It's been awhile since I've been to the gym. A longgggg while. I was looking around for a gym in…read moreLebanon and decided to try out NWFit. Part of it is because I've always been a team sport player or runner, but have never really learned how to use gym equipment. As we know, you can definitely workout the wrong way and risk injuring yourself. I'm not old old, but old enough that if I hurt myself I will be at risk for longer recovery. Not a good plan. What I appreciate about NWFit is they offer a "No Sweat Consultation" session where you meet with the trainer (Nolan, who is also the owner) and discuss your goals and current lifestyle. Nolan is very friendly and does not make you feel like you are a lazy blob. He explains his approach to fitness and sees if it aligns with your goals. You have the option to sign up for group session or one-on-one, obviously pricing will be different. There is no annual membership fee or sign up cost. You pay weekly and have the option for how many days you plan on coming and prices reflect the number of days. For my current goals, he suggested going with the option that allows me to attend group sessions 4-6 day a week. In hindsight, I know myself better than that, I should have eased into this. I definitely felt stressed when I missed a day. My biggest challenge was the class times. I am not a morning person at all and I work basically 8-5 hours. No way I was making the 5 or 6 AM classes. I suppose you can make the argument that if my health was important, I'd wake up to go. I love my sleep though and sleep is also important. Case closed. The latest class is 6PM but that's not every day. Prior to attending an actual group class, you meet with Nolan so he can evaluate your current fitness level to cater the workouts to you. Yes, it is a group session, but the way he runs it, it can be adjusted to your needs and level. I attended only 3 of the 4-6 days my first week. See, I failed. But mannnnn did those sessions do me good. I was exhausted, but a good exhausted. I didn't feel like I overdid it during the sessions, but definitely challenged physically. I think it was originally intended to be a crossfit gym, but Nolan mentioned he's going away from that. The workouts are more focused on strength and flexibility. This combination allows for effective workouts and prevention of injury. Good things! There was never more than 8 people on any of the days I attended. It was a small intimate feel. He did mentioned it can sometimes get up to 15-16 people and he tries to cap it at 20 people max. Due to it being summer and my schedule is irregular, I was able to reach out to Nolan and ask for my membership to be paused temporarily. When I'm ready to come back, I just send him a un-pause email. Super easy.

The Gym has all the basics for most muscles groups and a nice free weight dumbbell set. The gym…read moreitself though is in utter disarray. The gym needs some major updating on the inside. I'm pretty sure the blinds that are held by weights are from the original bank the building use to be. Still has the old original bank carpet it looks like on the floors. The whole building is a flash back from the 70's and not in a good way. There's holes in walls. It's very dark inside most of the lights are burnt out. AC I don't think works, feels like a sauna. I found a board blocking a hole in the corner that looked like a mouse hole. Two major spots with broken mirror GLASS on the wall that hasn't been touched in the months I've been here, waiting for someone to cut themselves. I've seen people bring their kids inside. Talk about a law suit waiting to happen. I've seen multiple pieces of equipment broke with no out of service signs and has never got fixed still broken. Most of the bench's are cracked and wearing holes. The screws that hold the plates onto the dumbbells back out all the time. Just waiting for one to land on my face. Half the buttons on the treadmills don't work and I could hear one of the ellipticals rattling so bad everyone in the gym was staring because we thought it was about to fall apart. I walked past the same trash can multiple times for at least a month that was overflowing. The mens bathroom has carpet on the floor in the changing room and in the toilet stall GROSS! . Also the the showers in the mens bathroom as like 3 heads and it's all open. It's not high school. I'm not looking to shower naked with a bunch of other men. Plus the tile in the mens bath room looks like Bigfoot had an abortion on it. I wouldn't walk on it with 10ft stilts. I'm not sure if the owners of this gym just choose not to hire a manger or invest any money into their building and do basic maintenance and repairs but it's clear its either lacking the money for it or they just turn a blind eye. I don't want to shit all over their business cause it's a local gym but come on, at least take care of Your equipment. The product that makes you money! The reason your paying customers are there. I can't even find an email or a phone number on their website to tell them of their broken machines. I honestly would send people to tornado fitness in Aumsville instead. I really hope this gym gets the love and care it needs.

I go during the week in the day and have the place to myself many times. You don't have all the "gym rats" and "grunters" most of the time. You do get a group of annoying teenage boys in the late evenings sometimes who leave the place a mess at times and you have to put their weights back and clean up after them. I think a few random trips at night by the owners would deter this. There is a 24hr Fitness in town but it is very small and doesn't have half the equipment this one does, which is much better bang for the buck I think.
