I dropped my "bratty" Inspiron off at Techie Dudes on a Wednesday and had a nice conversation with Will. (A good listener.) Will said to check back in a couple of days. I called on Friday afternoon and spoke to Erik. Erik said Will had left (service call) but he'd check on it as he had some time. About an hour later, Erik called me back and happily announced he got the Inspiron up and running. All good after five, test restarts! Erik was above and beyond. Used computers - twice…read more So, my 2008 Dell with Windows Vista (remember that?) died in summer 2013. I needed a new computer and I needed it STAT. I wanted Windows 7, which at that point was impossible to find something new, so used it was. Got a great computer for a good price. Well, my used one died and I wanted another, so ComputerFixx to rescue. They tried to fix it, but no such luck. The found another Windows 7 laptop for me and I was pleased. If this one dies, I know where I'm going.

We determined my hard drive needed to be wiped clean and reinstalled from my backup. He took my machine home and kept me informed via text. Mark returned the machine to me on Sunday afternoon. But that makes it a quick stop for me. Either they have what I'm looking for or they don't, and I can move on. They can build a system for you out of used Dell (business) computers for a reasonable price, too. They helped me troubleshoot an NVR, then sold me a new Hard Drive for it, and I've purchased a used monitor, new keyboards, cords, etc.

A while back, I contacted Chipheads for a comparison quote on the replacement of a laptop keyboard and frame after a water spill fried a touchpad. The first place I had visited for a quote was a lovely one-man shop that quoted me $300 minimum for the repair - and that was with full awareness that I'd already purchased my own replacement parts and therefore all cost on his part was purely labor. He also communicated clearly that accessing the keyboard area required moving multiple parts he was not entirely familiar with and laughed that he would have to give me the $2000+ laptop he'd tried to sell me if the repair didn't go well. I left the establishment unconvinced of his capability to fix my also $2000+ design powerhouse that had not left my side since I got her. Enter Chipheads. I contacted via the general email address on the website, outlining the general situation and requesting a quote. Chipheads teammate Scott responded, and the quote he gave was comparable. I then emailed to confirm that I'd ordered the right parts before making the decision to put my laptop basically in the hospital right before I was going to be gone for a full two weeks, so I wouldn't be able to get her back even if the parts were wrong and repairs could not be done. Scott never responded to that email, and I had to leave for my out-of-town event. When I'm home, I rely on my laptop heavily, so dropping off when I'm not occupied with an event is not ideal. When another long event came up on my schedule, I contacted Chipheads again, this time creating a new email thread directing back to the general email address - the previous thread had directed to Scott's email address after we connected. I admit that I was hoping that I would connect with Jarret this time, and I did. He responded not only quickly but also giving me the option of a two-week repair period for less than $200. I'd be occupied with my event for exactly that amount of time anyway, so this was perfect. When I arrived the day before my event started, Jarret was with another guest. Both the impression that the first shop had given me about the delicate nature of my repair and my own experience in tinkering with laptops and electronics in general added to why I specifically waited to speak directly with Jarret given the impression of reliability he gave me in our correspondence. I dropped my laptop off with Jarret the day before my event started. Less than 48 hours later, he called to let me know that my laptop was ready for pickup. That was back in August. I specifically waited to ensure that the laptop was in perfect working order before leaving a review. It's now October. Safe to say, my laptop is in good health. Dropping one star for Scott dropping the ball on communication. Regardless, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Chipheads for your repair and upgrade needs.

Honest and trustworthy…read more You know that feeling when you don't have a lot of knowledge and you're very happy the specialist knew they could take you through the ringer but didn't; due to being ethical and how happy you are at the end? That is the feeling I was left with after speaking with this establishment. Had an issue with my laptop's performance and was about to begin upgrading everything by deductive reasoning. Spoke with this business and they were VERY HONEST with me. We did some troubleshooting and they explained to me why it may be time to just consider replacing my laptop. They don't sell computers, they repair them. They definitely knew more than I could acquire through YouTube University so they could have easily taken my money, but they were honest and gave me options that would satisfy my goal but be cost effective as well.
