When I got there she seemed okay, just a bit distracted. She began with washing my hair, where she gave the Lightest "scalp massage" and I'm not certain that she put any conditioner in. Then when I got into her chair she put it all the way to the ground, so that I could only see from my eyes up in the mirror while she cut my hair. To the point that she was literally on her Knees to do her job. She barely asked what I wanted, then didn't even follow that. I asked for layers to round the shape of my hair out, for it to sit about shoulder length, and my bangs to be cut at cheekbone length. Instead hair was past my shoulders in the front and long and Mullety in the back as if she didn't cut that at all. My "bangs* were down to my mouth and there were Zero discernable layers to be found anywhere. When she asked if I wanted her to do anything else I asked for it to be cut shorter, she trimmed the front 2 pieces a tiny bit and that's it so I decided not to ask for anything else, as she already wasn't doing what I asked. Not once during the total of Thirty minutes that she spent on my hair did she check if the length was ok, what I was thinking about it or anything. She spent most of the time making my hair frizzy AF then fluffing it around than she did taking time to cut my hair. She also did not offer me a mirror at Any point to see the back. I feel like she was distracted the entire time, did not actually want to cut my hair for some reason, and left me looking ridiculous. I walked out of the store with a fluffy, frizzy, mullet and paid almost $100 for it. I absolutely will Not be back and Highly discourage Anyone from going to see Denise. I ended up going to my friend's house afterwards, waking her up, and together we did a Significantly better job than Denise.

The other stylists were also kind and friendly -- the atmosphere is welcoming and just lovely. I also walked out with a haircut without breaking the bank. I showed a picture and brought in physical hair extensions in the red shade I wanted. I was never told my desired color was not possible. The resulting job left my hair looking similarly close as when I walked in (another shade of brown). I immediately stated to the dresser that the result was far from what I had requested. The owner (Karla) made a comment about how at least they're not having me walk out with horrible hair. That was completely off-putting since I never expect to leave the salon looking horrible nor do I ever spend my money with that outcome as a goal. Karla offered to have me come back in so they could tone it. I would rather take my money to a place that can get close to what I want the first time around, and if not, not being defensive about their own wrong doing. Total service cost before tip was $255, which is a ludicrous amount to charge if you didn't deliver. No discounts were offered which is very upsetting and tells me this business is lacking integrity. There needs to be transparency - If a hair stylist doesn't possess the knowledge or skills to achieve clients desired color, that needs to be stated from the start. I would rather know that up front so that other possible arrangements can be made and if that is not possible then I can go elsewhere. Going to this salon was such a waste of time, money and energy. I have included 4 pictures with my review (reference of desired color, the extensions I brought in to salon, my hair before service, my hair a week after service). I believe this will show more truth to anything beyond my words.

Not only that, but she was a rockstar in terms of being professional! She was very responsive, on time, took the time to listen to her customer, and the best thing of all... she finished on time! I have rarely had that happen with past hairdressers. It was truly one of the best haircare experiences I have had... and my hair now looks GORGEOUS. I spent 5 years after moving to Madison searching for a stylist that didn't butcher my hair or make it look like a cheap cut with no texture and shaping. A male co-worker told me about Jason and that I should go try him out because he was "really good"...he was so good and people loved his styling that quite a few people from our company started going to him because they loved his work! Well that was back in 2007 and only one other person has touched my hair since in that time. I'm also the type of guy who is obsessed about his hair, so trust me when I say that they know what they're doing. I have been going here for over 3 years, and have never been disappointed, except..... don't let Erin cut your hair. I'm not sure if that's her exact name, but she is relatively short, older (about 40-50 years old), a bit wider than the average person and uses a cane and has blue hair. I often get haircuts without scheduling a time, so I normally get the first available person, which normally turns out to be her. At first I thought this was a coincidence, but then after giving her 4 chances to get a simple haircut right (longer on top, shorter on the sides), she has failed every time. She would miss patches of hair, she would start off doing the wrong haircut and then have to correct her mistakes, or she would cut much shorter than I asked. I have given her way too many chances! Always avoid her by any means. If she is the only one available, leave and schedule an appointment. So in summary, this place is great, this is the best place in Madison. But by all means, AVOID ERIN!

It had coffee marks at the bottom. Here are a few tips if you are enjoying a day at the spa: Parking - Consider parking somewhere other than the building's parking lot. I spent the next few months trying several salons that were a little more affordable, but the quality just didn't compare to my experiences at William Jon Salon. I'm particularly picky about my hair, since I love a crazy volume and stylish hairdo that is also fairly low maintenance. Many folks who've worked on my hair always comment on how surprisingly thick my hair (it's full of secrets) and difficult it is to work on, but very few have been able to make it look exactly how I want it to. Enter Katrina, an incredibly attentive and talented woman! I showed her a reference picture of how I wanted my hair, and she spent the next hour making sure it was perfect. That entire time, we talked about random topics like wine, family, and even travel, and I felt as if I was catching up with an old friend. Without fail, I always get a ton of compliments and questions about where I get my hair done whenever Katrina works her magic on my head. Needless to say, I have found my hairstylist for the rest of my life out here in Madison, and think it's definitely worth paying a little bit more and loving every moment of my fabulous hair instead of saving those extra 15 bucks and sighing every time I look in the mirror!
