Water fountain for dogs
Ivi K.

While it's not the best dog park or the most exciting dog park or the biggest dog park... wait, I swear I was going somewhere with this! Haha it may not be a lot of things but I've always seen a clean turf, no stray poop laying around, plenty of dogs playing and having fun, and people socializing with each other. This park is sort of a hidden gem. The best part is probably that it's small enough that you can easily socialize with other people in the park and everyone seems quite friendly and easygoing! The dogs also seem to have a great time although they can easily gang up and bully the most submissive dog, so you need to watch them like a hawk (unlike other dog parks where you might just let your dog roam freely without having to worry so much about him or her getting picked on). Since it's a small park, it's also hard for one dog to get away from another that might be chasing him. There are two benches to hide behind and people but aside from that, they are pretty much out in the open which could make some dogs scared and uncomfortable. I would not recommend this dog park (large dog side) to people who don't have much experience going to dog parks or to people with timid and shy dogs or puppies (who haven't spent much time at dog parks). Puppies might be better off on the small dog side. This park is definitely for dogs who are more social & can stand their ground, at least from my experience in the large dog area. It can be fun when you're prepared and okay with what you're walking into. Think black diamond level.

Astroturf!

I love this dog park. It's a lot smaller but it does the job. It's easier to keep an eye on your pup and so much cleaner. I know some people might be put off by having astroturf in a dog park but the maintenance here is pretty on point. There IS sometimes a stench in the air but it doesn't bother me. I enjoy coming on weekday mornings as it is a totally different vibe on a weekend day. Could've been a one off thing but a dog fight almost broke out and I hurried to get my puppy outta there. No such thing as bad dogs, only bad owners... but so far, this has been one of the better dog parks we've been to. Parking has never been an issue and there are waste bags available if you forget yours.

It's a private location well maintained. Small dog park is small. Large dog park seems small as well. Perfect for a puppy. Grass fake. Water fountain is amazing. It was empty when we went. View outside is very nice. My only issue is the health factor of plastic grass for dogs.

Barker Ranch is Probably my favorite dog park in the area. My dog loves to play here. Extremely cleaned and well-maintained. Great people and great environment. Small park but it's perfect to keep track of your dog (with a bigger park it's hard). This is a fake grass dog park- - this actually makes it feel cleaner than the dirt or grass parks.

Love this dog park. There are two sections - one for small dogs, the other for large dogs. Owners are very respectful of each other's fur babies. The areas are kept clean and there's sufficient amount of space for the e pups. Only reason why I'm giving this place a 4 star instead of 5 stars is because it does have a very slight scent of urine from the turf grass... however, it is expected since this is indeed... a dog park, not a human park.

Ample shade on both ends of the "Big Dogs" side of the park

We don't normally come all the way over here but our local park was closed for the day. This was the perfect substitute! Hope to come again.

Nice dog park close to home in Lake Forest. 2 separate areas w/ fake grass - 1 for large dogs and 1 for small dogs. The people and dogs I have encountered here have been friendly. I actually like the fake grass. Barker Ranch also has poop bags and a water fountain, benches and trash cans. Overall enjoyable place to take my 2 labs to socialize and get some exercise!

Bored puppy.

A small, fake grass poop carpet does not a dog park make. My 6 month old chocolate lab puppy was actually bored after 5 minutes and just sat down.

Very clean and my dog loved it! He got to have his own area since he's a small dog and wasn't intimidated.

This last time we went, was a nice day, sort of gloomy but still bright for great photos. Borrego park is adjacent to an elementary school and shares a parking lot with Foothill Ranch Library. The shaded playground is right at the entrance of the park with restrooms immediately next to it. The park has a large open green space for sports and we often see soccer practices here of all ages. There is a track around the green which people use for walking or kids riding their scooters and bikes. Around the perimeter you'll find benches and tables for gatherings. The tables towards the front are in good shape, the tables towards the back seem to be new/newer. There is a basketball court at the back end. It looks to have been recently painted. Off to the side of the court are more tables. All of them have holes for umbrellas. In this area, you will find painted rocks in memory of, Blaze. He was a young man that unfortunately lost his life due to a disgusting human. It's quiet here and I like to sit at these back tables. Borrego, is a small community park tucked in a residential neighborhood. It's a peaceful place that overlooks Foothill Ranch and is a very well cared for park. We've been coming here for years. You'll know why when you see it for yourself.

Though it isn't huge, there is a 1/4 mile paved walk around the outside of the field, as well as a shaded playground area for the little ones. It has slides, a sandbox, climbing areas, and there are even infant swings available. They also have bathrooms open during regular park hours. This is a fairly popular park because of its proximity to Foothill Ranch Elementary School, as well as the Foothill Ranch Public Library. It's often crowded during the week but not too crowded in the off-season for soccer. There are shaded benches and tables all around to enjoy a picnic or other outing. Spring and summer days here can be particularly beautiful. Five stars.

We did the serrano road and line shack loop, which was about 3.4 miles total. We arrived at around 8am, and spent about 1.5 hours on the hike, walking a moderate pace. I really liked that how this trail was easily marked and flat. There was also plenty of shade, on the trail, so even as the sun came up, it was still pretty cool. There's some elevation on the trail, but overall, I'd say it was pretty easy to causally walk and talk. When you get to the peak of the trail, you can oversee the Foothill Ranch area, and it looks gorgeous! We followed the parking instructions on AllTrails, which led us to a church parking lot, which connects right to the trail. I did see that this park has other more difficult hikes, so I'd definitely go back for another one!

Beware of parking at the adjacent parking lots because they are pretty strict about not parking there for hikers. There are a variety of trails at differing difficulty levels and there are select trails that are multi-use where cycling is allowed. We went on the Borrego Canyon Trail and the Red Rock Canyon trail that was a total of two miles one way. There was some shade from the tall trees but some parts were in direct sunlight. There was a good amount of flat land and didn't have too much of an incline. When you get to an intersection with multiple directions just keep going straight and follow the signs for Red Rock Canyon. You will know when you're at the end when you see signs and rocks all around you. The red rocks really reminded me of the hikes that I went to in Arizona and it was cool to see that in California. Overall it took about one hour one way to get from the parking lot through Borrego Canyon Trail and to the end of Red Rock Canyon. Overall it was an easy and enjoyable hike.

Before that, my dog was a regular here for about a year and a half, daycare twice a week and boarding 4-6 times a year. Toward the end, we started getting messages about her being "too excited," nipping, or snapping. What was confusing is that these incidents were very spaced out, especially given how often she was there, and didn't seem consistent or escalating. We were then told they may need to "reconsider her social status," meaning she'd be removed from group play and placed in separated daycare for an extra fee. Based on how sporadic the feedback had been, it felt like a sudden shift and left me feeling like she was being singled out toward the end. I did ask if someone from management could reach out to talk it through, but never received a follow up, which was disappointing. It's also disappointing because we had many positive experiences, but based on the contrast, I do think environment or handling may play a role. I'd recommend asking detailed questions if any concerns come up.
