Chipheads Computer Repair Shop - Before repair - lots of not-so-cute dust bunnies and sticky spill on the touchpad. Not sure how considering no one else sees this laptop.

Jarret is an exceptional team manager and gets five stars. My laptop is happy, which means I am…read morehappy. A while back, I contacted Chipheads for a comparison quote on the replacement of a laptop keyboard and frame after a water spill fried a touchpad. The first place I had visited for a quote was a lovely one-man shop that quoted me $300 minimum for the repair - and that was with full awareness that I'd already purchased my own replacement parts and therefore all cost on his part was purely labor. He also communicated clearly that accessing the keyboard area required moving multiple parts he was not entirely familiar with and laughed that he would have to give me the $2000+ laptop he'd tried to sell me if the repair didn't go well. I left the establishment unconvinced of his capability to fix my also $2000+ design powerhouse that had not left my side since I got her. Enter Chipheads. I contacted via the general email address on the website, outlining the general situation and requesting a quote. Chipheads teammate Scott responded, and the quote he gave was comparable. I then emailed to confirm that I'd ordered the right parts before making the decision to put my laptop basically in the hospital right before I was going to be gone for a full two weeks, so I wouldn't be able to get her back even if the parts were wrong and repairs could not be done. Scott never responded to that email, and I had to leave for my out-of-town event. When I'm home, I rely on my laptop heavily, so dropping off when I'm not occupied with an event is not ideal. When another long event came up on my schedule, I contacted Chipheads again, this time creating a new email thread directing back to the general email address - the previous thread had directed to Scott's email address after we connected. I admit that I was hoping that I would connect with Jarret this time, and I did. He responded not only quickly but also giving me the option of a two-week repair period for less than $200. I'd be occupied with my event for exactly that amount of time anyway, so this was perfect. When I arrived the day before my event started, Jarret was with another guest. Both the impression that the first shop had given me about the delicate nature of my repair and my own experience in tinkering with laptops and electronics in general added to why I specifically waited to speak directly with Jarret given the impression of reliability he gave me in our correspondence. I dropped my laptop off with Jarret the day before my event started. Less than 48 hours later, he called to let me know that my laptop was ready for pickup. That was back in August. I specifically waited to ensure that the laptop was in perfect working order before leaving a review. It's now October. Safe to say, my laptop is in good health. Dropping one star for Scott dropping the ball on communication. Regardless, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Chipheads for your repair and upgrade needs.

But after many "I am sorry" and "thank you for your patience" I finally took it to Computer Fixx in Eden Prairie. John explained that they have several possible ways to get the files recovered and get the computer going again. After a day and a half, John called and said the computer was ready. They had checked the computer over completely. They found that Lenovo had put the incorrect mother board in and some of the other configurations were also incorrect. John and his team get a FIVE PLUS rating from me for both their honesty and speed in which they fixed the computer. I highly recommend John and his team for the work they did and could not be more happy. Lenovo sure is not IBM, in fact far from it. Roger S

As luck would have it, it fell off the couch and hit the hardwood floors hard. it stopped working properly. I took it to Computer Fixx in Eden Prairie and I couldn't be more happy with the results. John was amazing! Turns out my computer gave him a run for his money and he would fix one thing, and another would go wrong. He covered all additional fixes under warranty of the original, very reasonable, payment. He didn't give up until I had a fully functioning laptop. I couldn't recommend them more highly. Fast, friendly effective service at a very reasonable price!!!

I reached out multiple times and got no updates at all. On Friday afternoon, I called them again and after a long, unclear conversation, they asked for more time. At 5:17 PM, I finally received a diagnostic video. They then told me the computer couldn't be repaired and the only option was a new motherboard costing over $800. Immediately after, they tried to sell me a brand‑new HP and quoted just over $1,200 including a data transfer. (I had already backed up everything to OneDrive, so the data transfer was unnecessary), and they were going to charge me for it. When I picked up my computer today, the person admitted he never reached out, never provided progress updates, and was not transparent that the diagnostic wasn't completed within the timeframe. The missed deadlines, lack of communication, upselling, and attempt to charge for services I didn't need left me feeling misled and taken advantage of. I cannot recommend Easy IT based on this experience.

I found out from Brett that the screen is "pre-assembled" with a different home button, which may or may not be new, possibly from another phone they repaired. Well, not only did I not want to pay $200 for a refurb replacement, I didn't want a different phone with lame iOS 6. I was pretty sure those world of wireless places would fix it, but to be honest, I was leery of leaving my phone, with my nudie pics and bank account info at the cell phone pawn shop. I briefly considered ordering a kit and fixing it myself, but decided I wasn't prepared to go w/o my phone if I frigged it up. So I did what I always do: turn to yelp. I saw iDoctor had 5 stars, and also read a review that said they got their phone fixed at the wireless place and had to have it re-fixed here anyway (made me feel better about my pre-judgement!). Anyhow, I made an appt because I went on a Saturday, but they do take walk-ins, time permitting. I dropped it off and it was ready before I was done devouring my Pasta Zola! Repair was $140 and he offers a sort of insurance/discount type of thing: for $20 he will fix it again for 1 yr, for $30 he will fix it twice in the next yr. I took him up on the $20 option and feel pretty good about it; gravity seems to be stronger around my phone for some reason!
