Legend has it that the Pie is SO good, folk even get it to take away. There's a Sunday Pub Quiz, Saturday DJ, and sport on the big screens. So why folk want a takeaway is a mystery to me!

Recently refurbished, they have split the main bar away from the Bistro to allow children to enter and reduce the noise. Good plan! The menu has been overhauled and they don't have as many dishes on the menu as before which is a lot better for the kitchen ensuring quality over quantity. I ordered King Prawns with Calamari, my mom Haggis Fritters and my sister in law Black Pudding in Breadcrumbs with a Chilli Sauce. No complaints. They were tasty and well presented. We then ordered Balmoral Chicken, Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burger. Portions are extremely good for the price, food was cooked fresh to order and of a good quality. There was only 1 staff member within the bistro when I was in looking after 4 tables, which was okay but we did have to wait at times to be served; not her fault though. The dishes are a little expensive for a Bar Bistro in Erskine, but you'd expect to pay more if you dined in Glasgow for the quality and size of the portions. Our bill for 2 courses and numerous drinks for 3 people came to around £56. Not THAT bad when you think of it. All in all, the Whuppity Scourie is much better than it's predecessors and I hope it's hear to stay.

Update, I have now sent many emails to head office and still no reply after a month. My Facebook…read morereviews have been taken down? The table was booked, meaning that they did not lose any money in me having to cancel. Shocked at their unprofessional behaviour. Very disappointed, as we have regulars for many years now because of their gluten free menu. We booked a table for next week and had to pay the £10 deposit each. When telephoned I was clearly told that if I cancel 24 hours before I will get a refund on my deposit. I've now been told that you do not get your deposit back! So annoyed at this. Taking advantage of people. I won't be returning or recommending Duck Bay. When you pay your deposit, do not expect to get it back! Shocking service! Update, Duck Bay have removed their Facebook page with my reviews. Shame on them. This is my email to head office. I had a booking made for 4 people on the 31st December 2025. Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, this had to be cancelled. I gave 6 days notice, giving you plenty of time to rebook the table. I have in the past cancelled and not been charged. The deposit is to be taken on the day of the booking, and not taken in advance as it had been on this occasion. There is no clear cancellation policy online. On your policy, nowhere does it state a cancellation charges or time limits on cancellation? I did call Duck Bay and was informed that a deposit would be returned if cancelled 24 hours prior. Friends and neighbours have also always had their deposits returned if cancelled before 24 hours. I did ask to rebook and was told that I would need to pay another £40 deposit? I have checked online and there is no availability for a table at 5pm today. You have made no loss and are legally obliged to return my deposit of £40. I am deeply disappointed at the way this matter has been handled. Me and my family are local and regularly visit Duck Bay. After this experience I will not be returning. You clearly do not care much about your existing customers. I will also be writing reviews on our poor experience. Under the Consumer Rights Act you can only withhold a deposit to the extent that it is fair compensation for any losses or inconvenience they incur due to the cancellation. If you easily rebook the table, you're likely owed most or all of it back, as UK consumer law requires fair terms, and keeping a deposit for a minor loss is unfair. Fair Terms: A business can only keep a deposit if it's a fair term, covering their actual losses, not just to make a profit. A week's notice is usually enough time for a popular restaurant to rebook, meaning actual loss might be minimal, making it unfair for you to keep the whole deposit.

My husband got the eggs Benedict and he was pleased it had black pudding in the middle, very Scottish food of course. He did not care for the hollandaise sauce as it had a sweetness to it. I wasn't super hungry as I was saving room for our lunch at 1pm. I got two poached eggs and toast. The poached eggs were a bit runny for my liking. Overall though this is a great cafe and I like the layout. The service was very friendly. They were setting up a bunch of reserved tables for what looked like a fancy lunch. Lot of people were working there at the time and I assume prepping for a big party.

The staff greeted us warmly and invited us in to their warm and cozy establishment. This is small town Scotland at its best. I was surprised at the worldliness of the Salt and Pepper Asian-style fries on the Daily Specials board. They were amazing as was my "Hybrid Toastie" - essentially a Scottish patty melt. Not that it was mundane in any sense. It was delicious! I washed these down with a Diet Irn Bru - the guilt-free version of Scotland's most popular soda. Once again - another great meal with friendly service. Nowhere close to Edinburgh, yet still with that flair of sophistication mixed with small-town civility.
