I recently had an "awesome" experience at the Discount Gun Mart in Santee. Initially, I worked with Chandler who provided insight into the changes I should make to my current weapon to comply with all regulations. After parts arrived, Jared was able to explain the intricacies of CA laws regarding "AR type" rifles. Between the two of them, their knowledge of firearms and CA regulations allowed me to make purchasing decisions that ensured that my rifle met all legal requirements in CA. If you have any questions about legality of specific rifles or types of rifles (black powder vs standard cartridges), I would recommend a stop by Discount Guns on a weekday when they're not busy. Arthur's background and training, including being trained by the legendary Massad Ayoob, really shows in his teaching. The simulator was also top-notch and provided a great way to learn and practice decision-making and defensive concepts in a controlled environment. During the live-fire portion, his team was just as knowledgeable, professional, and helpful. They were patient, attentive, and made sure everyone understood what they were doing. I went to get the required time in to get my permit and ended up learning so much more and had more fun than I expected. The simulator is a great way to put into practice what you are learning and get more time participating in your training rather than sitting and looking at slides. On the range, the entire team was helpful and friendly. They made sure it was a safe environment and that everyone understood what was expected and helped you prepare for the actual qualification part of the training. I would recommend going to any firearms training with "The Gunsmith Guy". I will be scheduling more training myself after some time practicing what I have learned. The cost is a great factor too, one of the lower cost classes I found, but top tier when it comes to the actual training.
