We tried out Cosmos during Restaurant Week and are so glad we did. It's a bit hidden away, off 6th Street near Dexter's. The food was super good, flavorful, with good sized portions. We enjoyed eating in, though the space is small. It looks like they do a lot of carryout business, primarily folks picking up rather than delivery services. The attached store carries an impressive array of Indian foods, including both staples and spices, and frozen and other easy to cook options. They also have desserts to go and the store includes beautiful Indian clothing, incense, and decorative items. I encourage you to support this small local business. This restaurant is wonderful. I ordered here after a stressful few weeks and got some of the best vegetable korma I've ever had. The samosas are delicious. They're made in a more traditional manner than American Indian food, so you have to be prepared for the difference but it's absolutely divine. I highly recommend this place. Our first order from Cosmos, so we went a little safer, ordering the naan sampler, lamb Rogan Josh and chicken curry. Honestly, it was all so flavorful, we had no complaints. Especially the Rogan Josh - the sauce was so rich; I'm really looking forward to leftover tonight. The naan sampler was fun to try three different types of parotta, which was new to us. It's not the cheapest but you get plenty, enough for dinner and leftovers. Next time we'll try a few things we've never had before. As for ordering, I called the restaurant directly rather than go through a 3rd-party service. The person who took my order gave me a time for pick up, and it was ready when I got there. I did observe that they were behind on the delivery orders, so based on that, I don't recommend using a delivery service. Most of the low reviews I've seen here are people who used a service. If you search for the restaurant, the results say the business prefers you order directly online or by phone, which may mean they do not have a relationship with 3rd-party deliveries. read more

This is a very eclectic place! It is unusual, but in a good way! They have sit down area for eating now. Very small, but cozy and quiet. Yo can look around at the store while your meal is being prepared, and that did not take long. We had the butter chicken and garlic naan, and they were great!! Small drawbacks, soda was pretty small, BUT they give you a BOTTLE of water when you ask for water. The serving was a little smaller than other places, but I'll trade that for fast and courteous service, which seems to be lacking in most Indian places I've been.The bathroom is through a labyrinth of sinks and freezers behind a curtain, but itself was fine. I DO recommend this place, it's worth the very small drawbacks for the atmosphere and service you get! Plus bought some frozen Samosas for later!! We will be back!! THANKS!! read more

Our worst dining experience ever - neither of us could eat more than a few bites. We are familiar with Indian food, and frequent Indian restaurants in the Lawrence/KC area. We suspect our terrible experience had to be an outlier. We'll usually give a lackluster dining night another try (eventually), but not in this case. read more

The food is tasty, well prepared and authentic. Small, quaint place comprised of four booths in the back of an Indian grocery store. The chicken and shrimp masala was very good and perfectly spiced. The garlic naan was hot and seasoned nicely. Not a fancy place by any stretch but the food was quite good. Limited drink selection. Didn't have unsweetened ice tea. read more

As someone who grew up eating this cuisine (I'm from South Asia) just gotta say WOW this is not good at ALL. I like the grocery store (I buy spices here) but never in a million years would I order from here again. Heck, even trader Joe's microwave chicken tikka masala is better than this place. Do yourself a favor and try Globe Indian if you want anything decent. I used to be a huge fan of Bayleaf before it closed but Globe is the best in town these days. Not a fan of India Palace -- the curries are super bland / non complex there. India palace is good at the fried stuff (samosas) but the curry is not that great (definitely better than cosmos... yuck). Globe is the best Indian in town, try the buffet so you can find what you like. read more

My husband and I decided to try Cosmos and ordered delivery through Eatstreet.com. After 1 1/2 hours we still hadn't received the food so my husband called the store to check the status. (I wasn't overly concerned about it taking this long since I know Indian food can take a while.) A woman answered the phone by saying "hello?" which was a little odd since most businesses answer the phone by saying the business name. She said she would check on the status of the order and that was the extent of the conversation. About 15 minutes later the delivery driver arrived and apologized that it took so long and said that there wouldn't be any charge for it. I had already paid with a credit card through Eatstreet and no refund has been issued (I will update this review if I do receive a refund). I'm guessing the driver got lost because the food was not hot. My husband had the chicken tikka masala and said it was good. The naan and vegetable samosa were okay, but not very hot by the time we got them. I ordered the vegetable korma but received something that was definitely not vegetable korma (I think it was dal makhani). I was pretty bummed because I love vegetable korma and was looking forward to trying theirs. The Eatstreet menu said it was also supposed to come with dal soup but it was not included. I didn't bother calling the store because I didn't want to wait another 1 1/2 hours. Both of our entrees came with lentil/papad type chips but they were soggy and cold since they were in the same container of the once hot food and the condensation had gotten them wet. I like supporting local businesses but I was pretty disappointed by this experience and won't be ordering again. read more

Initially I was skeptical to order items online since I had no experience about the store. However, I went ahead and ordered the items on October 10, 2016. The items were suppose to arrive by October 17th according to the tracking information. It seemed to have reached my destination San Diego but was returned to the sender apparently to an error in the city details. I was irritable and contacted the store and demanded what went wrong. Rathi who was handling my issue got to the bottom of it and responded immediately confirming an error in the city details I provided and let me know that they would resend the items. They did but once again they were returned back to the store again due to an error in the city details. Of course I was getting more and more annoyed so contacted Rathi once again online and asked her to call me ASAP. Rathi did so and she patiently asked me to reconfirm my delivery address. On doing so I realized that the address details I gave had my zip code but did not have the exact city information which was San Marcos although in San Diego. Clearly an error on my part! In spite of the error on my part she was very polite, patient, understanding and courteous and handled my problem very efficiently. She made arrangements for the third time to resend my order ASAP with the corrected information I provided. I received my order in 3 days and was not even charged for extra shipping. I really appreciate Rathi's time and professionalism and have no doubt that I will definitely order items from them again. Pragnya. read more

I am very surprised to find such low reviews on here. I've only eaten here twice, but both times I have really enjoyed it. The food is delicious and pretty cheap. The staff is also very friendly and the lady working today offered me a free drink just because I had to wait five minutes to pick up my order once I arrived at the shop, which wasn't even an issue for me. I love Indian food, so it's great to have a place like this near my apartment. I think this is such a hidden gem among all the great food we have here in Lawrence. read more

I went here a couple weeks ago. I didn't buy anything from their restaurant but I was looking at their grocery section for spices. To my surprise almost everything was expired in that section. Now I'm not sure how their food will taste but after seeing the expired spices I am concerned about how they are cooking the food and whether they are using the same stuff to cook it or not. read more
