This is a real 'curate's egg' of a place. Having chosen it as the ideal location to stay in the area to watch cricket at the 'Ageas Bowl', which is no more than a few yards away, it was a mixture of good and bad. The rooms are fine, very similar to those provided in other budget hotels such as Premier Inns, and the general surroundings and furnishings are of a reasonable standard. However, that's where the good bits stopped.
The staff we encountered in our 2 day stay seemed rather bored and unenthusiastic, though they responded to requests without any problems and efficiently enough. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were present and worked but were very sparse; a double room with only 4 tiny pots of semi-skimmed milk is hardly adequate. When it came to the 'complementary breakfast', it was a question of not knowing whether to laugh or cry; it was, a self-service arrangement in a very small area with not really very much on offer. The shambles was not improved by the sausages, which had probably never seen any form of animal matter, nor the scrambled eggs which appeared to be constructed from a mixture of powdered egg and water. As the sausages and eggs were the only hot offering other than baked beans, it was not a particularly enticing breakfast.
As a budget hotel in the Premier Inn style, this is a perfectly acceptable place to stay for a couple of days, if you don't really want to bother with breakfast. Unfortunately, unlike Premier sites, there's no where else nearby to eat and that makes breakfast somewhat problematic. I probably would stay again but I'd know not to bother with eating there and my stay would be short, certainly no more than 2 or 3 days. read more
