I shop at TJ Maxx all the time, and I specifically go out of my way to visit this location because it is one of the only Runway stores I have come across. I have found some great pieces here before, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I picked up a few items, including two expensive white pieces, only to realize they BOTH had visible stains on them. I brought them up politely and simply asked Scarlett P if they could be discounted, as this is something that has been done for me at multiple other TJ Maxx locations without any issue. Right from the moment she responded, her tone was rude, sharp, and unnecessarily argumentative. She immediately said, "I can't discount them, but I can put them as is and if the stains don't come out you can return them," in a way that felt dismissive and irritated, as if I was bothering her just by asking. That alone would have been fine if it was store policy, but the delivery was completely off putting. I still calmly asked if this location just does not allow discounts, because I was genuinely curious, not confrontational at all. From there, her attitude only escalated. She became even more aggressive, short, and dismissive, saying, "I'm just doing what I'm told. We don't do that here because it's already a discounted store," in a tone that felt belittling and confrontational. There was absolutely no reason for it. It was uncomfortable enough that even my partner, who was standing there, asked me afterward what her problem was. That is how obvious and unnecessary her behavior was. I want to be clear, if this particular TJ Maxx truly does not offer additional discounts on damaged items, that is completely fine. Policies are policies. But the way I was spoken to was unacceptable. It felt hostile and completely out of line for a simple customer interaction. To make matters worse, she said the items would be marked "as is" on the receipt, but she never actually did that. So now if the stains do not come out, I am stuck having to explain this entire situation just to attempt a return. I have shopped at TJ Maxx for years. Honestly, the majority of my wardrobe is from there, and I have NEVER been treated this way. I have always had positive experiences, which is why this stood out so much. This interaction was so uncomfortable and unnecessarily aggressive that it genuinely made me question whether I want to return to this location at all. No one should feel talked down to or borderline bullied for asking a simple, reasonable question. I want to be clear, this was not about what she said, it was entirely about how she said it. Her tone was so aggressive and confrontational that it honestly felt like she wanted to argue or escalate the situation. I was genuinely confused by the reaction, and to be honest, it made me uncomfortable to the point where I felt a bit intimidated. I also encourage anyone reading this to look at my profile. This TJ Maxx has more upscale merchandise (and is more organized and tidy) than other locations in the Charleston area. In the beauty and personal care area, you can find top brands of body wash, shampoo, and skincare items for a fraction of the price at department stores. I stopped in to do some Christmas shopping and found seasonal clothing such as ugly sweaters in a wide range of sizes. Their sister stores Marshalls and Home Goods are in the same shopping plaza and have a better selection of household items, but TJ Maxx has its fair share too. I recommend checking out both, as TJ Maxx had an item I wanted in the size I wanted and Marshalls did not. I don't think anyone visits TJ Maxx looking for anything in particular- I go in because I'm bored or have time to waste before an appointment. Still, I never leave empty handed. read more

This store is very hit or miss, but it's quite possible to find wonderful deals on high quality clothing. I used to live in Mt Pleasant, grew up in Charleston, so I love to check out the places I used to frequent. TJMaxx and the nearby Marshall's were high on my list of shops. This TJMaxx hasn't changed a bit. Same store layout and great merchandise. It's interesting to me that this store and the nearby Marshall's has much better merchandise than my stores at home. TJ Maxx is always a good choice. The store is the average size and carries similar items to the other locations around Charleston. It's clean and pretty organized. This TJ Maxx is the only one in the Charleston area that carries The Runway items, which are high end designer brands. I spotted Gucci, Chloe, and Saint Laurent. But don't be fooled...just because this is a discount store doesn't mean the prices are low. You're still going to shell out big bucks for them. The high end handbags are tied down so you can't move them far from their designated table without assistance. They offer a nice selection of beauty and household items. All the clearance items are grouped together. read more

My mom loves "TJ's," as she calls it. She has an uncanny ability to score great stuff here, from home goods and hostess gifts to notepads and stocking stuffers, all the way up to clothing and shoe finds. Today the shoe gods smiled on me with the pair of Madden Girl heels I found....for $24.99! They have the coolest print that- while this will sound odd to boys will make sense to girls- will also serve as a "neutral" pair in my shoe wardrobe. They will also be perfect with the black dress and olive skirt I got earlier this week....oh, the options! Snagged some great Betsy Johnson tights, too, and saw tons of stuff that would be great for gift giving- this store has a very extensive selection of homeware, picture frames and I was especially impressed by the "specialty" food section (jams, coffees, etc). There is not a real selection of work-appropriate clothes here like at others, or at the Marshall's at home for example, but the shoe section and if you're shopping for a young person/teen make it worth going regularly. read more

There are things you can do to avoid the negative returns: 1-try hard to keep receipts in an easy to drop in drawer. 2-if stickers on item, put them on back of receipt. 3-you can only get managers first name, as it's dangerous to them to share their last name. Retailers have become empowered by COVID, to change policies. Nothing we can do about it. read more

If I'm in this plaza I'm always gonna hit up Marshalls/Homegoods first. It's funny that they're all under the TJX umbrella but compete directly next to each-other. Marshalls/Homegoods obviously has the bigger selection and more offerings with the Homegoods side of things. Also, Marshalls sells mens shoes while TJ's does not. What brings me over here is two things. One, if i have enough steam to keep shopping around or didn't find anything good next door. Or two, they have better designer brands which often means more unique items that you won't find elsewhere. read more

As far as TJMaxx goes, this one is by far the best I've been to. This location is always clean the staff is always friendly, and they have great clearance/sale racks. Unlike other TJMaxx stores I've visited, this one has The Runway which boasts exclusive brands while also having all of my favorites (Michael, Coach, Dooney, Ralph). The parking lot is terrible, but I'm not sure it's the stores fault since they share a giant lot with many other stores. Overall, my favorite place to check out new kitchen supplies, bedding, home decor, and accessories! read more

I just love this place. While some people may not enjoy having to hunt for clothes, I think it's a pretty fun way to kill a day. Their shoe selection has dramatically decreased recently, so I'm not sure what's up with that, but I always find cute dresses, tops, and workout clothes here. It's a big, clean store, the line (even when really long) moves pretty fast, there's good deals to be found, and plenty of dressing rooms (with no clothing limit, which makes them the best of these types of stores)! I've definitely seen nicer dressing rooms before (bigger rooms/mirrors, better lighting, more hooks on the wall, etc) so maybe they could be updated in the future but still, TJMaxx is my go-to place when I hate everything in my closet. read more

Usually I don't write reviews. But I am really angry now! I bought two leaking water bottles from TJ Maxx and they wouldn't take it back after two weeks since I didn't have the receipt. And the bottles were used and marked....of course they were used, because without usage I wouldn't have figured out that they leak. The store manager Samantha C. was on top very rude and wouldn't want to tell me her last name. This is the worst customer service service I have ever ver experienced. I bought a defective item and they treated me like it was my fault! And came across cocky. Things can go wrong but it's always how you handle them. My wife drags me to this place on a weekly basis... The selection of women's clothes is huge, but men's is extremely lacking. Their housewares section has some pretty cool kitchen gadgets and a lot of interesting dishes, once you are able to dig through the cluttered shelves. The employees at this store are so rude!! I took my daughter shopping there, there's an older lady that stands outside the dressing room, when my daughter was finished trying things on the lady said "where's the other hanger?" We had forgot the one hanger of the shirt we were buying. I said oh she left it in the dressing room. The lady then said "go get it" so rudely! The lady at the register was also not friendly.
