We rented the Chandler Ballroom + Kitchen for an afternoon/evening. The Ballroom was spacious, easily seating our ~115 guests, and well-lit, with large, north-facing windows providing ample indirect light. We were pleased that the room came with tables & chairs and with the professional-grade kitchen appliances. The large ovens & refrigerator were perfect for storing and reheating our food. Sarah, the staff member with whom we worked, made the entire process very easy! She was flexible, knowledgeable, and responded quickly to our many questions. She gave us a diagram of the Ballroom's floorplan that she made, which was incredibly helpful, and gave us a tip about looking at Special Occasions in Corvallis for event rental services (tablecloths, tableware, etc). To top it all off, the venue rental was reasonably priced - it was much more affordable than other options in Corvallis & Portland. Thank you very much to the CCC and Sarah for helping make our wedding plans a reality! If we ever need to plan a large gathering in Corvallis in the future, the CCC will be our first choice :)

As someone who has volunteered at the California Raptor Center in Davis, CA for 3 years (and counting) and is also a primary handler/trainer of two education ambassadors (a Swainson's Hawk and a Peregrine Falcon), as well as an aspiring falconer, I am pretty well-versed in raptors. Therefore, Cascades Raptor Center was a no-brainer stop on our trip. It was a pretty warm day, as OR had just experienced a heat wave. The raptor center overall was very well-kept, with over 30 education ambassadors on display. All the enclosures were very clean and organized. There were various trainers in several enclosures working with their respective birds when we went, and one volunteer even had a peregrine falcon out on glove for the public to enjoy up close and to ask questions about. We actually made it just in time for the last flight show of the season, and boy was it a blast!! Hans the Eurasian-Eagle-Owl was the star of the show, but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire program. As you can see in the photos below, I snapped some lovely shots of the birds with my DSLR. Here I am sharing some of my favorites. The admission fee was worth it, especially as the raptor center mainly functions from donations. We also shopped at the little gift shop after for some mementos to take home. I would love to revisit on our next trip to OR!

Fantastic place to bring kids up to 5 years old on a rainy day in McMinnville…read more We're visiting from out of town and we aren't used to all this rainy Oregon weather. So we tried to go to the other indoor playground, but they were closed. We were loitering in the parking lot and I asked a mom if there was any other place we could go. She suggested the Community Center and she took off super quick; I think she suspicioned that I was hitting on her. Anyway, we came here to find a friendly statue of Abraham Lincoln on a welcoming bench. Then we went inside to find friendly customer service at the front desk. It seems they have a lot of other facilities in the building, but we were there just for the toddlers playroom. It's for kids up to 5 years old. They welcomed us for our one-year-old and also let in our 6-year-old as long as she respected the other kids and the toys. It's a small fee for all-day use, with come-and-go privileges. They have a bunch of different kinds of toys that are best suited for kids 5 years or less. They have cooking sets, baby sets, toy cars and ride-in cars, balls, play mats, a couple small play structures, and small book shelf. There is a diaper changing table with wipes, bags for dirty diapers, and trash cans. One room has a tiled floor where people can eat snacks. The other, connected room is carpeted with no food allowed. Extra wipes are there for parents to clean toys after use. It seemed like the other clientele were regulars. They were nice enough and outgoing at times. I highly recommend this place on rainy days for locals and visitors alike. I'm sure there are bathrooms, but we didn't check them out. Limited off-street parking on all sides of the building, plus limited free parking on the street. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

She liked the people and atmosphere at Parkland but was hesitant with uncertainties. The community relations director, Marie Jennings was very considerate of my mom's feelings and reassured us that when the time was right everything would work out. Three weeks later my mother told me she wanted to make the move. We called Marie who told that an apartment had just become available. No sales pressure, just waiting for us to say yes to the move and things happened very rapidly in an in the elder care environment which is so often overshadowed with clouds of insufficiency. My mother is still quite the foodie and likes the food at Parkland, especially the soup. One of the first things I noticed was the happy and visible caregivers who always seem to be working in teams. My mother has lots of health issues and does lots of complaining but she likes the caregivers who finish her care with hugs and reassurances. I see her smiling when they leave. My wife and I travel part of the year. Recently my mother's motorized wheelchair broke down. She was quite distraught and wanted me to come home and fix it right away. This was impossible. I called the Parkland triage person and asked if the maintenance person could take a look to see if some simple and basic was the problem. This did not happen. When I arrived at Parkland a week later I discovered the charger had simply come unplugged. I brought this to the attention of Marie. She gave my wife and I options for how this could be handled. At our request she called the people involved who by the way are very busy, into her office. We talked about how important it is that when my wife and I are away we can feel good about my mother's safety and well being. Everybody makes mistakes but Marie Jennings handled this situation as a true caring professional. Thank you Marie and Parkland staff. You are all amazing. Elwyn Behnke

The criteria I used was extensive but the main reason for my choice was the happiness I saw in the residents and the overall positive environment that they lived in. Most everyone had a smile on their face and I saw whole families having lunch or just visiting with their loved ones. I also thought the living space in the apartments and studios were nice and light and bright. The only reason I did not give Parkland 5 stars is because my mother is not yet a resident there so I can not speak from her experience. In my opinion, Parkland is a wonderful place for a loved one and I would rest easy if my mom becomes a resident of this facility.
