The hotel suggested we take a cab but we managed to pull our 24 inch luggage from the hotel. We cut through the Holiday Inn parking lot. I wouldn't recommend you walking unless you're very mobile. It took us under 15 minutes. We enjoyed the hotel. Very upbeat. We noticed a photo booth on the mezzanine and table tennis. We had a choice of 500 points or food credit $10 per person. I took the food credit as we were going to eat before leaving for the terminal the next morning. Spent about another $12 USD out of pocket. Standard breakfast food options. We also had hotel bar food for dinner the day we checked in after the two fish and chip places suggested by the hotel didn't work out. Ordered: * hubby had chicken wings * I had Mac n cheese balls * BIL had chicken curry * sis had egg rolls We each were given a free cocktail voucher. It was like a fruit punch. Also got local beer. There's a shopping center across the street. It was a Sunday so stores closed early.

The bar on the ground floor is pretty cool and I enjoyed all the decor. We were given a complementary welcome drink, which was greatly appreciated. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Unfortunately, I only had about 90 minutes of sleep due to going to bed late and needing to get up early to catch a bus back to Heathrow. The bed and pillows were lovely and there was nice lighting, even a motion sensitive light under the bed so you didn't trip over things in the dark. I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again. It was nicer than I anticipated and felt "cool" and "trendy." Drink were a bit pricy but there are countless options within a short walk.

Accessible entrance and lifts are in the lobby. Stairs were also easy to find and use. It is clean, bright, and has a relaxed ocean vibe. Our room overlooked the harbor, we could see the Queen Mary 2, and it was quiet. There were binoculars in the room that were fun to use! We were on the 5th floor so during the day and evening we could hear the chairs and furniture scraping the floor in the rooftop bar (on the 6th floor). Not terrible, but next time I'd prefer not to be on the fifth floor. The bed was comfortable but oddly the comforter barely fit the bed - we had to sleep in the center of the bed because the comforter was not wide enough to reach beyond the edge of the bed when we weren't in it. There cannot be an outlet in the bathroom by law, so using the hair dryer was also a challenge. There is a big full length mirror near the bathroom, but no outlet nearby and the hairdryer cord was not long enough. Fortunately there was a nice makeup mirror in the bathroom I was able to move and could prop up on the tissue box on the desk to see my hair while I dried it. Keeping the makeup mirror on the desk (where there is natural light) is a good idea because the lighting in the bathroom is terrible. Loved the chairs and colors in the room. Plenty of closet space and drawers. There is also a snack closet - look for the price list! We ate at the rooftop bar twice. When we arrived in the afternoon we had drinks and a pizza - both great! Jon was wonderful & helpful! We came back for breakfast the next morning. The buffet was perfect for me - the overnight oats were delicious as was the yogurt (very tangy) and fresh fruit. Hubby had some buffet items and eggs Benedict which he enjoyed. We would definitely stay here and dine here again!

We asked if possible to move and were given a nice table inside by the windows.

The highlight of my meal was my starter, the fried calamari. I was reluctant to order it, as normally fried calamari is consistent across all restaurants and doesn't take advantage of premium establishments but I was so glad I did. The best calamari I can remember, perfectly breaded, not greasy, included both parts of the calamari, and a healthy sized portion. I will go back just for it. Followed it with the branzino, which they filleted at the table. It was a nice fish and well prepared but did not blow me away. I also had the cheese course. While all the cheeses were good and the portion size was excellent, if I was them I would put more "show" in it. They already have a trolley, rather than ordering off a menu and getting a somewhat generic looking cheese plate, they should present the trolley and walk you through the cheeses (even though they are described in the menu). Again, no complaints with the cheese but it could have been much more. Overall a great meal with the calamari sticking my head.

The food is great; the service is outstanding; and the rooms are large and well furnished. The price of the hotel is a good value for what you get; the price of the food is appropriate for a swank meal (be prepared to drop a pretty penny, but if you can accept that you will truly enjoy your meal.) If I could make a recommendation: trust the chef's recommendations on the menu. They are all really, really good.

I had ordered the tomato soup for starters, roast beef for a main, and a warm chocolate brownie for dessert. The soup was rich and very warming. I would like to state this here and now .. I HATE BRUSSEL SPROUTS .. everywhere I go they are served and no one eats them. It's like there's this big brussel sprout conspiracy to support the shady sprout mafia. The dessert was very rich, very scrumptious and when I was done there wasn't even a crumb on the plate. I would highly recommend this place for a Christmas Lunch. It's a nice & cozy place, a fireplace by the bar and nestled in the midst of the New Forest ... plenty of ponies wandering about the place and a lovely enclosure across the road for walking off any over indulgences.

We were fortunate enough to come across a livingsocial deal for The Old House. He had heard great things about this restaurant from his family members, so with luck we purchased this voucher and wandered into a top end restaurant having paid fairly little money. Let just say, England's bad food reputation is relatively true if you don't know where to look. There are plenty of small gems like these in little towns, though frankly you might have to pay an arm and a leg for this place. Most people reading this review probably won't even live in England but if you happen to be in the Hampshire area, near Winchester I urge you to try out The Old House Hotel & Restaurant. The setting, if you have good weather like we did, seems like something out of The Great Gatsby (without the infidelity and murder). I am under the assumption this place was once a residential home (hence the name) and been transformed into classy dining experience. The decorum in an American point of view, very old, classy, New England with the Fitzgerald's and the Kennedy's. There is a quiet garden out back with a few picnic tables where you can enjoy some champagne and a smoke and when you're ready to come in you go in. In the end, the real winner of the night was the food. Most of the food I chose was the ones I thought were interesting. I started with a Tuna tartare, with an avocado sorbet, wasabi caviar, and a dark soy reduction. This was my most adventurous choice, and in the end I was mildly disappointed with my choice. It wasn't that the food wasn't good, it was just the combination was too weird for me. I, naively, was under the assumption that the avocado sorbet was going to be something more like a whipped avocado cream but it was actually an avocado flavored ice cream placed on top a bed of tuna tartare. The wasabi caviar was too bitter and really detracted from the natural flavor of the tuna. All in all, I think the right idea was behind on this dish but needed a bit more tweaking. The other hand, the plating was the most beautiful thing Id ever seen. As my main, I chose the Lobster with Crayfish (or Crawfish if you're American) garden pea and lemon risotto with a parmesan crisp and Thermidor Sauce. Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous, everything worked so well together, the lobster was cooked to sweet succulent seafood perfection. The risotto was creamy and with just a hint of the sour lemon taste to help bring out the flavor of the craw(cray)fish. I thought I couldn't eat another bite but then I saw the dessert menu and well... I'm a sucker for the sweets. The dessert, we had the "assiette of Old House desserts for two" which roughly translates to the best way to eat your way to heart disease and diabetes. The plate came with a dark chocolate brownie the length of a brick, summer pudding, toffee creme with a banana bread base, and peanut butter parfait (which is really just peanut butter ice cream). I ate until I thought I was going to burst and then picked more at the plate. The banana bread was served on the opposite side of the toffee delice but were meant to be eaten together and damn, they are the new Mac and Cheese. Barring from the fact, I love brownies I spent most of my time engulfing this amazing dessert. All in all, if you can't tell from my long-winded review, you should probably eat at this place. It's really pricey so don't splurge as much if you don't have the money. Remember I lucked out because I got a voucher but this is definitely one of the best restaurants I've been to in England if not ever. So by all means, if you're here already spend a little, live a little. It's a great restaurant. They do require reservations, It does seem to get a bit busy and make sure you dress for the occasion. 1920's flapper girl dressy but with class of course. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
