Beyond frustration. If you buy an online membership, you still need to wait in line and have a printed copy of the email to get your membership card. If you want to make purchases, you can only use Visa. Is you apply for their Visa card, it takes 15 minutes is endless disclosures. Then you're told that they will print you one at the store. Then, at the store, they have problems printing it, so you still can't buy the things you shopped for hours ago. Terrible, ridiculous, and frustrating experience. read more

I'm a Costco fanatic but I'm here to say that there are better warehouses out there. Dont get me wrong, I love this location most of the time. The food court is consistent, the samples are warm and delicious but the selection seems to be geared towards a different demographic than me. This location in particular seems to also have an issue with vendors from other groups, especially the ladies manning the MyPillow table, who will harass and follow you to bring you over to their table. Thats super annoying and makes for an unpleasant shopping experience. If that were to decrease I'd def make this location a 5 star. read more

Ordered Valentines flowers for my wife and got an email that said they wouldn't be delivered until Monday after Valentines!

During the pandemic the store put up a barricade blocking the entrance. People had to stand in some long lines. I do understand the need to regulate entry as it is crazy out there but.... Costco forgot about the handicapped seniors. They made special hours but if one has a hard time standing for long periods of time plus you are considered an essential worker and you cannot shop between 8 to 9 on Tuesday -Thursdays you are SOL. This Costco was just like our Costco in Colorado, clean and very friendly staff. The parking lot as is with all Costco can be a challenge. Be careful. Prices for the meat and seafood are incredible. I've posted a pic of some New York strip steaks my husband and I bought for a dinner party on Saturday. Sorry about the pic of raw meat. Great value! Good store and selection of everything. This Costco has the wine and beer selection in the store. Very convenient. We saw some great patio furniture for a good price, paddle board's....everything for everyone. I think we all know how we feel about Costco. Everyone goes there with a thought in mind about what they're going to buy. But, much like target, you always find a few hundred dollars worth of items that you don't need. Oh, 5 gallons of wine? Yes. What about a tub of spinach and artichoke dip? Didn't know you needed that now did you? These are definitely not bad things, I'm just saying that my entire paycheck goes to Costco when I decide to stop in to get more laundry detergent and end up buying all of aisle 13. Shout out to the people giving out samples though for keeping me full and hydrated while I barrel through the aisles, two full carts at a time. Then when your done doing that you stop for a hotdog or a slice of pizza before you go home! The meat department is the best! Also they have the best pies ever! What can a person say about an apple pie that feeds 10? Whoo hoo! Another great thing is their vegetables, yes they have some very fresh items and lots them. One nice thing about this Costco is the folks working here. The ones i've had run ins with have been very nice and professional. My wife just had her glasses made here and the folks at the eyecare area where so nice and helpful. Also the gas prices are some of the best in the area, as Max M. notes there are better times to go to get your fuel. One aspect of shopping here that is often overlooked, as per Caroline N., is shopping online, yep there are deals online that you cant find in the store. Bulk buying is kind of a science, so be careful. Still using the bucket of aspirin I bought in the 80's! Restroom are large and clean. So get a membership and enjoy! Absolutely love Costco and their customer service. I usually come here on the weekends when they open since I work during the week and don't want to venture towards West Ashley at 5 pm. The selection of fresh produce is always on point. Although the Costco back home in Hawaii had a lot of organic produce options whereas this one doesn't. I went once on a Sunday to find their cold produce section lacking in anything fresh. My favorite asian salad was nearing its expiration date and looking blackened. I couldn't find a good bunch of romaine lettuce. It was all so weird since Costco is very good about keeping things fresh. But you cannot beat their return policy! They will take almost anything back as long as it wasn't expired when you bring it in. I once took back their ahi salad after eating a bit because it just didn't taste good. You also can't go shopping at Costco without getting samples. If you are lucky, you won't come here on an empty stomach. I can never leave this place without dropping $100. I just wish they had another one here so this one isn't as packed. But, they cashiers are always super friendly and get you checked out pretty quickly. read more

So I am a long time Sam's Club member, and will say that there are some things, especially for business, that Sam's does better than Costco, but overall, the experience is night and day. Like leaving the Ford Dealership and walking into the Lincoln dealership. Very similar, but very different. The big things that I love, is that the people are SO friendly and helpful. I have never had someone who worked there who seemed like they didnt want to be there or help the customer. Clean eating is a little easier here, not just with the organic foods, but the fact that there are special sections for eggs/dairy and produce that are cooled to keep them as fresh as can be. Things I love buying here are avocados and organic cage free eggs. Bread selection is also great. Having a party, maybe even a wedding? They do that too. Save money and order a 2 tier cake and a sheet cake for cutting instead of a 4 tier cake. Fuel is also a GREAT perk, often 5-10 cents less than areas around... (except the Shell right on Sav Hwy, which is very competitive). The islands are also always clean, and the attendants are usually friendly. #Tip: The fuel island stays open 30 minutes past store closing. Tires. You may consider getting your tires here too as well. I saved about $300 on a set compared to the dealer. The biggest challenge with Costco is going to be trying to leave there without spending more than $100! Memberships start from $55 (goes up to $60 this summer). I love "the Costco"!! I'm into the (usually) cheap gas, fantastic customer service, and good deals. I've had this membership for a while, and even when I was single. What single girl doesn't need to buy in bulk? Seriously though, there are some things that you can get at Costco which make the membership fee totally worth it. I've done lots of reading up and many people think that the Kirkland brand detergent pods are really Tide brand. I'm into them either way. Their makeup remover cloths are great because you get basically triple the amount that you would from a brand like Neutrogena for less cost. The Kirkland brand Irish Creme Liquor is bigger and a lot cheaper than Bailey's and you can barely tell a difference (I actually did a taste-test, and while I did pick them correctly, the difference is incredibly minute). Take your membership to the next level and check out their online deals from time to time. I've gotten tons of makeup and beauty deals for half the price you'd see at Sephora or other high end retailers. I've also ordered floral arrangements and I've gotten nothing but positive feedback from the recipients. I also scored 4 pairs of Happy Socks for $9.95 when generally one pair costs $14 at least. Finally, you can't beat the prices on their hot dogs, sodas, ice-cream, pizzas, etc. Only con is the million people who frequent this store every day at every hour. read more

It's Costco. What else is there to say? Expansive, very good deals on stuff you would see in grocery stores and department stores, and you will probably by in larger quantities than you need. Quality of meat is very good, although have had freshness issues with fish before. Probably best deals in wine you will find anywhere. Vegetable department also excellent value - only problem, at least when shopping for two, is that often end up wasting produce due to the quantity you have to buy. Items do not linger here and they often do not get second shipments. I still think about a couch I saw there once and didn't buy. It wasn't there the next time I went back. Costco is much closer and we kept hearing about the great produce section so we were in. Whoa! We have been missing out! The produce section is great! I go every week for gas, every other week for perishable items such as organic milk and eggs. I get my prescriptions there as well as my eye exams. You can eat cheap! Not necessarily healthy, but cheap! I save on laundry detergent, paper towels, and Charmin. Bottled water, batteries, leaf bags, etc., I can go on and on! Costco is one of my favorite places. I love that they have so many awesome private label offerings as wells as a number of organic options. Their wine selection isn't half bad. One thing that I particularly appreciate about this Costco is the friendliness of the staff. I honestly don't mind waiting in line because they are so nice and efficient about the whole process. I also learned something recently from one of the stockers. If you go there and notice a little asterisks/star like icon on the price label, it means its a limited item and will only be there for a brief time, so stock up because it might be gone. This little bit of info helped me figure out what they always have in stock and stuff that is only there for a limited time. Recently they seem to be a bit antsy about where they locate stuff and keep moving things around, but I suppose they have to be efficient with their space. It still sucks though because it makes finding things a challenge from week to week. read more

I really love that this store is in Charleston. I can't believe I have not reviewed it before. I go a lot more than I like to admit. Great for gas at a decent price. Very rarely will you find gas anywhere in Charleston cheaper. Great for certain staples for the home that won't go bad. Their samples are fantastic and can almost make a meal on some days. On this visit there were probably 30 different items if you wanted to work that. I did have about 5 and could have kept going. I have never been to this location when this busy. Must have been the rain that had everyone wanting to do inside things. As far as Costco stores go, it's quite standard which is to say that it's clean, organized like a normal Costco, offers a fair amount of tasting and sampling and lots of great bulk deals. But, I have to say that the thing that puts this Costco at a 5 star is that the only other warehouse style store that I'm aware of in Charleston is Sam's Club. In my opinion, Costco is WAY better and really not that much more expensive than a Sam's membership. And as far as the Charleston area locations, it's been my experience that Costco employees are much nicer, more helpful and more attentive and just happier to be at work than Sam's employees. Costco is almost a wholesale store. In the grocery section they have an abundance of food, wine, soft drinks and produce. All is usually up to date and fresh. The reason I gave Costco a 4 star rating is because sometimes they have an abundance of the products you are in need of but other times none at all. If you are an early shopper when the store first opens you will probably get what you need. If you come late then you might not get what you need. Costco prices are a bit more expensive sometimes than other grocery stores. But if you buy in BULK and have a place to store your food at home then Costco usually beats all other retailers in the area. I only shop the sales or lower prices in all stores and like other stores prices vary from day to day. But in the long run, If you have patience Costco has its rewards. read more

We shop here regularly. With a large family it makes sense for us to shop in bulk. We even bought a chest freezer from Costco ($180) to help with our bulk freezing. I like that I can purchase a large quantity of meat and break it down into meal-sized packages when I get home. The products are come and go, meaning if there's something you like, buy it, because it may not be there the next time you go. The produce department has recently been moved and enlarged with more selection. There is a photo department, auto department (tires, etc.), outside liquor store, eyeglass department, pharmacy, and a hearing aid center. The hearing aid batteries at Costco are a quarter of what they cost in other stores...this reason alone pays for our annual membership. The food stand/cafe at the front is a welcome treat. The hotdog/soda for $1.50 can't be beat, and I LOVE their pizza. (even if the crust is a little too thick for me) It's always hot and the slices are as large as a paper plate for $1.99. We've tried the "chicken bake" which is like a long thin hot pocket and we didn't really like it. The kids have had the churros and smoothies and ice cream berry sundaes. Costco is a good place to stop in and get the kids a little treat ... as we're getting our gallon of olive oil and 5 pounds of sliced cheese. :) The on-site gas station is always, always busy. They just added two more pumps, but it is still backed up with cars. The gas prices are a little lower than local stations, but I don't like waiting behind 8 -10 cars ahead of me to fill up. There are never enough cashiers, especially on weekends....but the self checkouts are usually empty or one person is using them! I use the self check whether I am getting only one item or a cart full. NOTE: Costco accepts American Express, debit cards, and cash. Not sure about checks. My favorite thing about Costco is their pharmacy. They have the best prices compared to other pharmacies. It only takes 20-30 minutes to fill a prescription even when it's busy, and the pharmacists and techs are really nice. Awesome thing...even if you aren't a Costco member you can still use the pharmacy! Costco has great monthly deals on name brand products. They change up the merchandise regularly, usually according to the season. And you can find just about anything there! I do not know who trains the employees at Costco, but they need to rethink who they are hiring and how they are trained to act towards and around customers. Several weeks ago I was checking out as my cashier and another employee were discussing a "Fat, crazy" customer who often shops in the store. I was not greeted at the register, nor was I thanked when I left, and the entire time they were making fun of this customer. The customer in question was two registers away from me at the time. Today I was accused of attempting to steal a $10 teddy bear that my child was holding, as I approached a cash register to ask for a paper towel (I had a child with a runny nose, no tissues, and I saw the paper towels sitting open on the register). I did not walk past or attempt to walk past the registers. The teddy bear was snatched from my child's hands. I spend too much money at Costco to be treated rudely every time I am there. I will find another store where I am greeted with a smile and thanked for my business. read more

While no big box store is known for amazing customer service, you can actually find people on the floor here who are willing to help and even smile.
