They both really like that they are being taught real-life defensive skills as well as the martial "art," and I can see marked growth in their self confidence and assertiveness. The older daughter comes as often as she can. The younger, homebody daughter rarely leaves the house enthusiastically for anything, but is always in a good mood by the end of class. They both tried classes at another martial arts facility in town, but felt that this one was more welcoming and supportive.

There are only a handful of Poekoelan schools in the entire country, and Corvallis is incredibly lucky to have one. Geoff Wathen, the founder of Golden Naga and the main instructor, has put a ton of personal TLC into the development of the school, and it shows, in the quality of the instruction and the dedication of the students. Geoff himself is an amazing practitioner, a fantastic teacher, and an all around great human being. Definitely check the school out; you will be glad you did.

I am writing to report serious cleanliness and safety concerns at the spa. Over the past two…read moremonths--while visiting daily--I observed persistent mold around the rim of the spa, on the walk-in support handle, and on the window sills. I have never seen the sauna or hot tub room cleaned during that time. On two occasions I became extremely ill after visits and feared for my health. I asked staff who were cleaning the steam room to address the hot tub area and window sills, but they failed to do so. I also discovered a large clump of pubic hair in the public steam room, which is unacceptable. Despite maintaining my membership and returning sporadically to check for improvements, conditions have only worsened. Additionally, I experienced disrespectful and inappropriate behavior from other patrons while in the sauna: I was mocked, whistled at, and even approached in a way that felt like harassment. I witnessed underage girls making advances toward patrons, which is deeply troubling for a facility that should be safe and peaceful. These issues indicate a pattern of poor cleanliness practices and inadequate supervision. I will be reporting these concerns to the local health department. I urge management to address sanitation practices, staff training, and patron conduct immediately to ensure the facility is safe and welcoming for all guests. Most of the equipment has been poorly maintained and or is broken as well. Its best to be honest so here you go, this place has a sign in the front of the building saying they have the finest spa in the area, not true.

While this gym is clean, has a good inventory of equipment, and great hours,…read moreit is undermanaged ... if managed at all. It seems that there is always a piece of equipment that is "out of service" ... they wait until something breaks, before doing the maintenance on it. It isn't unusual for equipment to be "out of service" for more than a month. My biggest beef with this gym, is although they have a good set of "Gym Use Rules" ... pretty much the standard set for any good gym, they do not enforce these rules AT ALL! It's not uncommon for circuit machines to be tied up with members that aren't actually using the equipment ... they just need a place to sit and surf the net comfortably. There are a lot of courteous gym members there but it only takes a few to really get in the way of getting your routine finished. I think this is a legitimate complaint, a common complaint for many gyms, but unfortunately as I said ... the facility is undermanaged, if managed at all. They do not "do complaints".

I am a member here…read more Pros.: It's inexpensive, good equipment (mid-line pre-core), great hours, good location, it's clean most of the time, staffed by living wage paid professionals, it's not all one gender, it's accessible, few free weights (so few people pretending to be weight lifters), children not allowed, it's new-ish. Also serves a diverse and under served clientele, a lot of the people "working out" here you can tell it's their first time. Private showers. It costs me about $35 a month. Cons: Stark lighting (to bright perhaps?), weird open (not considered) layout (it has weird acoustic issues). For instance you can have people having a conversation with each other from 20 feet away with two people sitting and working in-between. No towel service, chemical wet whips everywhere, no attendants the majority of the day (doesn't always feel safe or clean), draconian monitoring (cameras) of your every move (I know it's needed because it's not attended, but it still little creepy), it's sort of basic. It's in a tight badly designed side of a strip mall and mall's vendors have restrictive parking.
