My favourite Starbucks in the city. Gorgeous little wooden compartment tucked away at the back- if you can get in it! Always a good cup of coffee- the origin espresso is worth a try- and the caramel machiatto is a very nice mix of steamed vanilla milk to a smooth texture, two or more shots of espresso and a gorgeous and a thick caramel drizzle. As far as food is concerned, the cheese and marmite panini is a hidden gem. Service which is usually good, was only passable today but it lost marks for not asking a name for the cup and having no comment at the end of the bar- both of which are included in Starbucks barista basics. This particular Starbucks tends to be the establishment of choice when I go for my monthly catch-up with an old school friend. It's kind of an unspoken tradition of ours. It's perfect for the job, too, as it's located on a little lane between Royal Exchange Square and Buchanan Street, making it pretty quiet; it's small enough not to get ridiculously busy, and the upstairs seating area is intimate and comfortable. To my surprise, it also seems like it is no longer frequented by massive groups of teenagers who buy one or two drinks and take up the seats for hours. Maybe that's because we both work shifts and end up here at odd, and therefore quiet, hours (2pm on a Wednesday, for example), but we enjoy the quite regardless! Quieter and less messy than some of the bigger outlets, you can usually get a seat, and it feels personal enough to make you almost forget you're lining the pockets of the most shamelesly profit-orientated business on the planet. I've recently discovered the vanilla or hazelnut latte. Not the most manly of hot beverages, and probably pretty damaging to the old gnashers, but outstanding nonetheless. read more

Always very helpful & friendly staff and the coffee is served above the average 'lukewarm ready-to-drink Starbucks standard' which I like. I've always received courteous and personal service by the staff and have engaged in many a nice conversation with the baristas. Only downside is that on more than one occasion I have used the facilities and the WC has been filthy but apart from that, its the best Starbucks in Glasgow! read more

This is a great Starbucks. It's in a good location, it's usually not too busy, and they make the drinks really well. My one gripe is that the wifi in here is pretty bad, especially upstairs. Most Starbucks have solid wifi connections, but in here I've found you have to sit in just the right spot to get a connection. Yet another Starbucks located in the city centre, selling the same coffees, sandwiches and cakes, this one, however, is set apart from all other Starbucks as it's something a little bit different but the secret is going when it's dark. Once you've chosen your coffee/tea/drink head to the upstairs seating area which has comfy leather sofas and feels more like someone's living room than a coffee shop. Make sure you get a seat close to the large windows and you will able to see the gorgeous fairy lights strewn across the top of Royal Exchange Square, it's so pretty. I could sit here for hours doing uni work, catching up with friends or just staring out over the city nibbling on a lemon and poppy seed muffin. I brought my mum here last year, she'd never been to Starbucks before and fell head over heels in love after trying a caramel latte, the novelty still hasn't worn off for her so now whenever we're in town we'll pop in so she can get her favourite latte. This one is usually a little quieter than the one round the corner on Buchanan Street, and it has a nice chilled out atmosphere. So if you're heading to a Starbucks in the city centre make sure it's this one! read more

Starbucks....... It means one of two things to people; either the epitome of a faceless evil world dominating corporation, or just a place that serves great coffee. To me, it's definitely the second, and this Starbucks just off Exchange Square is one of the better ones! At face value, it's obviously pretty much the same as every other Starbucks, same coffee / food etc. The staff are always helpful, and surprisingly look like they actually like working there! However, the thing that makes this Starbucks stand out above the rest is its location. Being hidden away as it is, it's usually much quieter than most in Glasgow, which is always handy. But the real benefit of the location is to be seen at night. It's a Starbucks. It's the closest one to where I work and they've already got my 'regular' order down (that'll be a tall skinny latte with sugar free vanilla) which is impressive as I've only been about 6 times in the last fortnight. It is pretty small, so seating can be tricky (there are some upstairs at the back though), but the staff are friendly and cheery, the coffee is good enough for a first coffee of the day, and I can pay with my phone or my watch (yes, I'm an Apple geek!). Don't you dare judge me......ok, so it's the big bad evil empire that is Starbucks......ok, they are about as independent and local a business as Maggie Thatcher is motherly, but hey, sometimes you just got to admit that the big guys get it right sometimes. So the scoop?. Well, nothing really to say about the gear here. Coffee, same old Starbucks, nice, dependable, riddled with enough 'awake juice' to keep the ol' eyes lids drooping for a bit. Location is pretty cool, tucked just off Royal Exchange square, it gives you chance to mix it with the posh folk and show off on your check in's!! And here's the pitch....best thing bout this place though, for me, was the chick behind the counter.....no i'm not about to launch into a perv (jeez, you look at one chicks bum....) no, this girl knows her job, she knows her regulars, she knows how to keep the chat going, she makes an effort. Big thumbs up. So yeah, cool locations, interiors etc are key to a god coffee shop, but service, for me, is king...good on you lass! read more

There is a place in everyones heart for Starbucks, even if you are not an early morning rush hour half fat slim mocha latte drinker, you can pop in to this Starbucks which by not being on an ideal spot for passing trade can be missed by so many. On my oddly timed visits there is always seats, whether this is a good thing or a sign of bad business, it is the key factor in having me choose this Starbucks over all others. It is just nice to find a place that sells muffins and odd but wonderful little cake things for me to take a break and enjoy in this back street of Glasgow. Let's get the Starbucks hating over with from the start. Yes they're a big bad. Yes there is better coffee out there. Yes they're everywhere. We all know this, so let's look at the stand out points of this individual S'bucks. Of all the bucks in the city, this is the one I frequent most. I hate myself for doing so, but all I require sometimes is a quick easy black coffee and a wee sit down with no frills. It's not brilliant, but it's sufficiently out of the way to not be busy all the time. Most of the time there's a seat available, except during those busy periods like Saturday afternoons or weekday lunchtimes, but during those times I try not to be anywhere near the city centre. The window seats are my personal favourite. You don't need a book, you just sit there and watch the cattle wander past. I should have been an anthropologist. There are seats outdoors, but that's a little too close to the cattle for my liking, and there are numerous jakies hanging out around this area who aren't shy of coming up to you while trying to enjoy your coffee and asking for "change for the bus/train/phone". Seats are also available in a tiny wee snug upstairs. It's this area that most disappoints. From the outside it has the look of a grand-ish Victorian balcony, but when I say 'tiny wee', I really mean it. Once you go up the stairs what your faced with is a minuscule space that has been packed with as many small chairs as possible. When you get the space to yourself it works, but when it's busy (more than 3 people) it's loud, hot and uncomfortable. Starbucks is to coffee what MacD's or Burger King is to food. It's convenient and reliable, standard issue fare. There's better coffee places out there, but probably not as close. read more

This has got to be the best Starbucks in the Glasgow city centre. The seating is up stairs, and while other Starbucks are getting rid of comfy seats, this place has loads. And unlike the other music blaring Starbucks, this place you can actually read a book in peace. The place is very friendly, and the Manager Candy is so helpful. It is a very clean venue, and their filtered coffee is great, while the others struggle to keep the coffee tasting consistent, this place delivers all the time. And at only an echo from buchanan street it's worth a visit. Oh and they are the only Starbucks that allow you to bring your receipt back later in the day to get your free refill. Oh Starbucks you multinational massive company with a coffee shop on every corner. OK you know what your going to get when you walk into any Starbucks the same coffee, frapachinos and food but what sets a Starbucks apart from one round the corner is its location and building. This is one of those cases. Positioned on the edge royal exchange square with a view over goma. The downstairs of this relatively small Starbucks does not look like a place you can sit and enjoy your coffee unless you fancy a seat outside in the changeable Scottish climate. That is until you see the small set of stairs at to the side as you enter the building. If you venture up a floor you are greeted by a lovely seating area where you can sit relax and enjoy your coffee and cakes. I'm not going to review the food and drink needless to say the guys here keep a good brand standard and if it is quite the sometimes have a secret menu suggestion on the counter. The staff are always helpful and nice and the place is always clean. My only fault is the toilet and that Starbucks don't see the need to install a clover machine in Scotland or serve the reserve blends. Other than that if your looking for a standard cup of overpriced black stuff you know where to go. read more

Just a wee quick review to say that Starbucks does some good coffee, in case you haven't noticed. Nothing pleases me more than grabbing one on the way to uni, it really kick starts your day. However, I love the caramel Macchiato, or as I like to call it, my 'cheery up' drink. Whenever I feel down or have had a bad day at uni, I go to Starbucks and fork out my money for one of these sugary beauties. They aren't cheap, but they are damn yummy. Try it! the only reason i'm reviewing this starbucks is the mezzanine - they close it off for students on a tuesday and thursday, as a quiet study haven (and they give you free refills)...awfully considerate of them! and, a quadruple espresso machiatto for under two squid is pretty epic! the staff are friendly, and suspiciously smiley - it's kind of infectious. but be warned, their chatty nature can be a pain in the hole if you're in a hurry and their deep in conversation with another customer read more

This is by far my favourite Starbucks in the city. The staff always remember you and there is one girl in particular, who has dark hair and glasses, that always recognises my face and my favourite drink. I never really thought of it, but it is that incentive for me to choose this particular Starbucks, as her and some of the other staff members really make me feel welcome. There's three different areas you can sit in this Starbucks. There's the area at the door (too busy), the mezzanine (good but a bit crowded) or the 1st floor. There's plenty of sofas given the size of the venue but it can be difficult to get a seat during the weekend as the kids are our from school. It's a good place midweek to go for a breather when shopping or for doing some uni work. read more

Now, I know Starbucks can get a bit of a bad rep for being over priced and being tax dodging whatevers. but for me, the friendliness of the staff is the reason I go back time and time again. I never used to like Starbucks coffee but have grown used to it and think its actually quite niceok, I have had better but then again, I am not going to travel to Italy for a caffiene hit every time I want one!! I am reviewing this particular store as I view this as my home store. though due to the nature of my job I visit a number of different ones on a fairly regular basis. The whole putting your name on the side of the cup can be a little uncomfortable, however, it makes my day when I go in and the staff know my name already and what my usual order is. They always ask how I am and if it is not too busy, have a good wee natter I can ask them about things going on in their outside lives and vice versa. I like feeling that I am more than just money going into their till! Working with the public myself, I really appreciate when people make that wee bit of effort. Admittedly, I have never been into a Starbucks store and thought the toilets were nice I think they are all in general in need of a good lick of paint and perhaps a more regular clean. By far the worst was Tottenham Court Road. only one toilet was working and it was horrid!! Dirty, smelly sanitary bins overflowing and loo paper everywhere. Granted, some of this would be down to the customers and not the staff but still not pleasant. Back to Exchange Place, when its busy it is hard to get a seat but I dont find it a problem most of the time as I am not afraid to ask groups of students (I'm sorry but they're the usual culprits) to take their bags off seats. Wifi access is free however I find it a bit hit n miss as to how reliable it is. Yes the menu is a bit overprice but has always been good quality in my opinion.. a few proper healthy options for the weight conscious would go down a treat as really, the skinny muffins aren't really that skinny!!! The general tidyness/ cleanliness is usually spot on. I've worked in coffee shops before so ain't gonna greet if it takes ten mins to clear a table away when its busy!!
