I worked for Bedford Learning Programs for all of two weeks until I decided to leave. I observed so many unsafe situations happening. Directors and the owner Toni herself are not interested in preventing incidents but rather overworking their staff and overfilling locations. There is very little coverage for call outs and thus parents get told frequently they cannot bring their child to daycare because of state approved ratios (ie. they legally cannot take on too many kids if there is not enough adults). Additionally, there is not enough space or attention provided to each child and often the children with more concerning behaviors are the soul focus of the teacher and children who are doing well, fly so beneath the radar. This was the biggest issue I faced being the infant teacher. One of the babies developed a flat head because he spent so much time (prior to my being there) laying on his back while the teacher had to attend to older children because the babies were often forced to be in the older kids area when their teacher was gone or had the day off, it became the infant teacher's responsibility to tend to two babies under 9 months and up to four children ages 1-2. This was unsafe because children at that age are still learning boundaries and how to be around babies. No matter if I was right next to the babies, they were getting poked in the eyes, bookshelves almost falling on them, toys being thrown from across the room and hitting them...the list goes on. I expressed these safety concerns with my supervisors and Toni as well and was ignored. I was being told "It shouldn't be an issue if you're right next to them". It was devastating. All I wanted to do was spend time and teach my class (the infants) whom were at the stage of needing to learn how to crawl. It didn't feel possible to engage and build that relationship with them to see them grow and develop because support was so scarce.
All in all, please consider if your child will thrive in that kind of environment, especially if they are under a year, or if it is just a cheap and quick option. I understand that Toni can be inviting and persuasive, but please take what she says with a grain of salt. I know this review will fall on deaf ears to the people who have already bought in to the illusion Toni has sold to them, but I am hoping to at least provide a caution to prospecting parents. read more
