Basically you're getting fresh corn conveniently served in a bowl, that you can eat with a spoon. It's prepared with your choice of the following toppings: fresh squeezed lime, mayonnaise, butter, chili powder & cotija cheese (similar to feta). I always like mine with everything but the lime. At first I was skeptical. 724 reviews averaging 4 1/2 stars? For corn? So I took it upon myself to investigate this so called "Corn Man". So after checking him out I am happy to say that the 725th review is gonna be 5 stars from me. Here's how it went. Came on a sunday evening (3/25/18) at about 10:10. Plenty of parking available. Already there is a line of about 15 people waiting. Some people brought blankets and chairs to sit on. As I stood there waiting in 50 degree temps (dont worrry, I had a light sweater on and being from Seattle and now living in Vegas, 50 degrees is nothing) I started skimming around on some of the reviews. The only thing I noticed that was negative were that the corn man's son is rude and that they dont always show up on time. Nothing bad about the elotes or esquites (bowls). So the guy shows up at 10:40. The line has ballooned to about 50 people. Im so glad I showed up early. We got 2 of the esquites ($2 each), and 4 elotes ($2 each). Damn. Dude does not skimp on the mayo, butter, and cojita cheese. That goes for both items. If you dont like your stuff too spicy, tell him not to put too much cayenne powder. Also lime is an option so if you dont request it he will not put it on. The taste? OMG. Seriously some of the best corn I have ever had and I have had some good ones. The esquites were really spicy but the corn was so good that I couldnt stop eating it, tears and all. Make sure you mix it up first before eating because the toppings are all on top. The elotes were exactly the same thing except you are eating it right off the cob and no spoon needed. For those with braces I recommend getting the bowl. So to recap, show up early, its cash only (the smaller the bills the better), dress appropriately for the weather, bring portable chairs and/or blankets, and definitely go to the bathroom somewhere before coming out here for there are none. Hours are 10:30 pm to 2 am everyday. Obviously the later you show up, the longer the line will probably be and the more chances that the corn will run out. I think that on the major holidays he takes off and no, there is no actual phone number to call and verify even though he sets up next to an actual pay phone (que Maroon 5 song here). In closing, I didnt have any negative interactions with the corn man's son and him showing up at 10:40 wasnt too bad because I was already in line. Taste wise, I prefer the corn on the Cobb because the corn is softer and tastier. However eating it is a hot mess. The bowl is a cleaner way of eating it but in my opinion not as good. Parking lot next to it. Cash only. They also sell canned soda as well. I only waited 15mins. Some people have waited way more than that and I feel lucky. Try this place out! Super duper yummy. I have been searching for Corn Man for some time now. It so happened that one of my girls went the night before and wanted to go again tonight, and I was like I am so there! You see, I have this obsession with elote since I haven't had in a while and don't even know where to go... So I started hearing stories about this amazing Corn Man, and I just had to try this perfect concoction. The cousin came along and we picked up our guide to Corn Man. I was so excited when we approached Workman that I parked in the first street parking I saw and just come to find out that he is just outside an empty (almost) parking lot! Duh. The long was already long at 9:38 but we did not wait long for our turn. Those 10 minutes could have been torture but we were so excited! Yes, two of us are newbies. He usually opens at 11PM, but my husband and I decided to try to line up at 10PM like some reviews say. We actually were a little late and got there at 10:30PM or so and the line was wrapped around the parking lot (like usual). It was a Friday after July 4th, but he didn't show up until 11:20PM or so. We got our corn at 12:30PM so we actually waited 2 hours! Not sure if anything is worth waiting that long unless you're a big fanatic but it was my first time. The corn was very delicious but I wish it was kept hotter somehow. He does store it, but maybe that's just my preference in terms of temperature for my food. I ordered a bowl and my husband had the cob and they do taste different. It only took him about 2-3 minutes to make it all. I do prefer the cob better but the bowl is cleaner to eat, of course. He puts a lot of cheese which I think gives it a lot of flavor. I would go again if it wasn't for the line and if there weren't people ordering multiple orders. The Elote in a cup isn't anything particularly special. It is fresh boiled corn, generic mayo, concentrate lemon juice, squirt bottle butter, cheese powder, and chili powder. There was no shortage of mayo and cheese making it a very thick and creamy consistency. But for my personal taste, it was a bit too heavy, but you can definitely ask to go easier on certain ingredients since everything is mixed to order. The experience itself is unique. Me: "No." Asshole Son: "Are you really going to be that much of a dick and not pay for him?" Who in the hell is he to call me a dick for one and who is he to make such a rude comment? I proceeded to explain to him that my friend would be paying for his own things and ignored the idiot. Well, my friend then walks over and also asks for his champurrado and places his bowl down to pay when the ASSHOLE SON SAYS, "man, can you back the fuck up?!" Because he was close to him? So damn rude!!!! Alright. So I drove 5 hours from San Jose to try this corn. Well..to visit a friend, and she had been raving about this corn for some time. So Since we were in town visiting my fiancé and I decided to give it a go. Now San Jose has some good elote with a heavily Hispanic population. So coming in I wasn't no newbie to the elote game. We got to the lot at around 10:50pm and waited 2 hours. Never in my life had I waited for so long for elote. And we had like 30-40 people ahead of us. I was flabbergasted at the amount of people that show up for this elote. When the man arrived. Everyone cheered and clapped as if a celebrity had arrived. We were cracken joke about the lengths people go through for some elote when I'm San Jose you can get it from the street vendor. Well, we get to the elote man and I told him how we drove all these miles for some elote. He was very friendly and funny. BUT THE CORN. HEAVEN. It was so good because he packs on the Mayo and cheese so that each bite you take is carefully coated with the right amount of Mayo to cheese ratio. Needless to say I was impressed. Being tourists, my fiancé and I had no idea what to expect for Corn Man. After seeing all of the raving Yelp reviews, we decided to check it out last Thursday night. We arrived at the parking lot at 10:15pm. We saw about 15 people waiting already so we just joined the line. Won't lie and say we weren't a little uneasy - it was dark, there was no signage, and we didn't really know where we were. As it got later, we noticed more and more people joining the line. Many people had friends wait in line first, so we were pretty annoyed to see 10-15 more people jump the line. Corn Man (and his son) arrived at 10:45pm. At first, we thought we'd get to eat soon, but quickly realized that 1) more and more people were meeting friends and jumping the line, 2) friends of the corn man and his son were able to skip the line completely and be served first, and 3) many people ordered 10+ items.
