But this type of store is exactly what you want to see when you go to Boone...it's on that hippie dippy crunchy earthy patchouli juju crystals and charms and voodoo tip, and it is so much fun. They've got jewelry and books and charms and handmade things and instruments and tarot cards and art and clothing and I love it all. I was specifically looking for gifts to bring back home for my little girls and found the perfect things. There is a section by the cash register that had dozens of handmade necklaces, all with various crystals and coins from around the world. I found two of the sparkliest, Dark Crystalliest ones and decided to go with those. The fun part was, there was a sign next to these necklaces that told a little story about the family that makes them, and explains that they do not price anything, and will accept anything that the buyer decides is fair. That is super cool, and a great way to get karma flowing heavy. I make jewelry regularly, so I know the cost of supplies, and can fairly accurately gauge the amount of time put into pieces. I decided $20.00 was fair for what I chose. I also purchased a bar of lemongrass soap, handmade from a Boone local. This is some of the strongest smelling lemongrass soap I've ever smelled, and I've already showered with it and am kicking myself for not getting more. Once I made the purchases, the lady at the checkout seemed thrilled, rang me up, and before I left said, "Wait! You and your girls need the angels...here..." as she poured a handful of silver, glittering angel confetti into my hand. What a lovely human.

Perfect bookstore/coffee shop with great drinks, selection of books, and plenty of cozy reading…read moreareas! I have been here a couple times now and both times have been a treat. I usually stop here either on my way to Asheville, it breaks up the ride nicely, or before climbing at Bigfoot Climbing gym. I have gotten both the Poe and the Hemingway lattes and they are delicious! I've also had some of the dessert pastries from Ugly Duckling - the mocha espresso cookie and the cheddar bacon scone. These treats are tasty and perfect snacking size. The interior of this store is very cozy and there are endless reading nooks throughout the space. The first time I enjoyed my coffee and snack outside but this past weekend, I sat upstairs. Both times have been very enjoyable - one minor note, they closed early on Sunday, at noon instead of 3pm, to prepare holiday decorations. Unfortunately, I arrived at 11:30am so I didn't get to stay and read as long as I originally planned. Wish they would have posted on their social media (I looked them up on Instagram before visiting again)! Other than that little hiccup, this is a must-visit in Morganton!

I love bookstores. And I love this one…read more The coffee shop is open again and the staff are always super helpful. The only thing I have against BAM is that it's corporate. But, to offset my personal grievance, they buy back books, sell used books, and even if something is out of stock, they can order it for me and either send it to my address or hold it for pickup. That's pretty good. They can check, with accuracy, what's in stock. There was one weird time when a clerk couldn't find a common reference book (APA manual), but that's not something everyone uses or knows about, right? They could use more comfortable seating around the store, but it still FEELS like a bookstore and I dig that. Kitschy nerd shirts and clothing, Fandom figures and trappings, and a huge periodical section for enthusiasts of all stripes.

What rocket scientist thought it was a good idea to remove all of the comfortable seating areas…read morefrom the store? It used to be that one could go in there and get four or five books, order an iced coffee drink, sit in a lovely chair, and figure out which book or two one would purchase. Now, those seating areas are gone. I walked out without buying anything. If this is some sort of new corporate initiative, I will just stay home, curl up on my really comfortable couch, and get books on my Kindle. Stupid idea. Especially for a struggling industry.
