Unfortunately, I have to give them this review and to warn prospective members: Back in June I put my membership on hold for 90 days after an injury. When they 90 days was up and it was clear to me that I could no longer work out, I contacted them through their website contact form to cancel my membership. I just found out that they've been charging me for the last two months. When I contacted them the manager was very kind and said she'd look into securing a refund -- knowing that I did not once enter the building for the last six months -- and did follow up. But they are refusing to provide a refund, stating that they have no record of my email on their end. But that is not my fault or responsibility. I'm disappointed and would caution any members or prospective members to make sure you have a paper trail of everything.

Clean and well-organized facility including bathroom and locker room 4. Great facility hours 5. One of the two USPA certified gyms in Oregon I can honestly go on and on but those are the few things that could not go wrong. I was recommended to try out powerlifting meet this beginning of the year back in Jan. I started to come to Downings back in October last year 2021 mainly because of the competition reason. And because of this, I met so many great peers and coaches who honestly leveled up my lifting passion to a whole different level. Every single day I walk in there I promise myself I will learn something new. I specifically built a great coaching relationship with Pete. He has been helping me with pretty much everything related to my training. I have never really had a coach before watching me lift and give me advices like him. Words cannot describe how grateful I am. On top of that, he not only help me but also helping other athletes without asking for anything in return. Just not too long ago during my training session. There were a group of guys coming in and trying to get a lift in. Pete said hi to them and helped them with their lifting techniques immeditately after that. I did not talk to him about it but at the moment I realized how genuine he is not just as a coach but as an individual. The actions speak louder than words and words can't describe how great he treats his athletes/customers. All the reasons made me decide to continue pursuing powerlifting. After my first competition I thought I would want to take a break from powerlifting. Turned out this is just the beginning of it and I am looking forward to the bright future.

While this gym is clean, has a good inventory of equipment, and great hours,…read moreit is undermanaged ... if managed at all. It seems that there is always a piece of equipment that is "out of service" ... they wait until something breaks, before doing the maintenance on it. It isn't unusual for equipment to be "out of service" for more than a month. My biggest beef with this gym, is although they have a good set of "Gym Use Rules" ... pretty much the standard set for any good gym, they do not enforce these rules AT ALL! It's not uncommon for circuit machines to be tied up with members that aren't actually using the equipment ... they just need a place to sit and surf the net comfortably. There are a lot of courteous gym members there but it only takes a few to really get in the way of getting your routine finished. I think this is a legitimate complaint, a common complaint for many gyms, but unfortunately as I said ... the facility is undermanaged, if managed at all. They do not "do complaints".

Also serves a diverse and under served clientele, a lot of the people "working out" here you can tell it's their first time. Private showers. It costs me about $35 a month. Cons: Stark lighting (to bright perhaps?), weird open (not considered) layout (it has weird acoustic issues). For instance you can have people having a conversation with each other from 20 feet away with two people sitting and working in-between. No towel service, chemical wet whips everywhere, no attendants the majority of the day (doesn't always feel safe or clean), draconian monitoring (cameras) of your every move (I know it's needed because it's not attended, but it still little creepy), it's sort of basic. It's in a tight badly designed side of a strip mall and mall's vendors have restrictive parking.

I appreciate their kindness and ability to keep me motivated during the workout. I even hit it off with a few members and looked forward to seeing them at our class. However::: The music is incredibly loud, even with ear plugs. If you find it a challenge to concentrate with loud music, you've been warned. They do not offer ear plugs. (Not when I was there anyways). There's no showers, no locker rooms. Shared cubbies on the workout floor seemed to be just fine for their programs. I had a week long freebie and then took the $190 plunge for a one month-to-month membership. The cost really bothered me. I spoke to many trainers and front desk folks about the cost being incredibly high and they all understood but that was it. There was a good membership sale which I almost signed up for: an 18 month contract (it was a much better monthly price at $120ish) but wised up after reading online about gym memberships about being notoriously insane to get out of once you sign. On their contract it says that if the business closes for any reason (including pandemics) but continue to offer online courses, you will not be let out of your contract. NOPE. I do not have a crystal ball and I find these kind of contracts unsettling. I had more clarifying questions, and the front desk person continued to tell me how much she LOVED seeing me and that I MADE the experience GREAT. I asked her to tone it down and be authentic, but she continued to express how much Burn LOVES me. Really? You don't even know me! This person I had seen twice and she did not tone it down when I asked her to. If you have disposable income and want to get your ass kicked and need childcare, this is a good fit for you. As a single person on a budget without a need for childcare, Burn was a rip-off. When I emailed to cancel my membership, I had a feeling i would run into problems, so I put a hold on my card. Its a good thing I did because it took them 5 days to reply, and the person who replied to my email was incredibly rude blaming me for "too late notice for canceling" and that I "was lucky he would not continue to run my card". Budgeted-buyer-beware. Also, why is it so expensive? I hope those trainers are making $150+/session because it is they who are the stars of the show.
