So killing 2 birds with one stone seems to be my motto this week. Took the kids to gymnastics open gym for $5 each kid at El Paso Gymnastics and realized after I'm due for an oil change. The gym had my number on file and assured me my kids were being watched over by instructors and I made my way to the car. I usually go to Costco for my oil change but since there's only one in El Paso, the wait is usually horrendous. I saw that the gym faced a autobody shop (Coronado Autobody) and I walked there and asked the mechanics if they had time for an oil change. They explained I had to go around to the front office and ask the receptionist, so I did. Wow, what I witnessed was CARE: Liz the receptionist asked and remembered every single client that walked in and what state of repair or disrepair their car was in. I felt like I was in good hands and then I spied a BEST OF YELP 2008 certificate on their wall, and my decision was validated. I went up and asked about the oil change not sure if they would take me 20 mins before closing. She was going to ask, but the nice mechanic came in and told her they would take me. Their prices were fair $40 for a standard oil change and $60 for full synthetic. They got me in and out of there in 20 mins. and it wasn't bells and whistles but seeing repeat clients and how much they trusted them made me feel sure they took care of my car as well. I had a problem with my steering column and AC but was going on a road trip. Of course I waited til the last minute. I took my car to a place I had used before but they couldn't do the repair & I lost a whole day with them. That afternoon I called and spoke to Liz @ Coronado Auto Repair and she said yes they could fix my problem. By the looks of the parking lot I was afraid my car was going to be there a couple days. I dropped it off early in the morning and within an hour and 15 minutes they gave me an estimate for the repairs & the approx. time I could pick it up. My bill was a little less than the amount I had researched online. When I picked up my car Liz showed me my damaged parts. She handles the front of the shop but is also a mechanic so she is very knowledgeable. It is a little challenging to call back on the phone but once you are there you are in good hands. There was nothing that they found and they suspect that it was either bad gas or just a hiccup of sorts. VERY knowledgeable husband and wife team, runs this busy garage. I started telling them my F150 was slowly leaking antifreeze. They finished my description by listing their suspensions just as I was. Talking in unison. It was a beautiful thing! So they LISTEN! They gave me a price to replace a "Better Idea" hose, with it's notoriously leaking hose clamps. It wasn't expensive, nor cheap. Reasonable. I was driving cross country and found them in El Paso on Yelp. The work was good. They were friendly, and HONEST! Highly recommend! read more

Having graduated from needing only oil changes to real mechanical work, I updated my review accordingly, and boy do I have news for you... Where to even begin. (Skip to the *** portion if you want the issue that really did it for me) (There's also a TL;DR recap at the bottom). Let's revisit the Prius oil change I previously mentioned. I recant my statement saying they forgot to put oil back in the engine. However, that meant there was something wrong with my Prius, as having no oil after a month from an oil change is a true sign that something isn't right. After discussing the possibility of them not putting oil in the car, I said that if that wasn't the case, then it meant there was something wrong with the car, I'd like a diagnostic or to at least be told what could cause it. Got the car back after another oil change, they told me there was nothing wrong with the car. Same issue after less than a month, my 2010 Prius had consumed 99% of the oil and the engine was in serious stress. This could have cost me my car as we were moving and drove it 2000 miles in four days. By the time it got to it's final destination the engine was almost dry. I also paid a substantial amount of money for them to fix the squeaky front end, which they told me was old struts that needed replacement. So replaced the struts. Guess what, still squeaks. My alignment is completely off now too. *** But now the real issue that brings me to update this review: Long story longer: I took my 2007 Ford F-150 for repair, I knew it needed a "new" rear end, which is to say refurbished since the truck is old. No engine lights, good breaks, good sounding engine, the old mechanic in Colorado did a complete checkup and gave the truck a clean bill of health, except for the differential needing replacement, which translated as the whole rear end needing replacement. That's fine, I thought, I'll have them change it here before I drive this truck the 2000 miles for my move (and it was at the same time as my Prius workup, so no time to realize I needed a different place). They do the work in a little over a week, I get the truck back, but the transmission isn't shifting out of 2nd gear... uh-hmm. Also, it now vibrates like crazy. So I take it back in. Why do I suddenly need to change my transmission... ok, fine old truck (skeptical here). I brought up the horrible vibration and that was ignored. Fast forward to a reconstructed transmission (Day's Transmission review) and getting ready for my move. As I'm always DRIVING the truck, I was unable to see what was happening in the rear right wheel, but luckily, I was the passenger the day before we drove out of town... that right rear wheel was so WOBBLY that I was surprised the whole thing hadn't fallen off! Which then explained the horrible vibration. I guess what they call a test drive doesn't go past 15 MPH because they missed both the transmission AND the wobble. Now, if you are going down I-10 at the speed limit (80MPH) and your wheel falls off, what could possibly go wrong? Something as simple as making a giant groove in the asphalt, or catastrophic deadly failure. Longer story still long. It was of course a weekend, and a holiday weekend at that, so these folks weren't around. I was able to lift the rear end and make the wheel in question roll, making the wobble even more noticeable. I had no choice but to unpack the damn truck, rent a U-Haul for $2000, and park the truck which was supposedly ready to go back at Coronado Auto Repair. For the next SIX weeks, it was story after story of when it "would be ready," followed by excuse after excuse as to what the hold up was. SIX WEEKS. If I had a choice I would have taken the truck elsewhere, but I paid $1600 to have it "fixed" in the first place; so either FIX it, or give the money back. Did they actually fix it? I don't know, a friend had to pick up the truck which is STILL in El Paso thanks to that original delay. My favorite part in all of this, all of my phone call attempts were docked. They have caller ID, and they had my phone number. I know this too because after they realized my friend's number whom would call for me, they also started mysteriously not answering her calls. I had to have people show up in person to get any answers or hope someone would return my texts TL;DR Did not fix the Prius, did not check to see what the oil consumption issue was, or if they did they didn't tell me; I drove the car 2000 miles over 4 days and almost killed my engine because of it. Did not appropriately fix the rear end of my F-150, the 1st refurbished part they acquired was complete garbage, then kept the truck for SIX WEEKS while they "fixed" it, excuse after excuse. Cost me an extra $2000 in a U-Haul rental, and will cost me another $1500-$2000 to ship the truck to my new location or fly out to get it and drive it They also docked every single one of my phone calls I get Covid is causing everyone issues, but this was well beyond that read more

I took my car in today to get an emission check. There was no waiting and they were able to do it within a few minutes. The best part was aimed was not even charged to get th emission check. I went to BMW the other day and they were going to charge me $18.95 and they said it was a state fee. I highly recommend coming here read more

*EDIT TO UPDATE: full description of the issue in pictures. They have already tried to defend themselves on google and all of my documentation (receipts, communications, etc) prove their lies. I do not and would never recommend this shop to anyone who needs anything more than a basic oil change or brake replacement. I am completely disappointed and upset over this situation and Coronado Auto's blatant disregard for ethical business practices. Due to character limitations, here is the most basic outline of the events causing this complaint: 1. We were given one price, and charged considerably more by the time the job was done, when the scope of work had not changed. Ethically, mechanics cannot charge more than 10% more than the agreed-upon amount without discussing it with a customer first. Neither Liz nor Frank did that. I have proof of this fact, and they refused to do anything to rectify the situation. 2. Coronado auto has had horrible communication. They do not answer their business phone, and the only way one can get a hold of them is by calling Liz on her cell phone, or texting her. Even then, it takes an enormous amount of time to get a response, if any, and this lack of communication is made a bad situation worse. There have also been several instances, specifically early on in this process and then towards the end when I was pushing for a completion date, where I was told that the vehicle was going to be ready by a certain day, only to find out that it was not. Bringing this fact to the attention of Liz and Frank, has literally not even been acknowledged once. 3. Coronado Auto his had my vehicle for 6 MONTHS, with no offer for alternative transportation. This timeframe is completely outrageous and they are now attempting to blame me for it regardless of the fact that my portion of the part procurement was handled in just under 6 WEEKS, and they had said part in their possession for almost 3 months before they began putting the car back together. read more

I have been here twice. The last time I visited this place was January 5, 2017. My vw beetle was leaking coolant. They replaced a hose. Then after one whole week. I get my vehicle back and it over heats again. Ugh how frustrating. So I call and Liz answers and she says to take it to Auto Zone. Wtf!!! My bf told me not to take it back to them because they probably do not know what they are doing. Warning How many times have they recommend you to take your vehicle to some guy downtown for the transmission. ??? When that's not even a issue. So much for being a so called honest business. Awful shop, Took my Honda Accord to them 4 yrs ago and they ruined my engine, it had never been in an accident never had any problems with it or repairs, but oil changes and batteries, that's what I took in for had replaced the battery a yr ago it was dying so took back there since it was still under warranty, they called said my radiator needed replaced for 200 then they call ed back that it wasn't running any more!!! That all 6 cylinders of the engine were stuck!!! I took in for the battery only and they broke my car!!! I had to tow to my mechanic and replace the whole engine!!! Coronado Auto Repair is honest and hard working, they have competitive prices and don't nickel and dime you with fee's. They don't just do a great work at reasonable prices, but they also take care of their customers. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else on the west side. Liz is knowledgeable, professional, and personable, and I have complete confidence in her and her mechanics. I have sent my wife, sister-in-law, and nephew here and they all rave about how good their experience was. Disppointed of late with their service. I wonder if something has changed with them since my last post? I had a repair on my vehicle that was not done exactly right and there was no excuse for the mistake they made. I always check out repairs from any auto mechanic as I don't trust ANY of them. I returned to have them correct the issue, which they gladly did (but offered no explanation or apology for the mistake). I think they are understaffed, too busy, certainly too busy to properly tend to the customers that come in the waiting area (don't go in on a Saturday unless you want a long wait). As I said in my previous post, it's a little better to have an appointment if you can get them to return a phone call. Realistically for El Paso, they are going to be about the norm for auto repair. This auto repair shop is dismal. If you are a woman don't bother going here. You would be the wrong gender. Disabled? Forget it. You won't even be allowed to speak. All I needed was to find out how much it would cost to have windshield wiper fluid put in. No one in that shop would even ask what it was I needed. I was so disgusted with the fact that they knew I was there and ignored me that I finally left. My recent visit to Coronado Auto Repair was a terrific experience in providing focused Customer Care by their Manager Liz but also the honest diagnostic and repair by Technician. I had originally been given an estimate by Firestone Complete Auto Care 7340 N. Mesa that included Oil Pan Gasket,Differential Gasket-Rear, Shocks & Struts- Rear, and Differential Pinion Seal-Rear. The total was $1469.67. The estimate did not include an oil change with 5 quarts of synthetic oil and filter after removing the oil pan gasket. My experience with C.A.R. was this. I told them what Firestone said I needed done. C.A.R. Found No need for Rear Pinion Seal or Differential Gasket Rear just some road grime wiped off by the Tech. Oil Pan Gasket didn't need replaced just a small side Gasket $18.25. Rear shocks & Struts were replaced and I asked for an oil change. My total at C.A.R. $346.07. Terrific Honest Service & Terrific Price. They have a new loyal Customer!!! read more

People working here are soooo nice! I had a flat tire and went in to get it fixed. They weren't pushy to sell me any tires. They recommended to get in touch with my car dealer to see if I still hav the 30 day purchase warranty for tire replacement. They removed the flat tire with the donut for FREE, even tho I did offer them $40 for the help. It's highly recommended!!!! read more
