He loaned me a couple of E110 subs to demo at home. He reached out via text to see how I was doing and negotiate a possible purchase. When I told him I was interested in demoing the E112's he told me they only one, he tried to sell me the 10 and 12 inch sub at a discount. I wasn't interested, as the size difference would bug me too much. So he asked me if was interested in anything else. I told him I was also interested in a direct to consumer subwoofer brand from Norway. Well I guess that upset him because he told me to return the subs right away, and that I would not be in his "VIP club". Needless to say, I returned the subs and did not make a purchase. This sucks because I really wanted to support a cool local Hifi shop like Mike's. But if he can't accept the fact that people are cross shopping consumer direct brands, he has a rude awakening coming. One star is for the staff, they have been nothing but amazing. In the end, I found a deal online for a pair of E112's that was better than what Mike could offer.

I was pretty happy with my experience. The specific speakers I was looking for were not on display in a listening room, but rather kind of on a display intended to showcase the entire line of B&W gear. Rather than make me stand awkwardly and listen to them, the sales person (Dave) moved them in to a listening room for me. Much better experience, and something he definitely wouldn't have had to do. Even though I hadn't brought my music that day, Dave ran me through a couple of his recommended demo discs, things that highlighted capabilities, etc. Very enjoyable. When I came back, he basically left me alone for almost two hours while I listened to some of my own CDs. No qualms about just giving me the remotes, and letting me go to town. He checked in periodically to make sure I didn't have questions, but didn't hover and make me feel uncomfortable. Dave was pretty upfront about being new to the store, having come from a different hi-fi retailer (I think Tweeter, may they rest in peace), so he wasn't bashful about saying "I don't know - let me get you an answer" when confronted with a question he couldn't answer. Much more satisfying that trying to BS me. And overall, he was very knowledgeable, and not snobbish audiophile about the specific music I listened to. No, not all of it is perfect...but it is what's gonna get played. So it's important that it at least sound decent. Additionally, I'm upgrading from a pretty Best Buy class stereo, and I told him I was just looking for speakers. He respected that, and made some recommendations as far as "here's what I would do as my next upgrade" but didn't insist that buying speakers was pointless without a couple thousand dollars worth of new amplifiers to go along with it, which was nice. I mean, maybe it is pointless, but he at least respected that I wasn't going to buy 500W monoblock amps that very instant. And when it came time to finally plunk down that cash, he didn't try to up-sell me on stuff I didn't want. I'm on the fence about your expensive interconnect and speaker cables. So yes, I'll probably buy some, someday. What I have now is decent, and when I said, "For right now I'll just use what I have," he accepted that without trying to pressure me. I did end up picking up a used amplifier that had been used as an in store demo piece - and that's where the star got lost. Another sales person tried to convince me to buy two identical amplifiers, and bi-amp/bi-wire my speakers. Yeah, that would have been super sweet, but I wasn't intending to spend the money on an amp that day anyway (only did it because of the amazing price) so I felt that might have been a bit of a money grab..."maybe we can get him to buy *two* amplifiers!!" But, all in all, I would recommend this as a place to listen. Kind of a limited brand range - I saw B&W and Klipsch speakers only, Marantz, Rotel, Sony, and McIntosh source/amplifiers only. So great for me, since I was pretty limited to B&W and Rotel or Marantz as far as brands I was interested in, but if you're walking in with a blank slate, your options might be a bit limited. Maybe it'd be best to say, Barrett's carries only your popular premium brands, and not the less common boutique brands.

Once he was here, we asked him his opinion on two wall switches in a different room that were not working, and he stayed longer (while I ran to Home Depot for new toggle switches) to fix both of them as well for just a little more added to our total. The fan install was a little more difficult than Ted anticipated, and it was an insane night in our home as well (my husband's car was at the shop and he needed it for work the next day so we had to get that taken care of while Ted was here working) - I'm sure he thought we were nuts, but he was very gracious and understanding about everything! The end results look great, and I am SO happy our light switches are working again - all of this was done for a third of the cost we were quoted by someone else to just do the install and paint the office ceiling (we ended up doing the painting ourselves anyway). We will definitely be calling on Ted in the future for all our other electical needs - he is knowledeable, quick, and neat. Thanks, Ted! My task in progress because my application is more complicated than normal. I needed an automotive…read moreremote key card. I shopped around but the most value was ordering it online from an automotive remote site. I interacted with Adam and he was able to show up on the early weekend morning. His text are professional and clear, & he included pictures. Mazda even as far back as 2005 (car was delayed as released as an 2006) used a key card. There is a chip in the card and one in the valet key. Mazda blank metal doesn't have all the slots cut into the blank either. Getting the car to go into reprogram mode didn't work because the console said I need two "keys." However there is a chip in both the medal key and card. So one transmitter set will work, or should have. He drove an hour back and forth to get the other generic key and had to modify it with a Dremel rotary tool so that the key would have tolerance to get through the tabs on the ignition. That didn't work and he is coming back next week to try again with just another chipped key. Didn't charge a trip fee for making a round trip, nor for the generic key that didn't work. I will spread the word within the MazdaSpeed group so they can get help if the elect to get the Mazda key card instead of generic. At least have one original card and one generic real key. At this point I elected to tow it to Mazda DG for them to try with my key. Because if I buy theirs, its considered an "installed electronic part," and they won't accept returns. Too risky for $400. If they can do it I just pay for 1/2 hour of programming. Worst case I have to buy their key, mine is also OEM (not eBay/Amazon). His company slogan should be either 'The Locksmith from Lockport,' or 'The Lockport Locksmith.'

If you need anything with keys or locks to be fixed, look no further! After having gone to TWO…read moredifferent ace hardwares to make copies of a house key (unsuccessfully!! They didn't work and I spent HOURS driving back and forth to have them try again, and ultimately to return them), Mark made copies of the key quickly and they worked! and when we needed some springs in our lock fixed, Mark was responsive! He told me he would arrive in about an hour, and about ten minutes out gave me a courtesy call to let me know he was close by. He not only fixed the lock, he also tightened up the screws and the screen door (that would slam shut previously). Mark was courteous, kind, professional and knowledgeable throughout the whole experience. Definitely going with Mark again anytime we have any key/lock needs! Thank you!
