I am a huge thrifter, always on the hunt for eclectic trinkets, treasures, and clothing. I will…read moredrive hours to peruse places in other cities, but the Humane Society Thrift is by far my favorite place to shop. I am always greeted warmly by the volunteers, and strike up genuine conversations each trip. The shelves are abundant but still well-organized, offering everything from home decor to utilities to crafting supplies. Prices are fair and affordable, which is so refreshing amidst the overcharging of big corporations. I appreciate this especially as a college student on a budget. And every purchase I make goes toward the most precious animals! I visit them frequently, too. :) I'm so excited for the opportunities that their relocation and expansion will bring; I can't wait to swing by the animal corner at the front once it's been developed!

There's an eclectic mix of stuff. Prices can be just OK or totally super value. I always have to make sure I have a wad of cash if I go in because it's a rare day that I leave empty handed. Fun dishes, kitchen implements, groovy clothes, hats, random bits of hardware, and who even knows WHAT you'll find. Sometimes I just have to leave things I want because I already have enough stuff. But wow. Just wow. Then there's the staff. Is it OK to call them staff? They are volunteers. They do their work because they love the Humane Society. You know what? That's awesome too! Their revenue goes to the local Humane Society and provides over a quarter of the Humane Society's annual budget. That's huge. The staff is also friendly and helpful. I better get on down there; it's been a couple days!

However, if I'm paying for a service then I expect to have my furniture taken if it's in respectable shape. The deal is $40 to pick up your items, in my case it was a fairly used mattress but clean. Perfectly good for someone who really needs a bed. They arrived, glanced at the mattress and decided that it was not worthy of their outstanding services. I asked if they could take the box spring and they said yes despite that being in worse shape than the mattress. I asked if they would call about a payment that I could process via my card but instead the employees stated "You can just pay us in cash." I regret paying them at all as it wasn't worth the time and certainly wasn't worth the money. All around wouldn't recommend this place if you're trying to get rid of a mattress as they'll only accept it if it is in pristine brand new condition.

I really like that they help out disaster survivors and domestic abuse survivors in furnishing their new homes, that's what sold me to donating to them over anyone else. The two guys that came were very respectable and quick to load everything up. If I'm ever on either side of their business, I'll be going to them first.

I am going to quote something you will find on the CCCC website when seeking further information…read more "CCCC provides a safe, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to be independent and to learn their full capabilities. Because of our low staff turnover and appropriate child/teacher ratios, we are able to pay attention to the individual needs and development of each child." This is not true, the center told me that they do not have low child/teacher ratios, therefore are unable to give attention to my child's individual needs. They also agreed to work with my husband and I with our child's needs only to less than 24 hours later turn around and kick him out of the center. So there is a lot of deceit involved. However being asked to leave because the staff, which "are not properly trained to give attention to my child's needs" as I was told, was not the issue here, the issue was the lying involved. After being more than willing to work with the center and change my child's schedule at home to cater to the center's needs, and comfort, as well as asking how I could help at the center (to which I received a response of "I do not know") I, in a very upfront manner asked, so you would like my child to stop coming here to your center? I was told no that was not it, that we could move him down to less days, that they would have someone come in and help my child, that they wanted to work with us, that they wanted what was best for my child. This however was also untrue, as I was asked to stop bringing my child to the center. I do not consider this professionalism at all, there was opportunity to be honest, instead of handling this situation in this, unprofessional manner. It is ironic because the week my child was kicked out I had asked (monday and tuesday) how he was doing and if his behavior was an issue or if he had been doing anything that he had gotten into trouble for. His teacher told me No, that he had a good day, BOTH of those days, then in a matter of three days I was told the complete opposite, called in thrusday to have a meeting, lied to; then asked to come and get him friday, when he was kicked out, due to his needs, with the excuse that he was being too demanding for the CCCC (lancaster) staff; in addition to honesty not being a priority in the centers staff - parent relationship. This really is unfortunate, I would NOT recommend bringing your child here at all, I would recommend looking elsewhere to fulfill your child's (care) needs.

At least 80% of the children in the Pre-K room were ill. There is also an Ant infestation near the cubby area, which employees knowingly place the children's clothing and personal items in. After many requests regarding sending in pest control, suggestions of properly sanitizating as well as bully concerns not being properly addressed I withdrew my child. The center is also known to overcharge as well.

Locker rooms are gross and lockers are expensive and often broken anyway. Don't bother. Exercise facilities ... ok if you don't need any space to do anything and can rely on machines for your workout, and need no room to really do free weights. Stretching? Hah ... good luck. If there are more than two people trying to do anything you'll have to toss a coin for navigating the space. Also why does everyone think it's ok to stand in the stairwell and have a catch up conversation as loud as outside voices? Or converse on the phone while working out?! Track is nice. Gym space is beautiful but always filled with school groups as the schools don't have enough spaces (yay for the comm center supporting local schools but also why are they not supporting their own activities?) Staff at desk has been consistently rude or at a minimum seem annoyed you're there. I don't go anymore unless the grandkids are visiting and the weather is too sucky for beach time. It's just ... meh.
