Costa Mesa Bark Park and is nestled parallel to Newport Blvd & the 55 freeway and Arlington Rd. The dog park and the skate park share the same parking lot and it's right across from TeWinkle Park. For those who require accessibility, there are two spots right in front of the shared big and small dog entrance. As previously mentioned, there's a big dog side and a small dog side (under 30lbs). Both sides are large & open with ample space for doggies who love to chase and be chased. There are doggie waste bag stations along the fence. Pro-tip for large dog side: Grab a waste bag as you enter the gate. You'll thank me later because the bags are only along the fence which is prob not near you. There are plenty of trash cans, couple benches (2 in large dog & 3 in small dog areas), picnic tables (2 in small dog & 4 in large dog areas), but definitely not much shade on either side despite the mature trees . There are also water troughs equipped with a hose bibb which is great to do a quick hand wash or dog toy rinse. I wouldn't recommend your dog drinking out of the trough. It's pretty gross with algae from sitting water. Bring your own bowl. Also, no fountains for humans within both dog park(s), so stop by the water fountain by Volcom Skate Park or bring your own water. The restrooms are next to the water fountains as well. My dog Finn loves water, so I'm fine as long as he's not playing in it or drinking it. The small dog side (which we frequent) also has v-ditch at the bottom of the grade. Most times there is sitting water in it. All in all, this park is O-K. Not my favorite, however, very convenient since it's in my hood. Most seem to enjoy it. read more

This park is conveniently located right off the 55 freeway near John Wayne Airport in Costa Mesa. We liked that there was a large parking lot so finding a spot was not an issue. There are both small dog and large dog areas with lots of space in both. Within each there were trash bags, trash cans, and water bowls. There were lots of dogs when we went on a weekday at 5pm so it was nice to see all of them playing with each other. My only wish is that there were more benches and tables throughout since they felt a little sparse. Overall it was pretty well-maintained and we'll be back since it's close by. read more

The location is awesome, especially with the adjacent open park that has a big hill, running water, and a lake--super cool. The only downside is that it's right next to the 55 freeway, so it can get pretty packed with traffic, especially when people are heading towards the fairgrounds. I really only come to this dog park when there's a hosted Beagle meetup for my puppy. Parking - if it's super busy, it could be very limited. But nothing to be worried about. There are multiple entrances to both large and small dog parks. We only stay at the small one for the meetups. A LOT of space to run around! The grass is good. My only negative is that there are parts where there is standing water near the entrance and it slightly worries me when my dog wants to drink from it. read more

Came here on a Sunday to let our pup run around. Sadly, we were disappointed. Pros - Good amount of space for the dogs to run around. There's both a small and large dog area. Park has potty bags and water for the pups. There are a few tables to sit down at. Most of the people seem to be responsible, friendly, and pick up after their dog. Cons - Though there's a lot of space, the majority is dirt and dead grass. It is very loud as the park is literally right off of the highway. It's also right next to the fairgrounds so when it's breezy, like the day we went, all the dust and sand gets picked up. Directions were a bit confusing, it's across from Tewinkle park. The dog park is fenced in, there's separate areas for small (less than 30 lb) and big dogs. The fenced area was mostly clean, they had poop bags for you to clean up after your pet. Dogs need to be off leash while in the park and there's no food allowed. At the moment (sep 2022) the small dog area is closed but they fenced off a portion of the large dog yard for a temporary small dog area. There are no benches here, so bring a beach or picnic chair if you want to sit. Watch out for pup poop! Even with doggie bags a trash provided, there is a lot of dog poop scattered around. My dog loves it here. My bff told me about this park and it's wonderful! The HB dog park is gated and have seperate yards but & its all dirt. We come here all the time with our doggo. Parking is easy, with a large area for big dogs and a good-sized area for small dogs (our pup is "smedium" so we often visit both sides of the park). There are multiple benches and picnic tables for sitting, but folks often bring their own chairs. Plenty of poop bags (mutt mitts), too. Can get a bit muddy / dusty, so don't be surprised if Fido needs a bath when you get home. Mix of dog breeds and owners, but overall positive experience. read more

I just want to give a warning to dog parents that there's a gray and white pitbull named king that comes to the dog park in the evening and it just attacked my dog and it bit her in the ear, the owner just pulled the dog away, no reprimand, and didn't even apologize. All she had to say was that her dog always goes after white dogs so this is a warning to dog parents to not come to the dog park around 8 PM. I've seen this dog here before and the last time that I did, it was on a leash, and it was barking and growling at other dogs but this time it was off leash, and it attacked my dog. Update: I got home, and saw that my dog was indeed bleeding. I returned to the dog park to find the owner as I plan on taking my dog to the vet and inform them that their dog's bite had punctured my dog, but the owners were no longer there. I completely understand that there's a risk you take bringing your dog, but if you already know your dog has been sensitive around other dogs, I just don't know if it's the responsible thing to do to keep coming back. And if your dog attacks another dog, I think dog owners should own up to it, and leave the dog park, rather than the person whose dog was attacked leave first. Not only was she attacked by the pit, but at least 2 other dogs came after her nipping her in the side and belly, and when I came back to the dog park, both of those dogs were still there. read more

I used to love bringing my dogs to this dog park, but I moved to Tustin about a year ago and I came down in this general direction to visit family and I decided to bring my dog here because I used to love this place but it has definitely gone downhill. Unfortunately, I hate to say.. there is dog poop literally everywhere you try to go. I understand it's a Dog Park and there's going to be the occasional people who don't pick up their dogs poop but this place is covered in it and the entire park now just smells like urine and poop. It never used to smell this bad. Like I said, I understand it's a dog park and it's impossible to keep it well maintenance considering how much traffic comes in and out of this one specifically it is very popular. But it's almost attracted to many people causing this once beautiful dog park to be completely rundown. There used to be so much grass all the time and now it's mainly dirt with some dry grass areas very patchy. The reason why I'm giving it 2 stars is one, because the small dog run area is actually very well kept and actually looks very nice if you have small dogs, it's perfect . Yes obviously smaller dogs are less destructive but if you do have small dogs, it's a great place for you to go. This is a great park for all sizes to run around in. Its great how there is a "SMALL" Dog park and a "BIG" Dog park. Problem is, owners love to bring there little itty bitty teacup fur babies (and the smaller elderly dogs) into the bigger park then get mad at other dog owners that are in the correct park because either the little one gets ran over or the bigger dogs play rough with them. And then we get a scolding because our dogs are doing what dogs do. I do not, and will not tolerate anyone telling me that my dog needs to leave the dog park because he plays a little more rough. He is a big dog in the bigger dog park. People just don't get it these days. Also, the bigger dogs here seem to be a little more rough and feisty to the point they start fighting. So if your dog is submissive, maybe this might not be the best place to take him, or go maybe earlier in the day or right when it closes. (hour before it closes) read more

This dog park does not have any signs in the staging area that warns against leashes in the open areas. People are putting their dogs on leashes to take them out of the dog parks and are surprised when all of the dogs suddenly bombard and fight with their leashed dog as they are trying to leave. I sat here for two hours and watched as almost every person who unwittingly put their dog on a leash to leave had their dogs bombarded in an aggressive way. There is a staging area for a reason. Dogs feel nervous and cornered on a leash and rightly so. Other dogs pick up on this, and when your scared dog lashes out, fights occur. PLEASE POST SIGNS PROHIBITING LEASHES PAST THE STAGING AREA. I will update this to five stars if they post big enough signs to remedy this situation. Until they do, I don't feel safe bringing my dogs where when people are walking around with nervous dogs on leashes. The Central Park dog park in Huntington Beach has big signs that say no leashes. The dog owners there are really good at correcting people there. There are no lights, but it is a much safer location because of the signs prohibiting leashes. read more

There is a separation between the park for different size dogs, which is nice. It is not very well maintained though. When we arrived, the parking lot lines were faded with trash along the sidewalk. Inside the park, there was a puddle with vomit and some fecal matter scattered that weren't picked up by the owners previously. Most dog parks I've been to typically have pretty responsible owners, so it was disappointing seeing all that the first time we came here. Everyone I spoke to were nice, and Saltine got along with all the dogs so she had a great time. Overall, I'd most likely take the puppies to many other locations (other dog parks, beaches, etc) before I'd go out of my way to go here. If you live close to here, it's not a bad choice--just not a GREAT one. read more

I rarely travel with my wife on her daily excursion to one of our local dog parks but being as this was for a friends party I made an exception, besides this is one of a few parks my wife has been to that I hadn't seen. The Costa Mesa Bark Park is located near the OC Fairplex and features separate sides for small dogs (25# and under) and large dogs. The first thing you notice which is not uncommon is how much smaller the small dog side is from that of the large. I like the fact that they separate the sizes but definitely think that the small dogs are rarely given a fair enough size for them to run around and frolic with their furry friends. The park has several benches and a couple of picnic style tables to sit at which was nice and plenty of trees to use as shade to hide from the sun which on this day definitely came in handy as it was scorching and around 90 degrees. The park itself is situated right behind a fenced in tennis court area so tennis balls are quite easy to come by if you didn't bring any from the balls going over or in some cases under the fenced in area. The park has a fairly decent sized parking lot and should be ample for everyone and if not their is more parking nearby in the residential area near Tewinkle Park. One of the major flaws I found in the park is the lack of sufficient water areas for the dogs. They have a closed in water section built near one of the gates that everyone was congregating around and if you sat near the picnic tables you constantly had to walk back and forth to fill the bowl. I wish they had one of these areas on both sides as this would definitely make things easier overall. Overall this seems like a relatively decent park but the upkeep was a bit lacking. The grass could definitely use some resodding and they should for sure look into expanding the small dog size. Not my favorite of the parks I have been to but definitely a decent one for sure. I would come back again if I happened to be in the area but we have better options closer to home. read more

I've been to my fair share of dog parks and I must say this one was nice. Granted, I just moved back from Los Angeles where the dog parks are gross and full of mud. At least this place had some green patches here and there and it was incredibly spacious. Also, there were balls everywhere for the pups to play with. There's also a ton benches to sit in and ample amounts of shade. There's also a gorgeous and well-kept park around the corner in case you want to take a nice stride through the park. Basic dog park free parking One of those dog parks where you can just pull right up, get out of the car, going to the park and then leave and still make it to work or whatever you're off to do while also getting your dogs activity in for the day . Best local park.. separate park for small/elderly pups.. large lot, plenty o space n action & long hours with full brightat dark... tho my biggest gripes, aside from being closed the full-day Wednesday (when it probably takes em an hour.. ‍can't tell you how many Wednesdays I've showed up & ‼) ..but when unaware owners bring their larger size dog or giant puppy in to the small dog park.. Their ‍always seem to seek out my handi-capable anti-social 12 year old chihuahua .. he's just here for potty action..but my terrier mutt is down‍.. & one of these days gonna go south, cuz if you don't have social etiquette / awareness, I'ma have say somethin .. each time.. N speaking of .. I suppose it comes with territory, but they'd be better served closed 2 x 1/2 days vs 1 full day.. those landmines get dicey by Tuesday.. Another -y subject.. personally I bring my own w/bowl.. I've heard some horror stories about supplied shared cross contaminated.. Nevertheless.. I live in Irvine and have gone to the Dog Park there, it is far more poopy, therefore more flies. Here however, people pick up after their pooch and it makes it easier to stand around while my little one interacts with his buddies. Be very weary when coming here and keep a close eye on your dog. While the park is nice and large and fairly clean (as clean as a dog park can be), dog owners bring their aggressive dogs here and my dog has been attacked twice. The first time our dog (he's a 75 lb black lab) was attacked by a black golden doodle, luckily we were close enough to stop anything before the other dog could bit him. This most recent time a chocolate lab attacked our dog and our poor boy has cuts on his leg, underbelly, and his balls (sorry). The owner quickly collected his dog and took off before we could get his information and even ask if his dogs are properly vaccinated. IF YOUR DOG IS AGGRESSIVE DO NOT BRING THEM TO A DOG PARK. It's wildly dangerous when you have an unpredictable and aggressive dog to let them loose in a dog park!!! unfortunately we won't be back, which is a huge bummer because our pup loves it and is so friendly and loves meeting and playing with other dogs. read more

First time visiting today. Their yelp says it's open sundays. But the gate is locked. The sign says their closed wednesdays. Their facebook wasnt helpful either. It was a long enough drive from LA so the husky and I were pretty disappointed having to leave. But the park looked GREAT, and grassy and huge. We wanna go back, but it better be open.
