Restaurant side waited a long time to get order taken but I only seen one waiter. Food came in a reasonable time after ordered. This review for restaurant side only. Good food at extremely affordable prices. I had 2 slices of very thick, tender, and decently flavorful french toast for $5. Nothing over $10 on the menu. Coffee was good, straight ahead cuppa Joe. Caffeine dressed down in its "out in the woods diner" version. Not fancy, not expensive. Premises were clean & quiet for weekday breakfast conversation. Waitress was friendly and efficient, conscientiously keeping the coffee mugs topped up. They get bonus points for adverting hunting rifle optics on the cash register counter, which also proffered several calibers of ammo in case you needed some on your way out the door. Today was an absolute nightmare, from a customer's point of view. They were overwhelmed with patrons, and one of their servers (Karen) fell yesterday and broke her leg. So they were exceedingly short staffed. The one and only server, Cassie, was an absolute GEM!!! She had four tables of groups. Our group was 19!! The table behind us was either eight or 12. In the main dining room, the usual Tuesday morning men's breakfast group was there, consisting of eight men. PLUS another table of 12 - 15. IN ADDITION - every single table in the place had as few as one and as many as four patrons. But Cassie was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! She worked her tail off! As did the cook(s) and dish washer. Our food was delicious. Everyone was pleased with the portion size, flavor, temperature and freshness. I wish that the manager/owner had paid better attention to the chaos going on in his restaurant. Taking quicker action to provide Cassie an additional hand or two sooner would have pleased everyone concerned. THAT girl deserves a raise!! She never complained and had a genuine, warm smile for each of her guests. Brava to her for maintaining grace under those circumstances!! read more

I grew up on this food, so a little biased, but I have yet to find a place that does French Toast better than the Corner Store. All of their buns and breads are homemade which makes a huge difference. Their breakfast is the best in the area. Conveniently off Highway 371, stop in for a quick bite. Stopped in for breakfast. Cafe was clean and basic .Super busy due to Memorial weekend. We expected a delay in service but we didn't expect the waitress - short dark hair name may have been Marcy - to stomp around grumbling and calling people rude. She was barking every minute we were there and she wasn't even our waitress. Very unhappy person. Kitchen did great keeping up and the food was good but there was too much chaos caused by "Marcy" to enjoy our meal. She needs to hush up. Keep her thoughts to herself. read more

Had the Swiss Mushroom Burger Basket and the four others in our party had the California Burger Basket. We all loved the food! The fresh homemade burger buns were soft, fluffy and fantastic! Simply put, when we have family come up to visit us - this is where we take them for breakfast. The food is top end, in particular the ham is slow roasted, juicy, thick cut perfection. If you want to give me a million dollars but don't know where to find me at 8:30 AM - I'm probably here eating the best breakfast for 50 miles. The only place in MN that equals this is "Our Kitchen" in South Minneapolis, and for those that know Our Kitchen know that finding an equal to it is practically impossible. I love coming here for a meal when we're too lazy to cook at our cabin in Backus. The service is a bit slow, as others mentioned, but it's worth it. Everything is reasonably priced and the portions are ridiculously large - you can easily split with someone if needed. The toast that comes with each meal is sooo good. Fantastic breakfast food, but if you are in a hurry, you will be late. The servers are excellent, but the staff cannot keep up with the consistently packed restaurant. They will keep you good with coffee and water until your food arrives and then you will enjoy. I recommend the chili omelette and they have fresh baked bread that is delicious. read more
