Lanark FINALLY has something nice! They do all sorts of nice Deli things that you would expect in…read morethe way of meats and cheeses (that's cheeses, not Jesus, although there is a man with a beard) for sale. There's a pretty decent range of spices and herbs for y'all DIY peeps to go for too. Also some fine foreign wares in the way of foods, sauces and treats. The coffee too is DAMN fine. I had a latte (standard drink to try out somewhere new before moving on to something else) and a mocha on a couple of visits, both of them very nice, perhaps just a tad on the hot side... the latte took a while to cool, that will be more than welcome in the winter though. It's right down the bottom of a street off the main High street, opposite the Lidl. Can't miss it, and you shouldn't. While it's not as extensive as delis in civilised places like Glasgow and Edinburgh, it doesn't need to be, and it shouldn't be. It focuses on having a small, nicely chosen, nicely maintained range - and good coffee and treats. Ideal for a smaller town like Lanark.

We heard about this spot from the host of the local lodge we stayed at for the week; unfortunately,…read morewe only had the opportunity to check it out on our way back to London. Wished we had stopped in sooner as the inside looked really nice and very well looked after. I only had the opportunity to try the mocha as a takeaway, which I think would have been tastier as a have-in due to the milk being slightly scorched. But the staff was very friendly and the inside was very welcoming. Nice displays. Nice-looking pastries & cheese selections. Definitely will be coming back to this spot next time round to check out more of their menu!

Soft play areas are a necessary evil of having children. Admittedly, they are probably one of the…read moredimensions of hell too dark even for Dante's Inferno. I always leave with a horrific headache after a couple of hours in an enclosed space with the high pitched squeals of sweaty children having far more fun than is good for them. However, the silver lining to these places is the guaranteed time off resulting from the muckle nap small children will need shortly after visiting. It makes that couple of hours all worthwhile and keeps me coming back and happily handing over money. Bubbles Factory is purpose built and a really good soft play. The cafe area is clean, bright and appealing and the soft play area is well maintained and adored by big and small children alike. On this visit I ordered a coffee and empire biscuit for me and a cheese sandwich for puff. It is worth noting that a wait for food is usual but since everything is freshly prepared and there is plenty to distracted impatient children this hasn't ever been an issue for us, even on really busy rainy days. The coffee isn't brilliant, it's a machine rather than proper espresso and they do loose a star for that - proper good coffee would make me much happier here! But the empire biscuit and the cheese sandwich were very good and since puff went on to sleep for a mammoth 3 hours following our visit I'll be going back.
