My job takes me to Pocatello fairly regularly and when I am here I usually grab lunch at Costa Vida once or twice. I love this place; my only real issue with them is that they are closed on Sundays. Costa Vida is by far the best burrito-bar style restaurant I have ever eaten at. Chipotle is boring compared to Costa Vida. Cafe Rio, which is similar in many ways, just isn't nearly as good or as high in quality. The best thing on the menu by far is their sweet pork. If you haven't tried Costa Vida's sweet pork, then you haven't truly experienced Costa Vida! I used to always order their smothered burrito, but recently I have been hooked on their enchiladas. Both items are delicious and very similar (tortilla, rice, beans, cheese, meat & sauce with lettuce and pico de gallo on the side) but I find that I enjoy the different flavors of their sweet pork and cilantro lime rice more when I eat the enchiladas as the rice and beans are on the side instead of being mixed into the burrito. This weekend, on the way home from camping in Idaho, we stopped in Pocatello for lunch. We were craving Tex-Mex and we both agreed that we had a higher opinion of Costa Vida than Cafe Rio, so we headed to Costa Vida. When we got there, we found that the Pocatello Costa Vida was not open on Sunday, so we had lunch at the Cafe Rio. I was very disappointed with Cafe Rio's food; while it was similar to Costa Vida, it just wasn't nearly as good. Next time I am in Pocatello, hopefully it won't be on a Sunday so I can eat at Costa Vida. read more

This location regularly gets your order wrong when going through the drive thru, so don't feel rushed. When they hand you your food, take your time there at the window and make sure they gave you what you ordered. This is a MUST. Unfortunately, you have to do their double checking for them. Never have never been treated so rudely ever went to Costa vida to pick up a to go order the kid blonde hair little mustache wouldn't help me when I asked for help. He said he's doing prioritizing and I'm not a priority I stoodthere for 20 nobody would help. I finally walked out. He was so rude. He said I can't help you. Quality control seems to be falling off a bit... Placed an online Order for a couple of raspberry chipotle chicken salads...The chicken pieces rival chicken strips. Didn't seem to be much raspberry chipotle, and the lettuce would have been perfect for a sandwich but not so much for a salad. Maybe its better to stand in line to order. read more

For starters, i just wanted a salad. I came in about 45 minutes before the lunch rush to avoid hurried employees. Three groups sat inside, so my timing was perfect. No cheese melted on the tortilla which was disappointing. I received the a huge scoop of rice, half a scoop of black beans, a few pieces of grilled chicken and had to actually ask for more lettuce (I did come for the salad remind you) and then felt defeated with the finishing of toppings (salsa, tortilla strips, grated parmesan and guacamole). I'm glad I didn't opt for the smaller version. I can't even imagine why they'd offer one. When I finished the salad, I peeled about 1/5th of the tortilla apart to discover it was so thick it was almost raw. It was literally cold and doughy in the middle. Can't say I didn't give it a shot, but next time I'll drive the extra 3 miles to Cafe Rio. read more

Wasn't looking for anything more than the opportunity to better explain the experience we had during our visit. Next time, don't publicly pretend you care about feedback by responding to negative reviews, in an attempt to make your group look responsive. Actions speak louder than word. I used to get costa all the time, after a while It kept getting more expensive and less product, like any other business in town. I usually get the sweet pork salad and burrito, every time there has been no sweet pork, 3 times in a row, it's cold and not good. I don't know if management changed? or rules changed but I have to pay extra to get even any meat in my food, it's so overpriced to get no meat. I don't recommend them. Costa Vida has become our "go to" place after an evening of volunteering in Pocatello. Imagine my surprise last night when our bill for our usual order had gone up by 35%!! Further stunning was discovering that while the prices for the same food have gone up, the amount of food served has gone way, way down. While the 3 small bites of shredded beef that were in my small salad were good, the copious amount of lettuce to make up for the lack of protein was disappointing. Delicious food however when we went through the drive through and paid they charge the wrong credit card and then only gave us half of our meal so we went back through the drive-through and she gave us very roughly the rest of our food and then we realize she gave us the wrong food but this is a good business. This place was pretty hideous. First, if you have ever had REAL Mexican food, don't eat here. Ever. I don't even think they should call themselves Mexican food. Taco Bell is better. That aside, the rice was old, cold, and looked awful, and the girl working spent the whole time complaining to another male colleague about how she was running out of things (including the rice) and he literally said (out loud and in front of us) to "just give people less." They were also running low on pork, and I watched her put a very small amount in the burritos, so I assume they took the same approach with regards to the pork. My daughter wanted lettuce, cheese, salsa, and guac in her burrito, and the girl looked at her and said with a snotty attitude "you want that IN your burrito???" Then she turned to a different male coworker and said "She wants lettuce IN HER BURRITO?!?" (Same snarky tone). The kids working here could not give a crap about their jobs or how they treat people. I wanted a veggie burrito. But they were "out of veggies." There was a small, sad, burnt pile. I said "like completely out?" The girl said "yeah." You're out of peppers and onions?? Really? I am assuming this is just laziness in making them, just like they were too lazy to go get more rice, or pork. I also watched them make nachos for someone else with literal crumbs of chips. I am assuming they were too lazy to get more chips. They also poured a new plastic bag of beans into the old beans that were already in the warming tray. Without getting a new container or even cleaning the crusty old beans off the old one. There were chunks of chicken in the rice (that I had to ask her not to put in my burrito cause I don't eat meat), there was cheese that had fallen in the salsa, the prep counter was completely filthy. No one was bothering to change gloves after touching everything. The cross contamination in this place was ridiculous. I'll be lucky if I don't get sick. They get 1 star because I can give 0. The only high point was that fresh tortillas were okay, and the kid gave me a little extra guac since I couldn't get veggies and I didn't want meat or cheese. Also they have good ice. But the lemonade and horchata machine were empty and filthy and there were flies all over the bathroom. If you desire Mexican food, I suggest Taco Bell. So this may sound like a rant post but I never leave reviews. The drive thru at this place is PATHETIC. I was driving through Idaho and was making good time but stopped and got some food. It took forever in the drive thru and then the burrito wasn't even rolled! It was folded in half. I went in and gave them my receipt and burrito and they took it and spent another 20 minutes in the back making it again without asking what was wrong with it. They brought a TINY burrito back and it wasn't smothered as I asked. I asked them to smother it and the manager said "sureee" and then spent another 5 minutes to do that. I left pissed. I have always loved Costa vida but this particular location consistently disappoints when it comes to service. Almost every single time I use the drive through, I have to walk inside before actually driving away because they always forget part of my meal whether it be something on the side, dressing, etc. I ordered catering from them for a work event, made it very clear we needed the food to be there BEFORE the even started, they showed up 10 min late. And this week, a coupon was sent out offering a discount on an entree throughout the week. When I went to use it, they said it was no longer valid thought the coupon no where stated it was only valid the day it was sent. Stopped by Costa Vida drive thru today to pick up some chips and salsa and guacamole. The chips were fresh and tasted perfect! The mild salsa as well as the mango salsa's were delicious. My family of 4 just ate there and they made a mistake with every one of our plates. We had questionably cooked shrimp for our baja bowl and burrito. We were also in line behind a nice and patient father ordering a couple of gluten-free meals for his sons who apparently have serious sensitivities and the staff was very careless and dismissive. They assemble the food right in front of you so you know what your getting. The employee was kind enough to tell me the rice and pork had dairy with the use of butter in its preparation. They have a unique selection of Jarritos bottled sodas made with natural sugar. It is a little like chiptole or moes but a surfer theme. I enjoyed a table by the giant water wall. I had a salad. You get your food as fast as you tell them what you want. Ample shopping center parking. read more

The worst customer service! My husband and I love costa vida and we stopped at this location just passing through visiting family. We just experienced a "I don't want to be here" vibe from the young man at the cash register and the girl prepping our food. They were rude and just dishing out an unnecessary attitude. The food isn't very good, but the people are worse. A manager (I think, maybe the owner) sat at a table for over an hour reading a book. About half way through, he had one worker go get her coworker. He sat the coworker down and completely degraded her. I've never seen anything like it. Take your employees to the back if you are going to correct or criticize them. They make everything including their beans. portions are generous and their rewards card helps save you some $, which is nice. Love their chicken nachos or chicken tacos. Good food but terrible service. Ordered online- it hadn't even been started when I arrived for pickup. I'm in no rush- wait about 10 mins patiently. Get the food and take it to the car - start unpacking the bag to check my order and the bag is covered in beans and sauce and containers are spilling. I'm also missing items so I go back into the store- the associate says "I know i put (item) in the bag- check again". It is going to just kill me to write this. The food at Costa Vida is to die for. It is very tasty and delicious, and you won't leave hungry. Rest assured of that. The problem is a few bad apples among their service crew that have left a very sour taste in my mouth. The first time I went for a dinner service, many were just flat out rude. However, I decided that the food warranted another go so tonight we gave it a go. No - I was dreaming. When my wife and I walked in we were told that they would be with us in "just a minute." No big deal. It appeared that they were with another customer. Well they were sort of...they had finished his meal and we're now chit chatting with him. He was a guy who worked there and was in on his day off. Meanwhile, we stood there waiting while they yik yakked. As we ate, the store got busier but the yakking didn't end. Members of the staff couldn't seem to choose between their posts and this other guy's side. Meanwhile, other customers suffered by constantly waiting to pay or getting their meals thrown together haphazardly, so much so that one employee was heard to say "Do you want me to remake it, sir?" before that item was even paid for. It is the customer that pays their paychecks. They are burning their own money when they burn these people like they do. Someone needs to teach them all this. read more

We are from out of town and we eat at Costa Vida about once a week. This is our first time eating at the Pocatello location and we were very disappointed. From the long wait to the weird taste of our nachos. There was no flavor in ANYTHING!
