We had high hopes for Coriandre, as it was recommended by foodie colleagues who live in the area. We reserved for dinner and it's a good thing we did: just a half hour after we arrived, the restaurant filled up to capacity!
I have to preface this by admitting that I shoot myself in the foot when I go out for Indian food, because I always start with a lassi and am halfway full by the time the main course arrives. This time was no exception. I would have skipped dessert and just stuck with the lassi, but the reasonable dinner menu included dessert (in addition to an appetizer, naan, and main dish).
The mango lassi arrived quickly and after that, the plates came in rapid succession. First a starter with the requisite condiments (chutney, mint sauce, spicy plum sauce), then the naan, main course and dessert. I had the tuna and potato fritters for my starter, which was tasty. My partner ordered the samosas which, sadly, lacked flavor and may well have been frozen and reheated. He then had the chicken tikka masala (no complaints there, though not the most authentic I've tasted), and I had the palak paneer, half of which I had to box up for take away (it was *excellent* warmed up the next day).
I could have done without the rice pudding dessert. True, I was too full from the lassi and all the rest but, despite that, the pudding wasn't incredible. The rice texture wasn't quite right. My partner had the pistachio ice cream which was refreshing and firm, rolled and cut into 1cm thick circles on a small plate. We finished his dessert together.
The meal took place in a light, hipster-chic dining room, and I overhead diners talking about how kitsch it had been before. Looking closely, you can see fuchsia stripes on the door where some of the mint green paint has stripped away. read more
