It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Given the level of their coffee and cake, I'll be back again soon.

There are no bathrooms which is a downfall but it was close enough to our hotel. I got the chorizo bagel both days I went and a latte. They have display cases of baked goods and sandwiches. When I ordered, the toasted it. It was filling and had a spicy kick in it. Very good! The bagel was crispy and good too!

A family run, very popular, place, Crema has a great range of food. From paninis (heaven is full of their chicken pesto paninis) to homemade bakes and cakes, hearty soups and a nice line of caffeine based beverages, I spent many a Saturday/Sunday morning brunching here. There are more seats upstairs, and whilst the decor is pretty bog standard, check out the amazing photographs on the walls, amazing portraits in black and white. Price wise it is about average, although the temptation of cake always meant our bill was a little high for a brunch but hey, what's life about if not treating yourself?!! I'd recommend Crema if you are in Hamilton town centre (or even down at the Asda, it's not much of a walk) for any reason. Good food, friendly helpful staff, for a good price. If you are lucky you can chat to the owner(s) and see just how passionate they are about sourcing local produce as well, an excellent sign!

Food comprises snacks with toasties and other light snacks being heated on the premises on order. Coffee is smooth and enjoyable with no bitter aftertaste. Staff are usually too busy to do much more than take orders, prep food and take money. It is rather cramped especially when several people are waiting for their take away orders, but places worth recommending are usually very popular and this is no exception.

What a cute wee place!! Having seen some comments on a local Facebook page and a sample of the…read moremenu, I headed out to Strathaven to have a gander. Just off the Main Street, to the back, you'll find a small, blink and you'll miss it, type building which houses this lovely little cafe/restaurant. Inside is almost like a converted house! A huge space with stairs leading to an upstairs balcony, surrounded by art by local artists. They sell bits & bobs - candles and the likes - as well as coffees, food and cakes. In the middle of the room is a black wood fire surrounded by cushions which I imagine is a lovely, cosy seating area when they have a full house. The menu is small but filled with dishes which include produce from local suppliers, such as Battlefield rolls and Puddledub bacon. As it was still early in the day I went for a delicious sounding open sandwich - Puddledub Shoulder Bacon with Avocado, Halloumi & Chilli jam. The sandwich arrived beautifully presented and laden with strips of bacon and beautifully crisp but gooey Halloumi. A total knife and fork job, the combination of all the flavours together on one forkful was truly delicious. The other half went for the Beef Chilli (which is braised with some local Strathaven Ale) and it was rich and delicious with a lovely rustic, homemade taste to it. Food you can tell has been lovingly prepared. There was no way I was leaving without something from there beautiful cake display. A selection of cakes were laid out on a side cabinet in baskets and trays and I had to deliberate for a good five minutes. I left with a Woods White Chocolate and a Raspberry brownie and a latte which I happily scoffed in the car on the way home. Overall, a lovely wee place and well worth the journey out to Strathaven for a visit.
