. I forgot how awesome this place is! I haven't been to one of these Green's in about five or six years, but now I remember why I went there so often. Awesome selection of all things alcohol. I stick with the beer side, and they have anything for all tastes and anyone. Even some semi-rare stuff (AKA shelf turd) like Aged Makesons and Samael. Hands down the best and biggest beer & liquor store in the columbia area. The only problem is that its about 10 minutes up I-26 near Harbison. I go to Greens Beverage a lot probably once or maybe twice a week. It's about fifty fifty getting good service. There's this one lady that keeps passive aggressively harassing me at the counter and not putting the little mesh protectors on my wine bottles so they don't clank together in the bag. Anyway, I started going to other lines purposely avoiding her even if I had to get in a longer line. Well the last time I had no choice but to go through her line and of course she didn't put those little mesh protectors on my wine bottles. So I let her bag and clank together each bottle and then said could you please put the protectors on my bottles. Consequently, she had a strange look on her face and I knew she was probably still providing me with what I call deviant customer service but I had no idea for sure. However, when I got out to the car I noticed the bottles were still clanking together so I looked in the bag only to find that each time she slipped the bottle of wine back into the bag she unbelievably had let the protector secretly slip off. I'm guessing it was intentional. Wow, I went through heck trying to avoid her that hole time and was then forced to correct her slovenly customer service only to be subjected to more of her deviant behavior.
